Thanksgiving for Victory

1 Give thanks to the  Lord, for he is good;

his faithful love endures forever.  * 118:1 2Ch 5:13; Ezr 3:11; Ps 100:5

2 Let Israel say,

"His faithful love endures forever."  * 118:2 Ps 115:9

3 Let the house of Aaron say,

"His faithful love endures forever."  * 118:3 Ps 115:10; 135:19

4 Let those who fear the  Lord say,

"His faithful love endures forever."  * 118:4 Ps 22:23; 115:11

5 I called to the Lord in distress;  * 118:5 Ps 18:6; 120:1

the Lord answered me

and put me in a spacious place.  * 118:5 Or answered me with freedom,* 118:5 Ps 18:19

6 The Lord is for me; I will not be afraid.

What can a mere mortal do to me?  * 118:6 Ps 56:4,11; Rm 8:31; Heb 13:6

7 The Lord is my helper;

therefore, I will look in triumph on those who hate me.  * 118:7 Ps 54:4,7; 59:10

8 It is better to take refuge in the  Lord

than to trust in humanity.  * 118:8 Ps 40:4; 108:12; Jr 17:5

9 It is better to take refuge in the  Lord

than to trust in nobles.  * 118:9 Ps 146:3

10 All the nations surrounded me;

in the name of the  Lord I destroyed them.  * 118:10 Ps 3:6; 88:17

11 They surrounded me, yes, they surrounded me;

in the name of the  Lord I destroyed them.  * 118:11 Ps 18:40

12 They surrounded me like bees;  * 118:12 Dt 1:44

they were extinguished like a fire among thorns;

in the name of the  Lord I destroyed them.  * 118:12 Ps 58:9; Nah 1:10

13 They  * 118:13 Lit You pushed me hard to make me fall,

but the Lord helped me.  * 118:13 Ps 140:4

14 The Lord is my strength and my song;

he has become my salvation.  * 118:14 Ex 15:2; Ps 27:1; Is 12:2

15 There are shouts of joy and victory

in the tents of the righteous:

"The Lord’s right hand performs valiantly!  * 118:15 Ex 15:6; Lk 1:51

16 The Lord’s right hand is raised.

The Lord’s right hand performs valiantly! "  * 118:16 Ps 89:13

17 I will not die, but I will live

and proclaim what the  Lord has done.  * 118:17 Ps 73:28; Hab 1:12

18 The Lord disciplined me severely

but did not give me over to death.  * 118:18 Ps 86:13; Jr 30:11; 2Co 6:9

19 Open the gates of righteousness for me;

I will enter through them

and give thanks to the  Lord.  * 118:19 Is 26:2

20 This is the Lord’s gate;

the righteous will enter through it.  * 118:20 Ps 24:3–6; Rv 22:14

21 I will give thanks to you

because you have answered me

and have become my salvation.  * 118:21 Ps 116:1

22 The stone that the builders rejected

has become the cornerstone.  * 118:22 Lk 20:17; Ac 4:11; 1Pt 2:4,7

23 This came from the  Lord;

it is wondrous in our sight.  * 118:23 Mt 21:42; Mk 12:11

24 This is the day the  Lord has made;

let’s rejoice and be glad in it.  * 118:24 Ps 31:7

25 Lord, save us!

Lord, please grant us success!  * 118:25 Neh 2:20; Ps 122:6–7

26 He who comes in the name

of the  Lord is blessed.  * 118:25–26 Mt 21:9; Mk 11:9–10; Lk 13:35; Jn 12:13

From the house of the Lord we bless you.  * 118:26 Ps 129:8

27 The Lord is God and has given us light.

Bind the festival sacrifice with cords

to the horns of the altar.  * 118:27 Ex 27:2; Ps 18:28; 1Pt 2:9

28 You are my God, and I will give you thanks.

You are my God; I will exalt you.  * 118:28 Is 25:1

29 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
