Salmos 18

Praise for Deliverance

For the choir director. Of the servant of the Lord, David, who spoke the words of this song to the Lord on the day the Lord rescued him from the grasp of all his enemies and from the power of Saul. # 18:title 2Sm 22 He said:

1 I love you, Lord, my strength.

2 The Lord is my rock,

my fortress, and my deliverer,  * 18:2 Ps 62:7; 94:22

my God, my rock where I seek refuge,

my stronghold.

3 I called to the Lord, who is worthy of praise,  * 18:3 Ps 48:1; 96:4; 145:3

and I was saved from my enemies.  * 18:3 Ps 138:7

4 The ropes of death were wrapped around me;

the torrents of destruction terrified me.  * 18:4 Ps 124:4

5 The ropes of Sheol entangled me;

6 I called to the Lord in my distress,

and I cried to my God for help.

From his temple he heard my voice,  * 18:6 Ps 3:4

7 Then the earth shook and quaked;

they shook because he burned with anger.

8 Smoke rose from his nostrils,

and consuming fire came from his mouth;

total darkness beneath his feet.

10 He rode on a cherub and flew,

11 He made darkness his hiding place,

his clouds swept onward with hail and blazing coals.

14 He shot his arrows and scattered them;

15 The depths of the sea became visible,

the foundations of the world were exposed,

at your rebuke, Lord,

16 He reached down from on high

and took hold of me;

he pulled me out of deep water.  * 18:16 Ps 144:7

17 He rescued me from my powerful enemy

and from those who hated me,

for they were too strong for me.  * 18:17 Ps 35:10; 59:1; 142:6

18 They confronted me in the day of my calamity,

but the Lord was my support.  * 18:18 Ps 55:22; 59:16

19 He brought me out to a spacious place;  * 18:19 Ps 31:8; 118:5

he rescued me because he delighted in me.  * 18:19 Ps 41:11

20 The Lord rewarded me

according to my righteousness;  * 18:20 Ps 7:8

he repaid me

according to the cleanness of my hands.  * 18:20 Ps 24:4

21 For I have kept the ways of the  Lord

and have not turned from my God to wickedness.  * 18:21 Jb 23:11; Ps 119:101

22 Indeed, I let all his ordinances guide me  * 18:22 Lit Indeed, all his ordinances have been in front of me

and have not disregarded his statutes.  * 18:22 Lv 18:4–5

and kept myself from my iniquity.

24 So the Lord repaid me

according to my righteousness,  * 18:24 2Ch 6:23

according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight.  * 18:24 Ps 24:4

25 With the faithful

you prove yourself faithful,

with the blameless

you prove yourself blameless,

26 with the pure

you prove yourself pure,

but with the crooked

you prove yourself shrewd.  * 18:25–26 Mt 16:27; Rv 22:12

27 For you rescue an oppressed people,  * 18:27 Ps 72:12

but you humble those with haughty eyes.  * 18:27 Ps 138:6

28 Lord, you light my lamp;

my God illuminates my darkness.  * 18:28 Ps 112:4; Is 42:16

29 With you I can attack a barricade,  * 18:29 Or a ridge, or raiders

30 God — his way is perfect;  * 18:30 Dt 32:4

He is a shield to all who take refuge in him.  * 18:30 Ps 91:4; 144:2

And who is a rock? Only our God.  * 18:31 Ps 62:2

32 God — he clothes me with strength  * 18:32 Is 45:5

and makes my way perfect.

33 He makes my feet like the feet of a deer  * 18:33 Hab 3:19

34 He trains my hands for war;  * 18:34 Ps 144:1

35 You have given me the shield of your salvation;

and your humility exalts me.

36 You make a spacious place beneath me for my steps,  * 18:36 Ps 31:8; 118:5

37 I pursue my enemies and overtake them;

I do not turn back until they are wiped out.  * 18:37 Ps 44:5

38 I crush them, and they cannot get up;

39 You have clothed me with strength for battle;  * 18:39 1Sm 2:4

I annihilate those who hate me.  * 18:40 Dt 7:10

43 You have freed me from the feuds among the people;

44 Foreigners submit to me cringing;

45 Foreigners lose heart

and come trembling from their fortifications.  * 18:45 Mc 7:17

46 The Lord lives — blessed be my rock!

The God of my salvation is exalted.  * 18:46 Ps 62:2,6

47 God — he grants me vengeance  * 18:47 2Sm 4:8; Ps 94:1

and subdues peoples under me.  * 18:47 Ps 47:3; 144:2

48 He frees me from my enemies.

You exalt me above my adversaries;

you rescue me from violent men.  * 18:48 Ps 59:1; 140:1

49 Therefore I will give thanks to you among the nations,  Lord;

I will sing praises about your name.  * 18:49 Rm 15:9

50 He gives great victories to his king;  * 18:50 Ps 144:10

he shows loyalty to his anointed,
