1 Όταν άρχισαν οι άνθρωποι να γίνονται πολλοί πάνω στη γη και απέκτησαν κόρες, 2 είδαν οι γιοι του Θεού τις κόρες των ανθρώπων ότι ήταν όμορφες, και πήραν για γυναίκες τους εκείνες που τους άρεσαν. 3 Τότε είπε ο Κύριος: «Δε θα παραμείνει το ζωοποιό Πνεύμα μου στους ανθρώπους για πάντα, γιατί είναι σαρκικοί· η ζωή τους θα διαρκεί μόνον εκατόν είκοσι χρόνια». 4 Εκείνο τον καιρό και αργότερα, ζούσαν στη γη οι γίγαντες, απόγονοι των γιων του Θεού από την ένωσή τους με τις κόρες των ανθρώπων. Αυτοί οι γίγαντες έζησαν την πανάρχαια εποχή και ήταν άντρες ονομαστοί. 5 Όταν ο Κύριος είδε πόσο είχε αυξηθεί η κακία των ανθρώπων στη γη και ότι όλες τους οι σκέψεις ήταν πάντα μόνο πονηρές, 6 μετάνιωσε που είχε δημιουργήσει τον άνθρωπο στη γη και λυπήθηκε κατάκαρδα. 7 Τότε είπε: «Θα εξαφανίσω από την επιφάνεια της γης τους ανθρώπους που δημιούργησα. Ακόμη θα εξαφανίσω όλα τα κτήνη, τα ερπετά και τα πτηνά του ουρανού. Μετάνιωσα που τα δημιούργησα». 8 Ο Νώε όμως ευνοήθηκε από τον Κύριο.

9 Αυτές είναι οι διηγήσεις για το Νώε:

Ο Νώε ήταν άνθρωπος δίκαιος και τέλειος ανάμεσα στους συγχρόνους του, ζούσε θεάρεστα, 10 και απέκτησε τρεις γιους: το Σημ, το Χαμ και τον Ιάφεθ. 11 Ο υπόλοιπος κόσμος, όμως, ζούσε μέσα στη διαφθορά κι οι άνθρωποι είχαν γεμίσει τη γη με τις αδικίες τους.

12 Ο Θεός, όταν είδε τη γη πως είχε διαφθαρεί, γιατί όλοι είχαν πάρει στραβό δρόμο, 13 είπε στο Νώε: «Για μένα έφτασε το τέλος των ανθρώπων, γιατί γέμισε η γη από τις αδικίες τους. Θα τους εξαφανίσω, λοιπόν, μαζί με τη γη. 14 Εσύ όμως κάνε μια κιβωτό από ξύλα ρητινοφόρου δέντρου, χώρισέ την σε δωμάτια και άλειψέ την από μέσα και απ’ έξω με πίσσα. 15 Να πώς θα την κατασκευάσεις: Το μήκος της θα είναι τριακόσιοι πήχεις, το πλάτος της πενήντα πήχεις και το ύψος της τριάντα. 16 Θα της βάλεις στέγη, αφήνοντας ανάμεσα σ’ αυτήν και στην κουπαστή απόσταση ενός πήχεως, και την πόρτα της θα την τοποθετήσεις στο πλευρό της. Θα κατασκευάσεις ένα χαμηλότερο όροφο, ένα δεύτερο και έναν τρίτο. 17 Κι εγώ θα φέρω κατακλυσμό νερών για να καταστρέψω κάθε σάρκινο ον, που έχει πνοή ζωής. Καθετί που υπάρχει πάνω στη γη θα πεθάνει. 18 Μ’ εσένα όμως θα συνάψω τη διαθήκη μου· θα μπεις στην κιβωτό εσύ και μαζί σου οι γιοι σου, η γυναίκα σου και οι γυναίκες των γιων σου. 19 Επίσης μαζί σου στην κιβωτό θα μπουν από ένα ζευγάρι απ’ όλα τα ζώα, όλα τα όντα, για να επιζήσουν μαζί σου –ένα αρσενικό κι ένα θηλυκό. 20 Ένα ζευγάρι απ’ όλα τα είδη των πτηνών, των κτηνών και των ερπετών της γης θα έρθουν σ’ εσένα στην κιβωτό, για να επιζήσουν. 21 Πάρε και κάθε είδους τροφή και αποθήκευσέ τες μαζί σου, για να τρώτε εσύ κι εκείνα». 22 Ο Νώε έκανε ακριβώς όλα όσα τον διέταξε ο Θεός.

1 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, 2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. 3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.

4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.*6.5 every…: or, the whole imagination: the Hebrew word signifieth not only the imagination, but also the purposes and desires*6.5 continually: Heb. every day

6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. 7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.*6.7 both…: Heb. from man unto beast

8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.

9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.*6.9 perfect: or, upright 10 And Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. 12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.

13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.*6.13 with the earth: or, from the earth

14 Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch.*6.14 rooms: Heb. nests 15 And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits. 16 A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it. 17 And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die. 18 But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons’ wives with thee. 19 And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female. 20 Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive. 21 And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee; and it shall be for food for thee, and for them. 22 Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.
