1 And there came certain of the elders of Israel unto me, and sat before me. 2 And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying, 3 Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumbling-block of their iniquity before their face: should I be inquired of at all by them? 4 Therefore speak to them, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumbling-block of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet, I Jehovah will answer him according to this, according to the multitude of his idols: 5 that I may take the house of Israel by their own heart, because they are all estranged from me through their idols. 6 Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Return ye, and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations. 7 For every one of the house of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn in Israel, who separateth himself from me, and setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumbling-block of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet to inquire of me by him, I Jehovah will answer him by myself; 8 and I will set my face against that man, and will make him desolate, so that he shall be for a sign and for proverbs, and I will cut him off from the midst of my people: and ye shall know that I am Jehovah. 9 And if the prophet be enticed and shall speak a word, I Jehovah have enticed that prophet; and I will stretch out my hand against him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel. 10 And they shall bear their iniquity: the iniquity of the prophet shall be even as the iniquity of the inquirer; 11 that the house of Israel may go no more astray from me, neither make themselves any more unclean with all their transgressions; and they shall be my people, and I will be their God*GodHebrew: Elohim saith the Lord Jehovah.

12 And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying, 13 Son of man, when a land sinneth against me by working unfaithfulness, and I stretch out my hand upon it, and break the staff of the bread thereof, and send famine upon it, and cut off man and beast from it; 14 though these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, should be in it, they should deliver but their own souls by their righteousness, saith the Lord Jehovah. 15 If I cause evil beasts to pass through the land, and they bereave it, and it become a desolation, so that no one passeth through because of the beasts; 16 — though these three men should be in it, as I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, they should deliver neither sons nor daughters: they only should be delivered, and the land should be a desolation. 17 Or if I bring the sword upon that land, and say, Sword, go through the land, so that I cut off man and beast from it, 18 and these three men should be in it, as I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, they should deliver neither sons nor daughters, but they only themselves should be delivered. 19 Or if I send a pestilence into that land, and pour out my fury upon it in blood, to cut off from it man and beast, 20 and Noah, Daniel, and Job should be in it, as I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, they should deliver neither son nor daughter: they should but deliver their own souls by their righteousness. 21 For thus saith the Lord Jehovah: How much more when I send my four sore judgments upon Jerusalem, the sword, and the famine, and the evil beast, and the pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast! 22 But behold, there shall be left in it those that escape, who shall be brought out of it, sons and daughters. Behold, they shall come forth unto you, and ye shall see their way and their doings; and ye shall be comforted concerning the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, as to all that I have brought upon it. 23 And they shall comfort you, when ye see their way and their doings; and ye shall know that I have not done without cause all that I have done in it, saith the Lord Jehovah.

1 Câțiva din bătrânii lui Israel au venit*Cap. 8:1;20:1;33:31. la mine și au șezut înaintea mea. 2 Și cuvântul Domnului mi-a vorbit astfel: 3 „Fiul omului, oamenii aceștia își poartă idolii în inimă și își pironesc privirile spre ceea ce i-a făcut să cadă*Cap. 7:19. Vers. 4,7. în nelegiuire! Să Mă*2 Împ. 3:13. las Eu să fiu întrebat de ei? 4 De aceea vorbește-le și spune-le: ‘Așa vorbește Domnul Dumnezeu: «Orice om din casa lui Israel care își poartă idolii în inimă și care își pironește privirile spre ceea ce l-a făcut să cadă în nelegiuirea lui, dacă va veni să vorbească prorocului, Eu, Domnul, îi voi răspunde, în ciuda mulțimii idolilor lui, 5 ca să prind în chiar inima lor pe aceia din casa lui Israel care s-au depărtat de Mine din pricina tuturor idolilor.»’ 6 De aceea, spune casei lui Israel: ‘Așa vorbește Domnul Dumnezeu: «Întoarceți-vă și abateți-vă de la idolii voștri, întoarceți-vă privirile de la toate urâciunile voastre! 7 Căci orice om din casa lui Israel sau din străinii care locuiesc pentru o vreme în Israel, care s-a depărtat de Mine, care își poartă idolii în inima lui și nu-și ia privirile de la ceea ce l-a făcut să cadă în nelegiuirea lui, dacă va veni să vorbească unui proroc ca să Mă întrebe prin el, Eu, Domnul, prin Mine Însumi îi voi răspunde. 8 Îmi voi întoarce*Lev. 17:10;20:3,5,6.Ier. 44:11. Cap. 15:7. Fața împotriva omului acestuia, îl voi face un semn*Num. 26:10.Deut. 28:37. Cap. 5:15. și de pomină și îl voi nimici cu desăvârșire din mijlocul poporului Meu. Și veți ști*Cap. 6:7. că Eu sunt Domnul! 9 Dacă prorocul se va lăsa amăgit*1 Împ. 22:23.Iov 12:16.Ier. 4:10. să rostească un cuvânt, Eu, Domnul, am amăgit pe prorocul acela; Îmi voi întinde mâna împotriva lui și-l voi nimici din mijlocul poporului Meu Israel. 10 Își vor purta astfel păcatul lor și pedeapsa prorocului va fi la fel cu pedeapsa celui ce întreabă, 11 ca să nu se mai rătăcească*2 Pet. 2:15. de la Mine casa lui Israel și să nu se mai spurce cu toate fărădelegile ei. Atunci vor fi poporul*Cap. 11:20;37:27. Meu, și Eu voi fi Dumnezeul lor»’", zice Domnul Dumnezeu.

