1 And it came to pass in the eleventh year, in the third month, on the first of the month, that the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying, 2 Son of man, say unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, and to his multitude: Whom art thou like in thy greatness? 3 Behold, Assyria was a cedar in Lebanon, with fair branches and a shadowing shroud, and of a high stature: and his top was amidst the thick boughs. 4 The waters made him great, the deep set him up on high; its streams ran round about his plantation, and it sent out its rivulets unto all the trees of the field. 5 Therefore his height was exalted above all the trees of the field, and his boughs were multiplied, and his branches became long, because of great waters, when he shot forth. 6 All the fowl of the heavens made their nests in his boughs, and under his branches did all the beasts of the field bring forth their young, and under his shadow dwelt all the great nations. 7 Thus was he fair in his greatness, in the length of his branches: because his root was by great waters. 8 The cedars in the garden of God*GodHebrew: Elohim could not hide him; the cypresses were not like his boughs, and the plane-trees were not as his branches: no tree in the garden of God*GodHebrew: Elohim was like unto him in his beauty. 9 I had made him fair by the multitude of his branches; and all the trees of Eden, that were in the garden of God*GodHebrew: Elohim envied him.

10 Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Because thou hast lifted up thyself in stature, ...and he hath set his top amidst the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height, 11 I have given him into the hand of the mighty one of the nations; he shall surely deal with him: I have driven him out for his wickedness. 12 And strangers, the terrible of the nations, have cut him off and have left him; upon the mountains and in all the valleys his branches are fallen, and his boughs are broken in all the watercourses of the land; and all the peoples of the earth are gone down from his shadow, and have left him. 13 Upon his fallen trunk do all the fowl of the heavens dwell, and all the beasts of the field are upon his branches: 14 to the end that none of all the trees by the waters exalt themselves in their stature, nor set their top amidst the thick boughs, and that none of them that drink water stand up in his height by himself; for they are all given over unto death in the lower parts of the earth, in the midst of the children of men, with them that go down to the pit. 15 Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: In the day when he went down to Sheol, I caused a mourning: I covered the deep for him, and I restrained the floods thereof, and the great waters were stayed; and I made Lebanon black for him, and all the trees of the field fainted for him. 16 I made the nations to shake at the sound of his fall, when I cast him down to Sheol, with them that go down into the pit; and all the trees of Eden, the choice and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, were comforted in the lower parts of the earth. 17 They also went down into Sheol with him unto them that were slain with the sword, and that were his arm, that dwelt under his shadow in the midst of the nations. 18 To whom art thou thus like in glory and in greatness among the trees of Eden? Yet shalt thou be brought down with the trees of Eden, unto the lower parts of the earth; thou shalt lie in the midst of the uncircumcised, with them that are slain by the sword. This is Pharaoh and all his multitude, saith the Lord Jehovah.

1 În anul al unsprezecelea, în ziua întâi a lunii a treia, cuvântul Domnului mi-a vorbit astfel: 2 „Fiul omului, spune lui Faraon, împăratul Egiptului, și mulțimii lui: ‘Cu cine*Vers. 18. te asemeni tu în mărimea ta? 3 Iată*Dan. 4:10. că asirianul era un cedru falnic în Liban; ramurile lui erau stufoase, frunzișul umbros, tulpina înaltă, iar vârful îi ajungea până la nori. 4 Apele*Ier. 51:36. îl făcuseră să crească, adâncul îl făcuse înalt, râurile lui îi scăldau răsadnița și își trimiteau pâraiele la toți copacii de pe câmp. 5 De aceea, tulpina*Dan. 4:11. lui se înălța deasupra tuturor copacilor de pe câmp, crengile i se înmulțiseră și ramurile i se întindeau de mulțimea apelor care-l făcuseră să dea lăstari. 6 Toate păsările*Cap. 17:23.Dan. 4:12. cerului își făceau cuiburi în crengile lui; toate fiarele câmpului fătau sub ramurile lui și tot felul de neamuri multe locuiau sub umbra lui. 7 Era frumos prin mărimea lui, prin întinderea ramurilor lui, căci rădăcinile îi erau înfipte în ape mari. 8 Cedrii din grădina*Gen. 2:8;13:10. Cap. 28:13. lui Dumnezeu nu-l întreceau, chiparoșii nu erau de asemuit cu crengile lui și platanii nu erau ca ramurile lui; niciun copac din grădina lui Dumnezeu nu era ca el în frumusețe. 9 Îl făcusem atât de frumos prin mulțimea crengilor lui, că-l pizmuiau toți copacii Edenului, care se aflau în grădina lui Dumnezeu.’ 10 De aceea, așa vorbește Domnul Dumnezeu: ‘Pentru că avea o tulpină așa de înaltă, pentru că își înălța*Dan. 5:20. vârful până la nori și inima i se mândrea cu înălțimea lui, 11 l-am dat în mâinile viteazului neamurilor, care-i va face după răutatea lui, căci l-am izgonit. 12 Străinii, cele mai grozave*Cap. 28:7. popoare, l-au tăiat și l-au lepădat. Crengile*Cap. 32:5;35:8. i-au căzut în munți și în toate văile. Ramurile i s-au sfărâmat în toate puhoaiele țării și toate popoarele pământului au plecat de la umbra lui și l-au părăsit. 13 Pe sfărâmăturile lui*Is. 18:6. Cap. 32:4. au venit și s-au așezat toate păsările cerului și toate fiarele câmpului și-au făcut culcușul între ramurile lui, 14 ca să nu se mai îngâmfe niciunul din copacii de lângă ape cu înălțimea lor și să nu-și mai ridice vârful până în nori, ca să nu se mai fălească stejarii udați de apă cu înălțimea lor, căci toți*Ps. 82:7. sunt dați pradă morții, în*Cap. 32:18. adâncimile pământului, printre copiii oamenilor, împreună cu cei ce se coboară în groapă.’ 15 Așa vorbește Domnul Dumnezeu: ‘În ziua când s-a coborât în Locuința morților, am răspândit jalea, am acoperit adâncul din pricina lui și i-am oprit râurile; apele cele mari au fost oprite; am întristat Libanul pentru el și toți copacii de pe câmp s-au uscat. 16 De vuietul căderii lui am făcut să se cutremure*Cap. 26:15. neamurile când l-am aruncat*Is. 14:15. în Locuința morților împreună cu cei ce se coboară în groapă și s-au mângâiat*Cap. 32:31. în adâncimile pământului toți*Is. 14:8. copacii Edenului, cei mai frumoși și cei mai buni copaci din Liban, toți cei udați de ape. 17 S-au coborât și ei cu el în Locuința morților, la cei ce au pierit uciși de sabie, ei, care erau brațul lui și locuiau*Plâng. 4:20. la umbra lui printre neamuri. 18 Cu*Vers. 2. Cap. 32:19. cine poți fi asemuit tu în slavă și în mărime între copacii Edenului? Totuși vei fi aruncat împreună cu copacii Edenului în adâncimile pământului și vei fi*Cap. 28:10;32:19. culcat în mijlocul celor netăiați împrejur, împreună cu cei ce au pierit uciși de sabie. Iată ce este Faraon și toată mulțimea lui’, zice Domnul Dumnezeu."
