Thanksgiving for God’s Deliverance
1 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;

2 Let the redeemed of the Lord proclaim
that he has redeemed them from the power of the foe 107:2 Ps 78:42; 106:10
3 and has gathered them from the lands —
from the east and the west,

4 Some wandered in the desolate wilderness,
finding no way to a city where they could live. 107:4 Nm 14:33; 32:13
5 They were hungry and thirsty;

6 Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble;
he rescued them from their distress. 107:6 Ps 106:44
7 He led them by the right path
to go to a city where they could live. 107:7 Jr 31:9
8 Let them give thanks to the Lord

9 For he has satisfied the thirsty

11 because they rebelled against God’s commands

13 Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble;

14 He brought them out of darkness and gloom

15 Let them give thanks to the Lord

16 For he has broken down the bronze gates

17 Fools suffered affliction

18 They loathed all food

19 Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble;

20 He sent his word and healed them;

23 Others went to sea in ships,

25 He spoke and raised a stormy wind

26 Rising up to the sky, sinking down to the depths,

28 Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,

29 He stilled the storm to a whisper,

30 They rejoiced when the waves grew quiet.

31 Let them give thanks to the Lord
for his faithful love

32 Let them exalt him in the assembly of the people

33 He turns rivers into desert,
springs into thirsty ground, 107:33 Is 42:15; 50:2
34 and fruitful land into salty wasteland,

35 He turns a desert into a pool,

36 He causes the hungry to settle there,
and they establish a city where they can live. 107:36 Ps 60:9; 146:7
37 They sow fields and plant vineyards
that yield a fruitful harvest. 107:37 Is 65:21; Am 9:14
38 He blesses them, and they multiply greatly; 107:38 Gn 12:2; Ex 1:7
he does not let their livestock decrease. 107:38 Dt 7:14
39 When they are diminished and are humbled
by cruel oppression and sorrow, 107:39 Ps 44:25
40 he pours contempt on nobles 107:40 Jb 12:21
and makes them wander in a trackless wasteland. 107:40 Jb 12:24
41 But he lifts the needy out of their suffering 107:41 1Sm 2:8; Ps 113:7–8

43 Let whoever is wise pay attention to these things
