(46:1–50:26)

1 Ο Ισραήλ έφυγε παίρνοντας μαζί του όλα του τα υπάρχοντα. Όταν έφτασε στη Βέερ-Σεβά, πρόσφερε θυσία στο Θεό του πατέρα του, του Ισαάκ. 2 Κι ο Θεός τού είπε τη νύχτα στ’ όνειρό του: «Ιακώβ, Ιακώβ». Εκείνος απάντησε: «Ορίστε». 3 Και του είπε: «Εγώ είμαι ο Θεός, ο Θεός του πατέρα σου. Μη φοβηθείς να κατεβείς στην Αίγυπτο, γιατί εκεί θα σε κάνω μεγάλο έθνος. 4 Εγώ ο ίδιος θα κατεβώ μαζί σου στην Αίγυπτο κι εγώ ο ίδιος θα σε φέρω πάλι πίσω. Και ο Ιωσήφ θα σου κλείσει τα μάτια».

5 Τα παιδιά λοιπόν του Ισραήλ ανέβασαν τον πατέρα τους, μαζί με τα παιδιά τους και τις γυναίκες τους πάνω στ’ αμάξια που είχε στείλει ο Φαραώ για να τους μεταφέρουν. Έτσι έφυγε ο Ιακώβ από τη Βέερ-Σεβά. 6 Πήραν ακόμη τα κοπάδια τους και όλη τους την περιουσία, που είχαν αποκτήσει στη Χαναάν, και ήρθαν στην Αίγυπτο, ο Ιακώβ μαζί με τους απογόνους του. 7 Έφερε μαζί του στην Αίγυπτο τα παιδιά του και τα εγγόνια του, τις θυγατέρες του και τις θυγατέρες των παιδιών του –όλους τους απογόνους του.

8 Τα ονόματα των γιων του Ισραήλ που ήρθαν στην Αίγυπτο, είναι: Ρουβήν, ο πρωτότοκος, 9 και οι γιοι του: Χανώχ, Φαλλού, Χεσρών και Χαρμί. 10 Ο Συμεών και οι γιοι του: Ιεμουήλ, Ιαμείν, Οάδ, Ιαχείν, Σωχάρ και Σαούλ, ο γιος της Χαναναίας. 11 Ο Λευί και οι γιοι του: Γηρσών, Καάθ και Μεραρί. 12 Ο Ιούδας και οι γιοι του: Ηρ, Αυνάν, Σηλά, Φαρές και Ζάραχ· αλλά ο Ηρ και ο Αυνάν πέθαναν στη Χαναάν. Γιοι του Φαρές ήταν ο Χεσρών και ο Χαμούλ. 13 Ο Ισσάχαρ και οι γιοι του: Τωλά, Φουβά, Ιώβ και Σιμρών. 14 Ο Ζαβουλών και οι γιοι του: Σερέδ, Αιλών και Ιαχσεήλ. 15 Αυτοί ήταν οι γιοι που γέννησε η Λεία στον Ιακώβ, στη Μεσοποταμία, καθώς και τη Δείνα την κόρη του. Οι γιοι και οι κόρες του ήταν συνολικά τριάντα τρία άτομα.

16 Ο Γαδ και οι γιοι του: Σιφών, Αγγί, Σουνί, Εσβών, Ηρί, Αροδί και η Αριηλί. 17 Ο Ασήρ και οι γιοι του: Ιεμνά, Ισβά, Ισβί, Βεριά, και η αδερφή τους Σεράχ. Γιοι του Βερά ήταν ο Χέβερ και ο Μαλχιήλ. 18 Αυτοί ήταν οι γιοι που γέννησε στον Ιακώβ η Ζελφά, που την είχε δώσει ο Λάβαν δούλη στη θυγατέρα του τη Λεία –συνολικά δεκάξι άτομα.

