1 Ο Θεός όμως δεν είχε ξεχάσει το Νώε και τα θηρία και τα ζώα που ήταν μαζί του στην κιβωτό· έστειλε λοιπόν έναν άνεμο στη γη και τα νερά άρχισαν να υποχωρούν. 2 Οι πηγές της αβύσσου και οι καταρράχτες του ουρανού έκλεισαν και σταμάτησε η βροχή. 3 Τα νερά διαρκώς αποτραβιούνταν από τη γη, και ύστερα από εκατόν πενήντα μέρες είχαν κατέβει αρκετά. 4 Τον έβδομο μήνα, τη δέκατη μέρα, η κιβωτός κάθισε πάνω στην οροσειρά του Αραράτ. 5 Τα νερά διαρκώς υποχωρούσαν ως το δέκατο μήνα. Και την πρώτη μέρα του δέκατου μήνα φάνηκαν οι κορυφές των βουνών.

6 Ύστερα από σαράντα μέρες, ο Νώε άνοιξε το παράθυρο της κιβωτού του, 7 κι άφησε ελεύθερο τον κόρακα. Αυτός πήγαινε κι ερχόταν, ώσπου στέγνωσαν τα νερά πάνω στη γη. 8 Στο μεταξύ ο Νώε άφησε ελεύθερο και το περιστέρι, για να δει αν τα νερά είχαν υποχωρήσει. 9 Αλλά το περιστέρι δε βρήκε μέρος να πατήσει το πόδι του, και γύρισε πίσω στην κιβωτό, γιατί υπήρχαν ακόμα νερά στην επιφάνεια της γης. Ο Νώε άπλωσε το χέρι του, έπιασε το περιστέρι και το έφερε μέσα στην κιβωτό.

10 Περίμενε άλλες εφτά μέρες κι έστειλε πάλι το περιστέρι από την κιβωτό. 11 Εκείνο γύρισε πίσω το βράδυ, και στο ράμφος του είχε ένα χλωρό φύλλο ελιάς. Έτσι ο Νώε κατάλαβε ότι η στάθμη του νερού είχε πια κατέβει αρκετά. 12 Περίμενε ακόμη άλλες εφτά μέρες και ξανάστειλε το περιστέρι, που όμως δε γύρισε πια πίσω.

13 Το εξακοσιοστό πρώτο έτος της ζωής του Νώε, την πρώτη μέρα του πρώτου μήνα τα νερά είχαν αποτραβηχτεί για καλά από τη γη. Ο Νώε σήκωσε τη σκεπή της κιβωτού, κοίταξε, και είδε την επιφάνεια της γης ότι ήταν στεγνή. 14 Την εικοστή έβδομη μέρα του δεύτερου μήνα η γη είχε τελείως στεγνώσει.

15 Τότε ο Θεός είπε στο Νώε: 16 «Βγες από την κιβωτό εσύ, και μαζί σου η γυναίκα σου, οι γιοι σου και οι γυναίκες τους. 17 Όλα τα ζώα, τα πτηνά, και τα ερπετά που σέρνονται στο χώμα, ας βγουν κι αυτά μαζί σου για ν’ αρχίσουν να πολλαπλασιάζονται και να εξαπλωθούν πάνω στη γη». 18 Βγήκε λοιπόν από την κιβωτό ο Νώε μαζί με τους γιους του, τη γυναίκα του και τις γυναίκες των γιων του. 19 Επίσης βγήκαν και όλα τα θηρία, τα κτήνη, τα πτηνά και τα ερπετά της γης κατά τα είδη τους.

20 Τότε ο Νώε έχτισε ένα θυσιαστήριο για τον Κύριο και πήρε απ’ όλα τα καθαρά κτήνη και τα καθαρά πτηνά και τα πρόσφερε θυσία πάνω στο θυσιαστήριο. 21 Ο Κύριος δέχτηκε με ευχαρίστηση τη θυσία*Ο Κύριος... θυσία. Κατά λ.: «Ο Κύριος οσφράνθηκε την ευχάριστη οσμή κι ευχαριστήθηκε». και σκέφτηκε: «Δε θα καταραστώ πια τη γη εξαιτίας του ανθρώπου, γιατί η σκέψη του είναι πονηρή από τη νεότητά του. Δε θα καταστρέψω πια καμιά ζωή, όπως έκανα τώρα. 22 Στο εξής, όσο θα υπάρχει η γη, δε θα πάψουν να υπάρχουν σπορά και θερισμός, κρύο και ζέστη, καλοκαίρι και χειμώνας, ημέρα και νύχτα».

1 And God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the cattle that was with him in the ark: and God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters asswaged; 2 The fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained; 3 And the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated.*8.3 continually: Heb. in going and returning

4 And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat. 5 And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month: in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, were the tops of the mountains seen.*8.5 decreased…: Heb. were in going and decreasing

6 And it came to pass at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made: 7 And he sent forth a raven, which went forth to and fro, until the waters were dried up from off the earth.*8.7 to…: Heb. in going forth and returning 8 Also he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters were abated from off the face of the ground; 9 But the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him into the ark, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth: then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in unto him into the ark.*8.9 pulled…: Heb. caused her to come 10 And he stayed yet other seven days; and again he sent forth the dove out of the ark; 11 And the dove came in to him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth was an olive leaf pluckt off: so Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth. 12 And he stayed yet other seven days; and sent forth the dove; which returned not again unto him any more.

13 And it came to pass in the six hundredth and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from off the earth: and Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and, behold, the face of the ground was dry. 14 And in the second month, on the seven and twentieth day of the month, was the earth dried.

15 And God spake unto Noah, saying, 16 Go forth of the ark, thou, and thy wife, and thy sons, and thy sons’ wives with thee. 17 Bring forth with thee every living thing that is with thee, of all flesh, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth; that they may breed abundantly in the earth, and be fruitful, and multiply upon the earth. 18 And Noah went forth, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him: 19 Every beast, every creeping thing, and every fowl, and whatsoever creepeth upon the earth, after their kinds, went forth out of the ark.*8.19 kinds: Heb. families
