Psalms 147

God Restores Jerusalem

1 Hallelujah!

How good it is to sing to our God,

for praise is pleasant and lovely.  * 147:1 Ps 33:1; 135:3

2 The Lord rebuilds Jerusalem;  * 147:2 Ps 51:18; 102:16

he gathers Israel’s exiled people.  * 147:2 Dt 30:3; Ezk 39:28

3 He heals the brokenhearted

and bandages their wounds.  * 147:3 Ps 34:18; Is 61:1

4 He counts the number of the stars;

he gives names to all of them.  * 147:4 Gn 15:5; Is 40:26

5 Our Lord is great, vast in power;

his understanding is infinite.  * 147:5 Lit understanding has no number,* 147:5 Ps 48:1; Is 40:28

6 The Lord helps the oppressed

but brings the wicked to the ground.  * 147:6 Ps 146:8–9

7 Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving;

play the lyre to our God,  * 147:7 Ps 33:2; 95:1–2

8 who covers the sky with clouds,

prepares rain for the earth,

and causes grass to grow on the hills.  * 147:8 Jb 5:10; 38:27; Ps 104:14

9 He provides the animals with their food,

and the young ravens what they cry for.  * 147:9 Jb 38:41; Ps 104:27–28

10 He is not impressed by the strength of a horse;

he does not value the power of a warrior.  * 147:10 Lit the legs of the man,* 147:10 Ps 33:17

11 The Lord values those who fear him,

those who put their hope in his faithful love.  * 147:11 Ps 33:18; 149:4

12 Exalt the Lord, Jerusalem;

praise your God, Zion!  * 147:12 Ps 99:5,9

13 For he strengthens the bars of your city gates

and blesses your children within you.  * 147:13 Neh 7:3

14 He endows your territory with prosperity;  * 147:14 Or peace,* 147:14 Is 54:13

he satisfies you with the finest wheat.  * 147:14 Dt 32:14; Ps 81:16

15 He sends his command throughout the earth;

his word runs swiftly.  * 147:15 Ps 104:4

16 He spreads snow like wool;

he scatters frost like ashes;  * 147:16 Jb 37:6; 38:29

17 he throws his hailstones like crumbs.

Who can withstand his cold?  * 147:17 Jb 37:9–10

18 He sends his word and melts them;

he unleashes his winds,  * 147:18 Or breath and the water flows.  * 147:18 Ps 33:9; 107:20

19 He declares his word to Jacob,

his statutes and judgments to Israel.  * 147:19 Dt 33:2–4; Mal 4:4

20 He has not done this for every nation;

they do not know his judgments.  * 147:20 Dt 4:7,32–34