12 Cuvântul Domnului mi-a vorbit astfel: 13 „Fiul omului, când va păcătui o țară împotriva Mea, dedându-se la fărădelege, și Îmi voi întinde mâna împotriva ei, dacă îi voi sfărâma toiagul*Lev. 26:26.Is. 3:1. Cap. 4:16;5:16. pâinii, dacă îi voi trimite foametea, dacă îi voi nimici cu desăvârșire oamenii și vitele, 14 chiar de ar fi*Ier. 15:1. Vers. 16,18,20.Ier. 7:16;11:14;14:11. în mijlocul ei acești trei oameni: Noe, Daniel și Iov, ei nu și-ar mântui decât sufletul lor prin neprihănirea*Prov. 11:4. lor", zice Domnul Dumnezeu. 15 „Dacă aș lăsa ca țara să fie cutreierată de fiare sălbatice*Lev. 26:22., care ar lăsa-o fără popor, dacă ar ajunge un pustiu pe unde n-ar mai putea trece nimeni din pricina acestor fiare 16 și ar fi în mijlocul ei acești*Vers. 14,18,20. trei oameni, pe viața Mea", zice Domnul Dumnezeu, „că n-ar scăpa nici fii, nici fiice, ci numai ei ar scăpa, și țara ar ajunge un pustiu. 17 Sau, dacă aș*Lev. 26:25. Cap. 5:12;21:3,4; 29:8; 38:21. aduce sabie împotriva țării acesteia, dacă aș zice să treacă sabia prin țară, dacă i-aș nimici*Cap. 25:13.Ţef. 1:3. cu desăvârșire oamenii și vitele 18 și*Vers. 14. ar fi în mijlocul ei acești trei oameni, pe viața Mea", zice Domnul Dumnezeu, „că n-ar mai scăpa nici fii, nici fiice, ci numai ei singuri ar scăpa. 19 Sau, dacă aș trimite ciuma*2 Sam. 24:15. Cap. 38:22. în țara aceasta, dacă Mi-aș vărsa*Cap. 7:8. urgia împotriva ei prin molimă, ca să-i nimicesc cu desăvârșire oamenii și vitele, 20 și ar fi*Vers. 14. în mijlocul ei Noe, Daniel și Iov, pe viața Mea", zice Domnul Dumnezeu, „că n-ar scăpa nici fii, nici fiice, ci numai ei și-ar mântui sufletul prin neprihănirea lor." 21 Totuși așa vorbește Domnul Dumnezeu: „Măcar că trimit*Cap. 5:17;33:27. împotriva Ierusalimului cele patru pedepse grozave ale mele: sabia, foametea, fiarele sălbatice și ciuma, ca să nimicesc cu desăvârșire din el oamenii și vitele, 22 tot va fi o rămășiță*Cap. 6:8. care va scăpa, care va ieși din el, și anume fii și fiice. Iată, aceștia vor veni la voi, le veți vedea purtarea*Cap. 20:43. și faptele și vă veți mângâia de nenorocirea pe care o aduc asupra Ierusalimului, de tot ce aduc asupra lui. 23 Ei vă vor mângâia când le veți vedea purtarea și faptele și veți cunoaște că nu fără*Ier. 22:8,9. temei fac Eu tot ce fac împotriva Ierusalimului", zice Domnul Dumnezeu.
