Psalms 110

The Priestly King

A psalm of David.

1 This is the declaration of the  Lord

to my Lord:

"Sit at my right hand

until I make your enemies your footstool."  * 110:1 Mt 22:44; Mk 12:36; Lk 20:42–43; Ac 2:34–35; 1Co 15:25; Heb 1:13

2 The Lord will extend your mighty scepter from Zion.

3 Your people will volunteer

In holy splendor, from the womb of the dawn,

the dew of your youth belongs to you.  * 110:3 Hb obscure,* 110:3 1Ch 16:29; Ps 96:9

4 The Lord has sworn an oath and will not take it back:

"You are a priest forever

according to the pattern of Melchizedek."  * 110:4 Gn 14:18; Heb 5:6,10; 7:17,21

5 The Lord is at your right hand;

he will crush kings on the day of his anger.  * 110:5 Ps 16:8; 68:14

6 He will judge the nations, heaping up corpses;  * 110:6 Is 66:24; Rv 19:17–18

he will crush leaders over the entire world.  * 110:6 Ps 68:21

7 He will drink from the brook by the road;  * 110:7 Jdg 7:5–6

therefore, he will lift up his head.  * 110:7 Ps 27:6
