1 But a certain man, Ananias by name, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, 2 and put aside for himself part of the price, his wife also being privy to it; and having brought a certain part, laid it at the feet of the apostles. 3 But Peter said, Ananias, why has Satan filled thy heart that thou shouldest lie to the Holy Spirit, and put aside for thyself a part of the price of the estate? 4 While it remained did it not remain to thee? and sold, was it not in thine own power? Why is it that thou hast purposed this thing in thine heart? Thou hast not lied to men, but to God. 5 And Ananias, hearing these words, fell down and expired. And great fear came upon all who heard it. 6 And the young men, rising up, swathed him up for burial, and having carried him out, buried him. 7 And it came to pass about three hours afterwards, that his wife, not knowing what had happened, came in. 8 And Peter answered her, Tell me if ye gave the estate for so much? And she said, Yes, for so much. 9 And Peter said to her, Why is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? Lo, the feet of those that have buried thy husband are at the door, and they shall carry thee out. 10 And she fell down immediately at his feet and expired. And when the young men came in they found her dead; and, having carried her out, they buried her by her husband. 11 And great fear came upon all the assembly, and upon all who heard these things.

12 And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders done among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon’s porch, 13 but of the rest durst no man join them, but the people magnified them; 14 and believers were more than ever added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women;) 15 so that they brought out the sick into the streets and put them on beds and couches, that at least the shadow of Peter, when he came, might overshadow some one of them. 16 And the multitude also of the cities round about came together to Jerusalem, bringing sick persons and persons beset by unclean spirits, who were all healed.

17 And the high priest rising up, and all they that were with him, which is the sect of the Sadducees, were filled with wrath, 18 and laid hands on the apostles and put them in the public prison. 19 But an angel of the Lord during the night opened the doors of the prison, and leading them out, said, 20 Go ye and stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life. 21 And when they heard it, they entered very early into the temple and taught. And when the high priest was come, and they that were with him, they called together the council and all the elderhood of the sons of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought. 22 And when the officers were come, they did not find them in the prison; and returned and reported 23 saying, We found the prison shut with all security, and the keepers standing at the doors; but when we had opened them, within we found no one. 24 And when they heard these words, both the priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priests were in perplexity as to them, what this would come to. 25 And some one coming reported to them, Lo, the men whom ye put in the prison are in the temple, standing and teaching the people.

26 Then the captain, having gone with the officers, brought them, not with violence, for they feared the people, lest they should be stoned. 27 And they bring them and set them in the council. And the high priest asked them, 28 saying, We strictly enjoined you not to teach in this name: and lo, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and purpose to bring upon us the blood of this man. 29 But Peter answering, and the apostles, said, God must be obeyed rather than men. 30 The God of our fathers has raised up Jesus, whom ye have slain, having hanged on a cross. 31 Him has God exalted by his right hand as leader and saviour, to give repentance to Israel and remission of sins. 32 And we are his witnesses of these things, and the Holy Spirit also, which God has given to those that obey him. 33 But they, when they heard these things, were cut to the heart, and took counsel to kill them. 34 But a certain man, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law, held in honour of all the people, rose up in the council, and commanded to put the men out for a short while, 35 and said to them, Men of Israel, take heed to yourselves as regards these men what ye are going to do; 36 for before these days Theudas rose up, alleging himself to be somebody, to whom a number of men, about four hundred, were joined; who was slain, and all, as many as obeyed him, were dispersed and came to nothing. 37 After him rose Judas the Galilean in the days of the census, and drew away a number of people after him; and he perished, and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered abroad. 38 And now I say to you, Withdraw from these men and let them alone, for if this counsel or this work have its origin from men, it will be destroyed; 39 but if it be from God, ye will not be able to put them down, lest ye be found also fighters against God. 40 And they listened to his advice; and having called the apostles, they beat them, and enjoined them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and dismissed them. 41 They therefore went their way from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to be dishonoured for the name. 42 And every day, in the temple and in the houses, they ceased not teaching and announcing the glad tidings that Jesus was the Christ.

