1 Ο Ιωσήφ δεν μπορούσε πια να συγκρατηθεί μπροστά σ’ όλους εκείνους που τον περιστοίχιζαν και φώναξε: «Να φύγουν όλοι από μπροστά μου!» Έτσι, ήταν μόνος με τ’ αδέρφια του όταν τους φανερώθηκε. 2 Τότε ξέσπασε σ’ ένα κλάμα τόσο δυνατό, που τον άκουγαν οι Αιγύπτιοι και το έμαθαν ακόμα και στο ανάκτορο του Φαραώ. 3 Ο Ιωσήφ είπε στους αδερφούς του: «Εγώ είμαι ο Ιωσήφ! Ζει ακόμα ο πατέρας μου;» Οι αδερφοί του όμως δεν μπορούσαν να του απαντήσουν και στέκονταν μπροστά του εμβρόντητοι.

4 «Πλησιάστε με, λοιπόν!» τους είπε ο Ιωσήφ. Εκείνοι τον πλησίασαν, και τους είπε: «Εγώ είμαι ο Ιωσήφ ο αδερφός σας, που τον πουλήσατε στην Αίγυπτο. 5 Αλλά τώρα μη λυπάστε και μην έχετε τύψεις που με πουλήσατε, γιατί ο Θεός με έστειλε εδώ πριν από σας για να σας σώσω τη ζωή. 6 Είναι δύο χρόνια τώρα που η πείνα κυριαρχεί στη χώρα. Και για πέντε ακόμα χρόνια δε θα υπάρχει ούτε όργωμα ούτε θερισμός. 7 Ο Θεός όμως με έστειλε εδώ πριν από σας για να σας διασώσω με θαυμαστό τρόπο, και να μπορέσετε να επιβιώσετε στη χώρα. 8 Δε με στείλατε, λοιπόν, εσείς εδώ, αλλά ο Θεός. Με έκανε σύμβουλο του Φαραώ, υπεύθυνο στο ανάκτορό του, και κυβερνήτη όλης της Αιγύπτου. 9 Τώρα βιαστείτε να πάτε πίσω στον πατέρα μου και να του πείτε ότι ο γιος του ο Ιωσήφ λέει: "ο Θεός με έκανε κύριο όλης της Αιγύπτου. Έλα σ’ εμένα, μην αργείς. 10 Θα εγκατασταθείς στην περιοχή της Γεσέν, και θα είσαι κοντά μου εσύ, τα παιδιά σου και τα εγγόνια σου, τα πρόβατά σου και τα βόδια σου, και ό,τι άλλο έχεις. 11 Εγώ θα φροντίσω για τη συντήρησή σου εκεί, γιατί μένουν ακόμα πέντε χρόνια πείνας. Δε θα στερηθείς τίποτα εσύ και το σπίτι σου και τα κοπάδια σου". 12 Βλέπετε λοιπόν με τα ίδια σας τα μάτια, και με βλέπει κι ο αδερφός μου ο Βενιαμίν, ότι εγώ είμαι που σας μιλάω. 13 Διηγηθείτε στον πατέρα μου όλη τη δόξα που έχω εδώ στην Αίγυπτο και όλα όσα είδατε, και βιαστείτε να τον φέρετε εδώ».

14 Ύστερα έπεσε στο λαιμό του Βενιαμίν του αδερφού του και έκλαψε. Έκλαψε κι ο Βενιαμίν πεσμένος στον τράχηλό του. 15 Φίλησε ακόμα όλους τους αδερφούς του κλαίγοντας. Μετά απ’ αυτά οι αδερφοί του μπόρεσαν να μιλήσουν μαζί του.