19 Οι γιοι της Ραχήλ, γυναίκας του Ιακώβ, ήταν ο Ιωσήφ και ο Βενιαμίν. 20 Ο Ιωσήφ στην Αίγυπτο απέκτησε το Μανασσή και τον Εφραΐμ από την Ασενάθ, την κόρη του Ποτιφερά, ιερέα της Ηλιούπολης. 21 Ο Βενιαμίν και οι γιοι του: Βελά, Βεχέρ, Ασβήλ, Γηρά, Νααμάν, Ηχί, Ρως, Μουπίμ, Χουπίμ και Αρέδ. 22 Αυτοί ήταν οι γιοι που γέννησε η Ραχήλ στον Ιακώβ, όλοι μαζί δεκατέσσερα άτομα. 23 Ο Δαν και ο γιος του ο Χουσίμ. 24 Ο Νεφθαλί και οι γιοι του: Ιαχσεήλ, Γουνί, Ιέσερ και Σιλλήμ. 25 Αυτοί ήταν οι γιοι που γέννησε στον Ιακώβ η Βαλλά, που ο Λάβαν την είχε δώσει δούλη στην κόρη του τη Ραχήλ, συνολικά εφτά άτομα.

26 Όλοι όσοι ήρθαν μαζί με τον Ιακώβ στην Αίγυπτο και προέρχονταν απ’ αυτόν, εκτός απ’ τις γυναίκες των γιων του, ήταν εξήντα έξι άτομα. 27 Οι γιοι του Ιωσήφ που του γεννήθηκαν στην Αίγυπτο ήταν δύο. Όλοι όσοι ανήκαν στην οικογένεια του Ιακώβ και ήρθαν στην Αίγυπτο ήταν εβδομήντα άτομα.

28 Ο Ιακώβ έστειλε τον Ιούδα να προπορευτεί προς τον Ιωσήφ, ώστε να είναι στη Γεσέν πριν απ’ αυτόν. 29 Σαν έφτασαν στην περιοχή της Γεσέν, ο Ιωσήφ έζεψε το αμάξι του κι ανέβηκε να συναντήσει τον πατέρα του τον Ισραήλ εκεί. Μόλις τον είδε, έπεσε στο λαιμό του και έκλαιγε συνέχεια στην αγκαλιά του. 30 «Ας πεθάνω τώρα», είπε ο Ισραήλ, «αφού σε είδα και ακόμα ζεις». 31 Ύστερα ο Ιωσήφ είπε στους αδερφούς του και στην οικογένεια του πατέρα του: «Ανεβαίνω να ειδοποιήσω το Φαραώ ότι τ’ αδέρφια μου και η οικογένεια του πατέρα μου που ήταν στη Χαναάν, ήρθαν κοντά μου. 32 Θα πω ότι είστε κτηνοτρόφοι, βοσκοί προβάτων και ότι φέρατε τα πρόβατά σας και τα βόδια σας και όλα όσα έχετε. 33 Έτσι, αν ο Φαραώ σάς καλέσει και σας ρωτήσει ποιο είναι το επάγγελμά σας, 34 θα του απαντήσετε: "οι δούλοι σου είμαστε κτηνοτρόφοι από την παιδική μας ηλικία μέχρι σήμερα, κι εμείς και οι πρόγονοί μας". Μ’ αυτό τον τρόπο θα κατοικήσετε στην περιοχή της Γεσέν. Γιατί όλοι οι βοσκοί προβάτων είναι βδελυροί για τους Αιγύπτιους».

1 And Israel took his journey with all that he had, and came to Beer-sheba, and offered sacrifices unto the God of his father Isaac. 2 And God spake unto Israel in the visions of the night, and said, Jacob, Jacob. And he said, Here am I. 3 And he said, I am God, the God of thy father: fear not to go down into Egypt; for I will there make of thee a great nation: 4 I will go down with thee into Egypt; and I will also surely bring thee up again: and Joseph shall put his hand upon thine eyes.

5 And Jacob rose up from Beer-sheba: and the sons of Israel carried Jacob their father, and their little ones, and their wives, in the wagons which Pharaoh had sent to carry him. 6 And they took their cattle, and their goods, which they had gotten in the land of Canaan, and came into Egypt, Jacob, and all his seed with him: 7 His sons, and his sons’ sons with him, his daughters, and his sons’ daughters, and all his seed brought he with him into Egypt.

