1 Foi em Janeiro do nono ano do reinado de Zedequias, rei de Judá, que o rei Nabucodonozor e todo o seu exército veio de novo contra Jerusalém e a sitiou.¸
2 Dois anos mais tarde, no dia 18 de Julho , conseguiram fazer uma brecha na muralha e a cidade caiu em poder deles;
3 todos os chefes militares babilónicos penetraram nela e concentraram-se triunfalmente na porta do Meio. Nergal-Sarezer estava lá no meio deles, assim como também Sangar-Nebo, Sarsequim, mais o chefe da casa militar do rei, assim como muitos outros.
4 Quando o rei Zedequias e os seus militares se deram conta de que a cidade estava perdida, fugiram durante a noite, pela porta que está entre as duas muralhas, nas traseiras dos jardins do palácio, e foram-se através dos campos em direcção ao vale do Jordão.
5 Mas os babilónios perseguiram o rei e apanharam-no nas planícies de Jericó, trazendo-o à presença de Nabucodonozor, rei de Babilónia, que se encontrava em Ribla, na terra de Hamate, onde pronunciou a sentença sobre ele
6 O rei de Babilónia obrigou Zedequias a presenciar a matança dos seus próprios filhos, assim como de todos os nobres de Judá. Depois arrancou-lhe os olhos e mandou-o, amarrado com cadeias, para Babilónia.
8 Entretanto a tropa incendiava Jerusalém, incluindo o palácio, e deitava abaixo as muralhas da cidade.
9 Depois Nebuzaradão, o comandante da guarda imperial, mandou para Babilónia o resto da população que ficara, mais aqueles que se tinham passado para eles.
10 Mas na terra de Judá deixou ainda alguma gente do povo, dos mais pobres, dando-lhes campos e vinhas.
11 Ao mesmo tempo o rei Nabucodonozor tinha dado ordens a Nebuzaradão para ir buscar Jeremias.
12 Vê que não lhe aconteça nenhum mal, disse. Trata bem dele e fornece-lhe tudo o que pretender.e
13 E assim Nebuzaradão, o comandante da guarda, Nebuchazbã, chefe dos eunucos, Nergal-Sarezer, conselheiro do rei, e todos os outros oficiais começaram a dar passos para cumprir a ordem do rei. Enviaram pois soldados que tirassem Jeremias da prisão, e puseram-no sob os cuidados de Gedalias (filho de Aicão e neto de Safã). Jeremias ficou ali a viver entre o povo deixado na terra.
15 O Senhor tinha dado esta mensagem a Jeremias, antes dos babilónios terem chegado, e quando ainda estava na prisão:
16 Manda este aviso a Ebede-Meleque, o etíope: O Senhor dos exércitos celestiais, o Deus de Israel, diz assim: Hei-de fazer com esta cidade tudo quanto tenho dito sobre ela; destruí-la-ei perante os vossos olhos, mas a ti, livrar-te-ei. Não serás morto por aqueles que vocês tanto temem. Como recompensa por teres confiado em mim, pouparei a tua vida e estarás em segurança.
1 In the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, came Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon and all his force against Jerusalem, and they besieged it.
2 In the eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month on the ninth of the month, was the city broken into.
3 Then came in all the princes of the king of Babylon, and sat in the middle gate,Nergal-sharezer, Samgar-nebo, Sarsechim, chief eunuch Nergal-sharezer, chief soothsayer, and all the residue of the princes of the king of Babylon.
4 And it came to pass as soon as Zedekiah king of Judah and all the men of war saw them, that they fled, and went forth by night out of the city, by way of the kings garden, through the gate between the two walls,and he went forth by way of the waste plain.
5 But the force of the Chaldeans pursued them, and overtook Zedekiah in the waste plains of Jericho, and when they had taken him, they brought him up unto Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, to Riblah, in the land of Hamath,and pronounced upon him sentences of judgment.
6 And the king of Babylon slew the sons of Zedekiah, in Riblah before his eyes,and all the nobles of Judah, did the king of Babylon slay;
7 and the eyes of Zedekiah, did he put out, and bound him with fetters of bronze to bring him into Babylon.
8 And the house of the king, and the houses of the people, did the Chaldeans burn with fire, and the walls of Jerusalem, brake they down;
9 and the remnant of the people who were left in the city, and the disheartened who fell away unto him, and the remnant of the people who were left, did Nebuzaradan chief of the royal executioners, take captive to Babylon.
10 But of the poor people, who had, nothing, did Nebuzaradan chief of the royal executioners, leave remaining in the land of Judah, and gave them vineyards and ploughed fields on the same day.
11 Then Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon gave command, concerning Jeremiah,through Nebuzaradan chief of the royal executioners saying:
12 Take him and, thine eyes, set thou upon him, and do not unto him any harmful thing,but just as he shall speak unto thee, so, shalt thou do with him.
13 So Nebuzaradan chief of the royal executioners, sent, also Nebushazban, chief of the eunuchs, and Nergal-sharezer chief of the magi, and all the chiefs of the king of Babylon;
14 yea they sent and fetched Jeremiah out of the guard-court, and delivered him unto Gedaliah son of Ahikam son of Shaphan, to bring him forth into a home, so he dwelt in the midst of the people.
15 Now unto Jeremiah, had come the word of Yahweh, while he was yet shut up in the guard-court, saying:
16 Go and speak to Ebed-melech the Ethiopian, saying,Thus saith Yahweh of hosts God of Israel, Behold me! bringing about my words against this city, for, calamityand not for blessing,and they shall come to pass before thee, in that day.
17 But I will deliver thee in that day, Declareth Yahweh,and thou shalt not be given up into the hand of the men from the face of whom, thou, mightest shrink with fear.
18 For I wilt, surely, deliver, thee, and by the sword, shalt thou not fall,but thou shalt have thine own life as a spoil, Because thou hast trusted in me, Declareth Yahweh.
