A Prayer for Jerusalem
A song of ascents. Of David.
1 I rejoiced with those who said to me,
"Let’s go to the house of the Lord." 122:1 Is 2:3; Mc 4:2; Zch 8:21
2 Our feet were standing
within your gates, Jerusalem 122:2 Ps 9:14; Jr 7:2 —
3 Jerusalem, built as a city should be,
solidly united, 122:3 Neh 4:6; Ps 147:2
4 where the tribes, the Lord’s tribes, go up
to give thanks to the name of the Lord. 122:4 Is 2:3; Mc 4:2
(This is an ordinance for Israel. 122:4 1Ch 22:13)
5 There, thrones for judgment are placed,
thrones of the house of David. 122:5 Dt 17:8; 2Ch 19:8
6 Pray for the well-being 122:6 Or peace of Jerusalem:
"May those who love you be secure; 122:6 Ps 51:18; Jr 29:7
7 may there be peace within your walls,
security within your fortresses." 122:7 Ps 48:3
8 Because of my brothers and friends,
I will say, "May peace be in you." 122:8 = Jerusalem, 122:8 1Sm 25:6; Ps 85:8
9 Because of the house of the Lord our God,
I will pursue your prosperity. 122:9 Neh 2:10; Est 10:3