O mare frică a apucat pe toți cei ce ascultau aceste lucruri. 6 Flăcăii s-au sculat, l-au*Ioan 19:40. învelit, l-au scos afară și l-au îngropat. 7 Cam după trei ceasuri, a intrat și nevastă-sa, fără să știe ce se întâmplase. 8 Petru i-a zis: „Spune-mi, cu atât ați vândut moșioara?" „Da", a răspuns ea, „cu atâta." 9 Atunci, Petru i-a zis: „Cum de v-ați înțeles între voi să*Mat. 4:7. Vers. 3. ispitiți pe Duhul Domnului? Iată picioarele celor ce au îngropat pe bărbatul tău sunt la ușă și te vor lua și pe tine." 10 Ea*Vers. 5. a căzut îndată la picioarele lui și și-a dat sufletul. Când au intrat flăcăii, au găsit-o moartă; au scos-o afară și au îngropat-o lângă bărbatul ei. 11 O*Vers. 5. Cap. 2:43;19:17. mare frică a cuprins toată adunarea și pe toți cei ce au auzit aceste lucruri.

12 Prin*Cap. 2:43;14:3;19:11.Rom. 15:19.2 Cor. 12:12.Evr. 2:4. mâinile apostolilor se făceau multe semne și minuni în norod. Toți*Cap. 3:11;4:32. stăteau împreună în pridvorul lui Solomon 13 și*Ioan 9:22;12:42;19:38. niciunul din ceilalți nu cuteza să se lipească de ei, dar*Cap. 2:47;4:21. norodul îi lăuda în gura mare. 14 Numărul celor ce credeau în Domnul, bărbați și femei, se mărea tot mai mult, 15 până acolo că scoteau pe bolnavi chiar pe ulițe și îi puneau pe paturi și pe așternuturi, pentru ca, atunci când*Mat. 9:21;14:36. Cap. 19:12. va trece Petru, măcar umbra lui să treacă peste vreunul din ei. 16 Mulțimea, de asemenea, alerga la Ierusalim, din cetățile vecine, și aducea pe cei bolnavi și pe cei*Marcu 16:17,18.Ioan 14:12. chinuiți de duhuri necurate: și toți se vindecau.

