1 And after these things, having left Athens, he came to Corinth; 2 and finding a certain Jew by name Aquila, of Pontus by race, just come from Italy, and Priscilla his wife, (because Claudius had ordered all the Jews to leave Rome,) came to them, 3 and because they were of the same trade abode with them, and wrought. For they were tent-makers by trade. 4 And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded Jews and Greeks. 5 And when both Silas and Timotheus came down from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in respect of the word, testifying to the Jews that Jesus was the Christ. 6 But as they opposed and spoke injuriously, he shook his clothes, and said to them, Your blood be upon your own head: Iam pure; from henceforth I will go to the nations.

7 And departing thence he came to the house of a certain man, by name Justus, who worshipped God, whose house adjoined the synagogue. 8 But Crispus the ruler of the synagogue believed in the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing, believed, and were baptised. 9 And the Lord said by vision in the night to Paul, Fear not, but speak and be not silent; 10 because I am with thee, and no one shall set upon thee to injure thee; because I have much people in this city. 11 And he remained there a year and six months, teaching among them the word of God.

12 But when Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews with one consent rose against Paul and led him to the judgment-seat, 13 saying, This man persuades men to worship God contrary to the law. 14 But as Paul was going to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, If indeed it was some wrong or wicked criminality, O Jews, of reason I should have borne with you; 15 but if it be questions about words, and names, and the law that ye have, see to it yourselves; forI do not intend to be judge of these things. 16 And he drove them from the judgment-seat. 17 And having all laid hold on Sosthenes the ruler of the synagogue, they beat him before the judgment-seat. And Gallio troubled himself about none of these things.

18 And Paul, having yet stayed there many days, took leave of the brethren and sailed thence to Syria, and with him Priscilla and Aquila, having shorn his head in Cenchrea, for he had a vow; 19 and he arrived at Ephesus, and left them there. But entering himself into the synagogue he reasoned with the Jews. 20 And when they asked him that he would remain for a longer time with them he did not accede, 21 but bade them farewell, saying, I must by all means keep the coming feast at Jerusalem; I will return to you again, if God will: and he sailed away from Ephesus. 22 And landing at Caesarea, and having gone up and saluted the assembly, he went down to Antioch. 23 And having stayed there some time, he went forth, passing in order through the country of Galatia and Phrygia, establishing all the disciples.

24 But a certain Jew, Apollos by name, an Alexandrian by race, an eloquent man, who was mighty in the scriptures, arrived at Ephesus. 25 He was instructed in the way of the Lord, and being fervent in his spirit, he spoke and taught exactly the things concerning Jesus, knowing only the baptism of John. 26 And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue. And Aquila and Priscilla, having heard him, took him to them and unfolded to him the way of God more exactly. 27 And when he purposed to go into Achaia, the brethren wrote to the disciples engaging them to receive him, who, being come, contributed much to those who believed through grace. 28 For he with great force convinced the Jews publicly, shewing by the scriptures that Jesus was the Christ.

Sila și Timotei din Macedonia, Pavel s-a*Iov 32:18. Cap. 17:3. Vers. 28. dedat în totul propovăduirii și dovedea iudeilor că Isus este Hristosul. 6 Fiindcă iudeii i se împotriveau*Cap. 13:45.1 Pet. 4:4. și-l batjocoreau, Pavel și-a scuturat*Neem. 5:13.Mat. 10:14. Cap. 13:51. hainele și le-a zis: „Sângele*Lev. 20:9,11,12.2 Sam. 1:16.Ezec. 18:13;33:4. vostru să cadă asupra capului vostru; eu*Ezec. 3:18,19;33:9. Cap. 20:26. sunt curat. De acum*Cap. 13:46;28:28. încolo, mă voi duce la neamuri." 7 Și după ce a ieșit de acolo, a intrat în casa unui om temător de Dumnezeu, numit Iust, a cărui casă era vecină cu sinagoga. 8 Dar*1 Cor. 1:14. Crisp, fruntașul sinagogii, a crezut în Domnul împreună cu toată casa lui. Și mulți dintre corinteni, care auziseră pe Pavel, au crezut și ei și au fost botezați. 9 Noaptea, Domnul*Cap. 23:11. a zis lui Pavel într-o vedenie: „Nu te teme, ci vorbește și nu tăcea,10 căci*Ier. 1:18,19.Mat. 28:20.Eu sunt cu tine și nimeni nu va pune mâna pe tine ca să-ți facă rău; vorbește, fiindcă am mult norod în această cetate."11 Aici a rămas un an și șase luni și învăța printre corinteni Cuvântul lui Dumnezeu.

