The Witness of Creation and Scripture
For the choir director. A psalm of David.
1 The heavens declare the glory of God,
and the expanse 19:1 Gn 1:6 proclaims the work of his hands. 19:1 Ps 50:6; Rm 1:19–20
2 Day after day they pour out speech;
night after night they communicate knowledge. 19:2 Or Day to day pours out speech, and night to night communicates knowledge
3 There is no speech; there are no words;
their voice is not heard.
4 Their message 19:4 LXX, Sym, Syr, Vg; MT reads line has gone out to the whole earth,
and their words to the ends of the world. 19:4 Rm 10:18
In the heavens he has pitched a tent for the sun. 19:4 Is 40:22
5 It is like a bridegroom coming from his home;
it rejoices like an athlete running a course.
6 It rises from one end of the heavens
and circles to their other end; 19:6 Ec 1:5
nothing is hidden from its heat.
7 The instruction of the Lord is perfect,
renewing one’s life; 19:7 Ps 111:7
the testimony of the Lord is trustworthy,
making the inexperienced wise. 19:7 Ps 93:5; 119:130
8 The precepts of the Lord are right,
making the heart glad; 19:8 Ps 119:14
the command of the Lord is radiant,
making the eyes light up. 19:8 Ps 13:3
9 The fear of the Lord is pure,
enduring forever; 19:9 Ps 111:10
the ordinances of the Lord are reliable
and altogether righteous. 19:9 Ps 119:30
10 They are more desirable than gold —
than an abundance of pure gold; 19:10 Ps 119:72,127
and sweeter than honey
dripping from a honeycomb. 19:10 Ps 119:103
11 In addition, your servant is warned by them,
and in keeping them there is an abundant reward. 19:11 Pr 29:18
12 Who perceives his unintentional sins?
Cleanse me from my hidden faults. 19:12 Ps 90:8
13 Moreover, keep your servant from willful sins; 19:13 Nm 15:30
do not let them rule me. 19:13 Gn 4:7
Then I will be blameless
and cleansed from blatant rebellion. 19:13 Ps 51:7; Ezk 36:25
14 May the words of my mouth
and the meditation of my heart
be acceptable to you, 19:14 Ps 104:34
Lord, my rock and my Redeemer. 19:14 Ps 78:35