16 Το γεγονός μαθεύτηκε στο ανάκτορο του Φαραώ, ότι είχαν έρθει τ’ αδέρφια του Ιωσήφ, και χάρηκαν ο Φαραώ και οι άρχοντές του. 17 Ο Φαραώ είπε στον Ιωσήφ: «Να πεις στ’ αδέρφια σου να φορτώσουν τα ζώα τους και να φύγουν για τη Χαναάν. 18 Να πάρουν τον πατέρα τους και τις οικογένειές τους και να έρθουν κοντά μου. Θα σας δώσω ό,τι καλύτερο υπάρχει στην Αίγυπτο και θ’ απολαύσουν την αφθονία της χώρας. 19 Πες τους επίσης να πάρουν από την Αίγυπτο αμάξια για τα παιδιά τους και τις γυναίκες τους, ν’ ανεβάσουν τον πατέρα τους και να έρθουν. 20 Να μη λυπηθούν τα πράγματά τους που θ’ αφήσουν πίσω, γιατί τα καλύτερα αγαθά όλης της Αιγύπτου θα είναι δικά τους». 21 Έτσι κι έκαναν οι γιοι του Ισραήλ. Ο Ιωσήφ τούς έδωσε αμάξια, σύμφωνα με τη διαταγή του Φαραώ, τούς έδωσε και εφόδια για το δρόμο. 22 Έδωσε σ’ όλους τους από μια γιορτινή φορεσιά, αλλά στο Βενιαμίν έδωσε τριακόσιους σίκλους ασήμι και πέντε γιορτινές φορεσιές. 23 Στον πατέρα του έστειλε δέκα γαϊδούρια φορτωμένα με τα καλύτερα προϊόντα της Αιγύπτου, και δέκα θηλυκά γαϊδούρια φορτωμένα σιτάρι, ψωμί και τρόφιμα για το ταξίδι του πατέρα του. 24 Ύστερα κατευόδωσε τους αδερφούς του, και καθώς ξεκινούσαν τους είπε: «Μη μαλώνετε στο δρόμο».

25 Εκείνοι ανέβηκαν από την Αίγυπτο και ήρθαν στη Χαναάν, στον πατέρα τους τον Ιακώβ. 26 «Ζει ακόμα ο Ιωσήφ!» του είπαν. «Και μάλιστα αυτός είναι που διοικεί όλη την Αίγυπτο». Αλλά ο Ιακώβ έμενε ασυγκίνητος, γιατί δεν τους πίστευε. 27 Του επανέλαβαν τότε όλα όσα τους είχε πει ο Ιωσήφ. Ύστερα είδε τ’ αμάξια που είχε στείλει ο Ιωσήφ για να τον μεταφέρουν, και τότε ο Ιακώβ συνήλθε. 28 Και είπε: «Μου φτάνει ότι ζει ακόμα ο Ιωσήφ, το παιδί μου· θα πάω να τον δω πριν πεθάνω».

1 Then Joseph could not refrain himself before all them that stood by him; and he cried, Cause every man to go out from me. And he said, I am Joseph your brother, whom ye sold into Egypt. 5 Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither: for God did send me before you to preserve life.*45.5 nor…: Heb. neither let there be anger in your eyes 6 For these two years hath the famine been in the land: and yet there are five years, in the which there shall neither be earing nor harvest. 7 And God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance.*45.7 to preserve…: Heb. to put for you a remnant 8 So now it was not you that sent me hither, but God: and he hath made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt. 9 Haste ye, and go up to my father, and say unto him, Thus saith thy son Joseph, God hath made me lord of all Egypt: come down unto me, tarry not: 10 And thou shalt dwell in the land of Goshen, and thou shalt be near unto me, thou, and thy children, and thy children’s children, and thy flocks, and thy herds, and all that thou hast: 11 And there will I nourish thee; for yet there are five years of famine; lest thou, and thy household, and all that thou hast, come to poverty. 12 And, behold, your eyes see, and the eyes of my brother Benjamin, that it is my mouth that speaketh unto you. 13 And ye shall tell my father of all my glory in Egypt, and of all that ye have seen; and ye shall haste and bring down my father hither. 14 And he fell upon his brother Benjamin’s neck, and wept; and Benjamin wept upon his neck. 15 Moreover he kissed all his brethren, and wept upon them: and after that his brethren talked with him.

25 And they went up out of Egypt, and came into the land of Canaan unto Jacob their father, 26 And told him, saying, Joseph is yet alive, and he is governor over all the land of Egypt.
