Psalms 80

A Prayer for Restoration

1 Listen, Shepherd of Israel,

who leads Joseph like a flock;  * 80:1 Ezk 34:11,16,31

you who sit enthroned between the cherubim,  * 80:1 Ps 99:1

shine  * 80:1 Dt 33:2; Ps 94:12 on Ephraim,

Benjamin, and Manasseh.  * 80:2 Nm 2:17–24

Rally your power and come to save us.  * 80:2 Ps 35:23; 106:47; 118:25

3 Restore us, God;

make your face shine on us,  * 80:3 Nm 6:25

so that we may be saved.  * 80:3 Ps 60:1; 85:4; Lm 5:21

4 Lord God of Armies,

how long will you be angry

with your people’s prayers?  * 80:4 Ps 74:10; 79:5; 85:5

5 You fed them the bread of tears

and gave them a full measure  * 80:5 Lit a one-third measure

of tears to drink.  * 80:5 Ps 102:9; Is 30:20; Hs 9:4

6 You put us at odds with our neighbors;

our enemies mock us.  * 80:6 Ps 44:13; 79:4

7 Restore us, God of Armies;

make your face shine on us, so that we may be saved.  * 80:7 Ps 60:1; Lm 5:21

8 You dug up a vine from Egypt;

you drove out the nations and planted it.  * 80:8 Jr 2:21; 32:41

9 You cleared a place for it;

it took root and filled the land.  * 80:9 Am 9:15

10 The mountains were covered by its shade,

11 It sent out sprouts toward the Sea  * 80:11 = the Mediterranean

12 Why have you broken down its walls

so that all who pass by pick its fruit?  * 80:12 Ps 89:40; Is 5:5

13 Boars from the forest tear at it

and creatures of the field feed on it.  * 80:13 Jr 5:6

14 Return, God of Armies.  * 80:14 Ps 6:4; 90:13

Look down from heaven and see;

take care of this vine,

15 the root  * 80:15 Hb obscure your right hand planted,

the son  * 80:15 Or shoot that you made strong for yourself.  * 80:14–15 Is 63:15

16 It was cut down and burned;

17 Let your hand be with the man at your right hand,

with the son of man

you have made strong for yourself.  * 80:17 Ps 89:21

18 Then we will not turn away from you;
