Psalms 105

God’s Faithfulness to His People

1 Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name;

proclaim his deeds among the peoples.  * 105:1 Ps 9:11; Is 12:4

2 Sing to him, sing praise to him;

tell about all his wondrous works!  * 105:2 Ps 96:3

3 Boast in his holy name;

let the hearts of those who seek the  Lord  rejoice.  * 105:3 Ps 33:21

4 Seek the  Lord and his strength;

seek his face always.  * 105:4 Ps 27:8; 63:2

5 Remember the wondrous works he has done,

his wonders, and the judgments he has pronounced,  * 105:5 Lit judgments of his mouth,* 105:5 Ps 77:11; 119:13

6 you offspring of Abraham his servant,

Jacob’s descendants — his chosen ones.  * 105:6 Ps 135:4

7 He is the Lord our God;

his judgments govern the whole earth.  * 105:7 Is 26:9

8 He remembers his covenant forever,

the promise he ordained

for a thousand generations  * 105:8 Dt 7:9; Ps 106:45; Lk 1:42  —

9 the covenant he made with Abraham,

swore  * 105:9 Lit and his oath to Isaac,  * 105:9 Gn 12:7; 22:16–18

10 and confirmed to Jacob as a decree

and to Israel as a permanent covenant:  * 105:10 Gn 28:13–15

11 "I will give the land of Canaan to you

as your inherited portion."  * 105:11 Gn 13:15; 15:18; Ps 78:55

12 When they were few in number,

very few indeed,

and resident aliens in Canaan,  * 105:12 Gn 34:30; Dt 7:7

13 wandering from nation to nation

and from one kingdom to another,  * 105:13 Dt 26:5

14 he allowed no one to oppress them;

he rebuked kings on their behalf:  * 105:14 Gn 12:17; 20:3,7

15 "Do not touch my anointed ones,  * 105:15 Gn 20:6–7; 26:11

or harm my prophets."  * 105:1–15 1Ch 16:8–22

16 He called down famine against the land

and destroyed the entire food supply.  * 105:16 Gn 41:54; Lv 26:26; Ezk 4:16

17 He had sent a man ahead of them —

Joseph, who was sold as a slave.  * 105:17 Gn 37:28–36; 45:5; Ac 7:9

18 They hurt his feet with shackles;

his neck was put in an iron collar.  * 105:18 Gn 39:20

19 Until the time his prediction came true,

the word of the  Lord tested him.  * 105:19 Gn 40:20–21

20 The king sent for him and released him;

the ruler of peoples set him free.  * 105:20 Gn 41:14

21 He made him master of his household,

ruler over all his possessions  * 105:21 Gn 41:40–43  —

23 Then Israel went to Egypt;

24 The Lord* 105:24 Lit He made his people very fruitful;

25 whose hearts he turned to hate his people

26 He sent Moses his servant,

and Aaron, whom he had chosen.  * 105:26 Ex 3:10; 4:12,14

27 They performed his miraculous signs among them

28 He sent darkness, and it became dark —

29 He turned their water into blood

30 Their land was overrun with frogs,

even in their royal chambers.  * 105:30 Ex 8:3,6

31 He spoke, and insects came  * 105:31 Ex 8:21  —

32 He gave them hail for rain,

and lightning throughout their land.  * 105:32–33 Ex 9:23–25

33 He struck their vines and fig trees

and shattered the trees of their territory.  * 105:33 Ps 78:47

34 He spoke, and locusts came —

young locusts without number.

35 They devoured all the vegetation in their land

and consumed the produce of their land.  * 105:34–35 Ex 10:12–15

36 He struck all the firstborn in their land,

37 Then he brought Israel out with silver and gold,

and no one among his tribes stumbled.  * 105:37 Ex 12:35–36

38 Egypt was glad when they left,

39 He spread a cloud as a covering

40 They asked, and he brought quail

41 He opened a rock, and water gushed out;

it flowed like a stream in the desert.  * 105:41 Ex 17:6; Nm 20:11; Ps 78:15

42 For he remembered his holy promise

to Abraham his servant.  * 105:42 Ex 2:24

43 He brought his people out with rejoicing,

his chosen ones with shouts of joy.  * 105:43 Ex 15:1; Ps 106:12

44 He gave them the lands of the nations,

and they inherited

what other peoples had worked for.  * 105:44 Jos 24:13; Ps 78:55

45 All this happened

so that they might keep his statutes

and obey his instructions.  * 105:45 Dt 4:1,40; Ps 78:7
