1 An oracle within my heart

concerning the transgression of the wicked person:

Dread of God has no effect on him.  * 36:1 Lit There is no dread of God in front of his eyes,* 36:1 Rm 3:18

2 For with his flattering opinion of himself,

he does not discover and hate his iniquity.  * 36:2 Dt 29:19; Ps 10:3; 49:18

3 The words from his mouth are malicious and deceptive;  * 36:3 Ps 10:7

he has stopped acting wisely and doing good.  * 36:3 Jr 4:22

4 Even on his bed he makes malicious plans.  * 36:4 Pr 4:16

He sets himself on a path that is not good,

and he does not reject evil.  * 36:4 Ps 10:7; Is 65:2

5 Lord, your faithful love reaches to heaven,

your faithfulness to the clouds.  * 36:5 Ps 57:10; 103:11; 108:4

6 Your righteousness is like the highest mountains,

your judgments like the deepest sea.  * 36:6 Ps 71:19

Lord, you preserve people and animals.  * 36:6 Ps 104:14–15

7 How priceless your faithful love is, God!

People take refuge in the shadow of your wings.  * 36:7 Ru 2:12; Ps 17:8; 57:1; 91:4

8 They are filled from the abundance of your house.

You let them drink from your refreshing stream.  * 36:8 Ps 46:4; 65:4; Jr 31:12–14

9 For the wellspring of life is with you.  * 36:9 Jn 4:10,14

By means of your light we see light.  * 36:9 Jn 1:9; Ac 26:18

10 Spread your faithful love over those who know you,

and your righteousness over the upright in heart.  * 36:10 Pr 11:6; Jr 22:16

11 Do not let the foot of the arrogant come near me

or the hand of the wicked drive me away.  * 36:11 Ps 38:16; 119:122

12 There! The evildoers have fallen.

They have been thrown down and cannot rise.  * 36:12 Ps 1:5; 140:10; Is 26:14