17 Însă*Cap. 4:1,2,6. marele preot și toți cei ce erau împreună cu el, adică partida saducheilor, s-au sculat plini de pizmă, 18 au*Luca 21:12. pus mâinile pe apostoli și i-au aruncat în temnița de obște. 19 Dar un înger*Cap. 12:7;16:26. al Domnului a deschis ușile temniței, noaptea, i-a scos afară și le-a zis: 20 „Duceți-vă, stați în Templu și vestiți norodului toate*Ioan 6:68;17:3.1 Ioan 5:11. cuvintele vieții acesteia." 21 Când au auzit ei aceste vorbe, au intrat dis-de-dimineață în Templu și au început să învețe pe norod. Marele preot*Cap. 4:5,6.Luca 22:4. și cei ce erau cu el au venit pe neașteptate, au adunat soborul și pe toată bătrânimea fiilor lui Israel și au trimis la temniță să aducă pe apostoli. 22 Aprozii, la venirea lor, nu i-au găsit în temniță. S-au întors și au spus astfel: 23 „Temnița am găsit-o încuiată cu toată grija, și pe păzitori stând în picioare la uși, dar, când am deschis, n-am găsit pe nimeni înăuntru." 24 Când au auzit aceste vorbe, căpitanul*Cap. 4:1. Templului și preoții cei mai de seamă au rămas înmărmuriți și nu știau ce să creadă despre apostoli și despre urmările acestei întâmplări. 25 Cineva a venit și le-a spus: „Iată că oamenii pe care i-ați băgat în temniță stau în Templu și învață pe norod." 26 Atunci, căpitanul Templului a plecat cu aprozii și i-au adus, dar nu cu sila, căci*Mat. 21:26. se temeau să nu fie uciși cu pietre de norod. 27 După ce i-au adus, i-au pus înaintea soborului. Și marele preot i-a întrebat astfel: 28 „Nu*Cap. 4:18. v-am poruncit noi cu tot dinadinsul să nu învățați pe norod în Numele acesta? Și voi iată că ați umplut Ierusalimul cu învățătura voastră și căutați*Cap. 2:23,36;3:15;7:52. să aruncați asupra noastră sângele*Mat. 23:35;27:25. acelui om." 29 Petru și apostolii ceilalți, drept răspuns, i-au zis: „Trebuie*Cap. 4:19. să ascultăm mai mult de Dumnezeu decât de oameni! 30 Dumnezeul*Cap. 3:13,15;22:14. părinților noștri a înviat pe Isus, pe care voi L-ați omorât, atârnându-L*Cap. 10:39;13:29.Gal. 3:13.1 Pet. 2:24. pe lemn. 31 Pe acest*Cap. 2:33,36.Filip. 2:9.Evr. 2:10;12:2. Isus, Dumnezeu L-a înălțat cu puterea Lui și L-a făcut Domn*Cap. 3:15. și Mântuitor*Mat. 1:21., ca să*Luca 24:47. Cap. 3:26; 13:38.Efes. 1:7.Col. 1:14. dea lui Israel pocăința și iertarea păcatelor. 32 Noi*Ioan 15:26,27. suntem martori ai acestor lucruri, ca și Duhul Sfânt, pe*Cap. 2:4;10:44. care L-a dat Dumnezeu celor ce ascultă de El."

33 Când*Cap. 2:37;7:54. au auzit ei aceste vorbe, îi tăia la inimă și s-au sfătuit să-i omoare. 34 Dar un fariseu numit Gamaliel*Cap. 22:3., un învățător al Legii prețuit de tot norodul, s-a sculat în picioare în sobor și a poruncit să scoată puțin afară pe apostoli. 35 Apoi le-a zis: „Bărbați israeliți, luați seama bine ce aveți de gând să faceți oamenilor acestora. 36 Căci nu de mult s-a ivit Teuda, care zicea că el este ceva și la care s-au alipit aproape patru sute de bărbați. El a fost omorât, și toți cei ce îl urmaseră au fost risipiți și nimiciți. 37 După el s-a ivit Iuda Galileeanul, pe vremea înscrierii, și a tras mult norod de partea lui: a pierit și el, și toți cei ce-l urmaseră au fost risipiți. 38 Și acum, eu vă spun: Nu mai necăjiți pe oamenii aceștia și lăsați-i în pace! Dacă*Prov. 21:30.Is. 8:10.Mat. 15:13. încercarea sau lucrarea aceasta este de la oameni, se va nimici; 39 dar*Luca 21:15.1 Cor. 1:25., dacă este de la Dumnezeu, n-o veți putea nimici. Să nu vă pomeniți că luptați*Cap. 7:51;9:5;23:9. împotriva lui Dumnezeu." 40 Ei au ascultat de el. Și, după ce au chemat*Cap. 4:18. pe apostoli, au pus să-i bată*Mat. 10:17;23:34.Marcu 13:9. cu nuiele, i-au oprit să vorbească în Numele lui Isus și le-au dat drumul. 41 Ei au plecat dinaintea soborului și s-au bucurat*Mat. 5:12.Rom. 5:3.2 Cor. 12:10.Filip. 1:29.Evr. 10:34.Iac. 1:2.1 Pet. 4:13,16. că au fost învredniciți să fie batjocoriți pentru Numele Lui. 42 Și în fiecare zi, în*Cap. 2:46. Templu și acasă, nu încetau*Cap. 4:20,29. să învețe pe oameni și să vestească Evanghelia lui Isus Hristos.