12 Pe când era Galion cârmuitor al Ahaiei, iudeii s-au ridicat cu un gând împotriva lui Pavel, l-au dus înaintea scaunului de judecată 13 și au zis: „Omul acesta ațâță pe oameni să se închine lui Dumnezeu într-un fel care este împotriva Legii." 14 Pavel voia să înceapă vorba, când Galion a zis iudeilor: „Dacă*Cap. 23:29;25:11,19. ar fi vorba de vreo faptă rea sau de vreo blestemăție, v-aș asculta după cuviință, iudeilor! 15 Dar, dacă este vorba de neînțelegeri asupra unui cuvânt, asupra unor nume și asupra Legii voastre, treaba voastră; eu nu vreau să fiu judecător peste aceste lucruri." 16 Și i-a alungat de la scaunul de judecată. 17 Atunci, au pus toți mâna pe Sosten*1 Cor. 1:1., fruntașul sinagogii, și-l băteau înaintea scaunului de judecată, fără ca lui Galion să-i pese.

18 Pavel a mai rămas destul de multă vreme în Corint. În urmă, și-a luat ziua bună de la frați și a plecat cu corabia spre Siria, împreună cu Priscila și Aquila, după ce și-a tuns*Num. 6:18. Cap. 21:24. capul în Chencrea*Rom. 16:1., căci făcuse o juruință. 19 Au ajuns în Efes; și Pavel a lăsat acolo pe însoțitorii lui. A intrat în sinagogă și a stat de vorbă cu iudeii, 20 care l-au rugat să rămână la ei mai multă vreme. El însă n-a voit, 21 ci și-a luat rămas-bun de la ei și a zis: „Trebuie*Cap. 19:21;20:16. numaidecât ca sărbătoarea care vine s-o fac în Ierusalim. Dacă*1 Cor. 4:19.Evr. 6:3.Iac. 4:15. va voi Dumnezeu, mă voi întoarce iarăși la voi." Și a plecat din Efes. 22 S-a dat jos din corabie în Cezareea, s-a suit la Ierusalim și, după ce a urat de bine Bisericii, s-a coborât în Antiohia.

23 După ce a petrecut câtăva vreme în Antiohia, Pavel a plecat și a străbătut din loc în loc ținutul Galatiei*Gal. 1:2;4:14. și Frigiei, întărind*Cap. 14:22;15:32,41. pe toți ucenicii. 24 La Efes, a venit un iudeu numit Apolo, de neam din Alexandria. Omul acesta avea darul vorbirii și era tare în Scripturi. 25 El era învățat în ce privește Calea Domnului, avea un duh înfocat*Rom. 12:11. și vorbea și învăța amănunțit pe oameni despre Isus, măcar că nu cunoștea*Cap. 19:3. decât botezul lui Ioan. 26 A început a vorbi cu îndrăzneală în sinagogă. Aquila și Priscila, când l-au auzit, l-au luat la ei și i-au arătat mai cu de-amănuntul Calea lui Dumnezeu. 27 Fiindcă el voia să treacă în Ahaia, frații l-au îmbărbătat să se ducă și au scris ucenicilor să-l primească bine. Când a ajuns, a*1 Cor. 3:6. ajutat mult, prin harul lui Dumnezeu, pe cei ce crezuseră, 28 căci înfrunta cu putere pe iudei înaintea norodului și le dovedea*Cap. 9:22;17:3. Vers. 5. din Scripturi că Isus este Hristosul.