8 And these are the names of the children of Israel, which came into Egypt, Jacob and his sons: Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn. 9 And the sons of Reuben; Hanoch, and Phallu, and Hezron, and Carmi.

10 And the sons of Simeon; Jemuel, and Jamin, and Ohad, and Jachin, and Zohar, and Shaul the son of a Canaanitish woman.*46.10 Jemuel: or, Nemuel*46.10 Jachin: or, Jarib*46.10 Zohar: or, Zerah

11 And the sons of Levi; Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.*46.11 Gershon: or, Gershom

12 And the sons of Judah; Er, and Onan, and Shelah, and Pharez, and Zerah: but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan. And the sons of Pharez were Hezron and Hamul.

13 And the sons of Issachar; Tola, and Phuvah, and Job, and Shimron.*46.13 Phuvah, and Job: or, Puah, and Jashub

14 And the sons of Zebulun; Sered, and Elon, and Jahleel. 15 These be the sons of Leah, which she bare unto Jacob in Padan-aram, with his daughter Dinah: all the souls of his sons and his daughters were thirty and three.

16 And the sons of Gad; Ziphion, and Haggi, Shuni, and Ezbon, Eri, and Arodi, and Areli.*46.16 Ziphion: or, Zephon*46.16 Ezbon: or, Ozni*46.16 Arodi: or, Arod

17 And the sons of Asher; Jimnah, and Ishuah, and Isui, and Beriah, and Serah their sister: and the sons of Beriah; Heber, and Malchiel. 18 These are the sons of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to Leah his daughter, and these she bare unto Jacob, even sixteen souls. 19 The sons of Rachel Jacob’s wife; Joseph, and Benjamin.

20 And unto Joseph in the land of Egypt were born Manasseh and Ephraim, which Asenath the daughter of Poti-pherah priest of On bare unto him.*46.20 priest: or, prince

21 And the sons of Benjamin were Belah, and Becher, and Ashbel, Gera, and Naaman, Ehi, and Rosh, Muppim, and Huppim, and Ard.*46.21 Ehi: or, Ahiram*46.21 Muppim: or, Shupham or, Shuppim*46.21 Huppim: or, Hupham 22 These are the sons of Rachel, which were born to Jacob: all the souls were fourteen.

23 And the sons of Dan; Hushim.*46.23 Hushim: or, Shuham

24 And the sons of Naphtali; Jahzeel, and Guni, and Jezer, and Shillem. 25 These are the sons of Bilhah, which Laban gave unto Rachel his daughter, and she bare these unto Jacob: all the souls were seven. 26 All the souls that came with Jacob into Egypt, which came out of his loins, besides Jacob’s sons’ wives, all the souls were threescore and six;*46.26 loins: Heb. thigh 27 And the sons of Joseph, which were born him in Egypt, were two souls: all the souls of the house of Jacob, which came into Egypt, were threescore and ten.

28 And he sent Judah before him unto Joseph, to direct his face unto Goshen; and they came into the land of Goshen. 29 And Joseph made ready his chariot, and went up to meet Israel his father, to Goshen, and presented himself unto him; and he fell on his neck, and wept on his neck a good while. 30 And Israel said unto Joseph, Now let me die, since I have seen thy face, because thou art yet alive. 31 And Joseph said unto his brethren, and unto his father’s house, I will go up, and shew Pharaoh, and say unto him, My brethren, and my father’s house, which were in the land of Canaan, are come unto me; 32 And the men are shepherds, for their trade hath been to feed cattle; and they have brought their flocks, and their herds, and all that they have.*46.32 their trade…: Heb. they are men of cattle 33 And it shall come to pass, when Pharaoh shall call you, and shall say, What is your occupation? 34 That ye shall say, Thy servants’ trade hath been about cattle from our youth even until now, both we, and also our fathers: that ye may dwell in the land of Goshen; for every shepherd is an abomination unto the Egyptians.
