Psalms 87

Zion, the City of God

A psalm of the sons of Korah. A song.

1 The city he founded  * 87:1 Lit His foundation is on the holy mountains.  * 87:1 Ps 78:69; Is 28:16

2 The Lord loves Zion’s city gates

more than all the dwellings of Jacob.  * 87:2 Ps 78:67–68

3 Glorious things are said about you,

city of God.  * 87:3 Ps 48:8Selah

4 "I will make a record of those who know me:

Rahab, Babylon, Philistia, Tyre, and Cush —

each one was born there."  * 87:4 Is 19:23–25; 56:6–7; Zch 2:10–12

5 And it will be said of Zion,

"This one and that one were born in her."

The Most High himself will establish her.  * 87:5 Ps 48:8; Is 2:2

6 When he registers the peoples,

the  Lord will record,

"This one was born there."  * 87:6 Is 4:3; Ezk 13:9Selah

7 Singers and dancers  * 87:7 Or musicians alike will say,  * 87:7 Or As they dance they will sing

"My whole source of joy is  * 87:7 Lit "All my springs are in you."  * 87:7 Ps 46:4; 68:25
