Psalms 27

My Stronghold

Of David.

1 The Lord is my light and my salvation —

whom should I fear?  * 27:1 Is 60:20; Mc 7:8

The Lord is the stronghold of my life —

whom should I dread?  * 27:1 Ps 28:8; 118:6

2 When evildoers came against me to devour my flesh,  * 27:2 Ps 14:4

my foes and my enemies stumbled and fell.  * 27:2 Ps 9:3

3 Though an army deploys against me,

my heart will not be afraid;

though a war breaks out against me,

I will still be confident.  * 27:3 Ps 3:6

4 I have asked one thing from the  Lord;

it is what I desire:

to dwell in the house of the  Lord

all the days of my life,  * 27:4 Ps 23:6; 26:8

gazing on the beauty of the  Lord* 27:4 Ps 93:5

and seeking him in his temple.  * 27:4 Mal 3:1

5 For he will conceal me in his shelter

in the day of adversity;

he will hide me under the cover of his tent;

he will set me high on a rock.  * 27:5 Ps 31:20; 91:1; Is 25:4

6 Then my head will be high

above my enemies around me;  * 27:6 Ps 3:3

I will offer sacrifices in his tent with shouts of joy.  * 27:6 Ps 54:6; 116:17

I will sing and make music to the  Lord.  * 27:6 Eph 5:19

7 Lord, hear my voice when I call;

be gracious to me and answer me.  * 27:7 Ps 4:3; 30:10

8 My heart says this about you:

"Seek  * 27:8 The command is pl in Hb his face."

Lord, I will seek your face.  * 27:8 Ps 24:6; 105:4

9 Do not hide your face from me;  * 27:9 Ps 69:17; 102:2; 143:7

do not turn your servant away in anger.  * 27:9 Ps 6:1

You have been my helper;  * 27:9 Ps 40:17

do not leave me or abandon me,

God of my salvation.

10 Even if my father and mother abandon me,

the Lord cares for me.  * 27:9–10 Ps 37:28; 94:14

11 Because of my adversaries,

show me your way,  Lord,

and lead me on a level path.  * 27:11 Ps 25:4; 26:12

12 Do not give me over to the will of my foes,

for false witnesses rise up against me,

breathing violence.  * 27:12 Ps 35:11; 41:2; Mt 26:59–60

13 I am certain that I will see the Lord’s goodness

in the land of the living.  * 27:13 Ex 33:19; Ps 116:9; 142:5

14 Wait for the  Lord;

be strong, and let your heart be courageous.  * 27:14 Jos 1:6

Wait for the  Lord.  * 27:14 Ps 37:34; 130:5
