De är förfärade,

de viker tillbaka,

deras hjältar blir slagna och flyr

utan att vända sig om.

Det är skräck från alla håll,

säger Herren.

och täcka landet,

jag ska förstöra städerna

Dra ut, ni hjältar,

rustade med sköldar,

Men förgäves har du skaffat

läkemedel i mängd.

Du kan inte bli botad.

12 Hednafolken har hört om din skam,

och dina sorgerop

för den ene hjälten

snavar på den andre

och de båda faller tillsammans.

och ropa ut det i Migdol,

"Träd fram och gör dig beredd,

för svärdet frossar

runt omkring dig."

De kunde inte hålla stånd,

för Herren stötte bort dem.

16 *Jer 50:16. Han fick många att vackla,

och de föll, den ene över den andre,

och ropade:

"Upp, låt oss vända tillbaka

till vårt folk

och till landet där vi föddes,

undan det härjande svärdet!"

17 Man ropar där:

"Farao, Egyptens kung,

är bara ett buller!

Han har försummat sin tid."

Som Tabor bland bergen,

som ringlar i väg,

för de drar fram med vapenmakt

och kommer över henne

med yxor,

som för att hugga ved.

23 De fäller hennes skog, säger Herren,

för den är ogenomtränglig.

De är fler än gräshoppor,

de kan inte räknas.

hon utlämnas åt folket från norr.
