1 And certain persons, having come down from Judaea, taught the brethren, If ye shall not have been circumcised according to the custom of Moses, ye cannot be saved. 2 A commotion therefore having taken place, and no small discussion on the part of Paul and Barnabas against them, they arranged that Paul and Barnabas, and certain others from amongst them, should go up to Jerusalem to the apostles and elders about this question. 3 They therefore, having been set on their way by the assembly, passed through Phoenicia and Samaria, relating the conversion of those of the nations. And they caused great joy to all the brethren. 4 And being arrived at Jerusalem, they were received by the assembly, and the apostles, and the elders, and related all that God had wrought with them. 5 And some of those who were of the sect of the Pharisees, who believed, rose up from among them, saying that they ought to circumcise them and enjoin them to keep the law of Moses.

6 And the apostles and the elders were gathered together to see about this matter. 7 And much discussion having taken place, Peter, standing up, said to them, Brethren, ye know that from the earliest days God amongst you chose that the nations by my mouth should hear the word of the glad tidings and believe. 8 And the heart-knowing God bore them witness, giving them the Holy Spirit as to us also, 9 and put no difference between us and them, having purified their hearts by faith. 10 Now therefore why tempt ye God, by putting a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear? 11 But we believe that we shall be saved by the grace of the Lord Jesus, in the same manner as they also. 12 And all the multitude kept silence and listened to Barnabas and Paul relating all the signs and wonders which God had wrought among the nations by them. 13 And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Brethren, listen to me: 14 Simon has related how God first visited to take out of the nations a people for his name. 15 And with this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written: 16 After these things I will return, and will rebuild the tabernacle of David which is fallen, and will rebuild its ruins, and will set it up, 17 so that the residue of men may seek out the Lord, and all the nations on whom my name is invoked, saith the Lord, who does these things 18 known from eternity. 19 Wherefore I judge, not to trouble those who from the nations turn to God; 20 but to write to them to abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from what is strangled, and from blood. 21 For Moses, from generations of old, has in every city those who preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath.

22 Then it seemed good to the apostles and to the elders, with the whole assembly, to send chosen men from among them with Paul and Barnabas to Antioch, Judas called Barsabas and Silas, leading men among the brethren, 23 having by their hand written thus: The apostles, and the elders, and the brethren, to the brethren who are from among the nations at Antioch, and in Syria and Cilicia, greeting: 24 Inasmuch as we have heard that some who went out from amongst us have troubled you by words, upsetting your souls, saying that ye must be circumcised and keep the law; to whom we gave no commandment; 25 it seemed good to us, having arrived at a common judgment, to send chosen men to you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, 26 men who have given up their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. 27 We have therefore sent Judas and Silas, who themselves also will tell you by word of mouth the same things. 28 For it has seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things: 29 to abstain from things sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from what is strangled, and from fornication; keeping yourselves from which ye will do well. Farewell. 30 They therefore, being let go, came to Antioch, and having gathered the multitude delivered to them the epistle. 31 And having read it, they rejoiced at the consolation. 32 And Judas and Silas, being themselves also prophets, exhorted the brethren with much discourse, and strengthened them. 33 And having passed some time there, they were let go in peace from the brethren to those who sent them. 34 *Ver. 34 of A.V. is not in the best MSS.35 And Paul and Barnabas stayed in Antioch, teaching and announcing the glad tidings, with many others also, of the word of the Lord.

36 But after certain days Paul said to Barnabas, Let us return now and visit the brethren in every city where we have announced the word of the Lord, and see how they are getting on. 37 And Barnabas proposed to take with them John also, called Mark; 38 but Paul thought it not well to take with them him who had abandoned them, going back from Pamphylia, and had not gone with them to the work. 39 There arose therefore very warm feeling, so that they separated from one another; and Barnabas taking Mark sailed away to Cyprus; 40 but Paul having chosen Silas went forth, committed by the brethren to the grace of God. 41 And he passed through Syria and Cilicia, confirming the assemblies.

„Fraților*Cap. 10:20;11:12., știți că Dumnezeu, de o bună bucată de vreme, a făcut o alegere între voi, ca, prin gura mea, neamurile să audă cuvântul Evangheliei și să creadă. 8 Și Dumnezeu, care cunoaște*1 Cron. 28:9. Cap. 1:24. inimile, a mărturisit pentru ei și le-a dat*Cap. 10:44. Duhul Sfânt ca și nouă. 9 N-a făcut nicio*Rom. 10:11. deosebire între noi și ei, întrucât le-a curățit*Cap. 10:15,28,43.1 Cor. 1:2.1 Pet. 1:22. inimile prin credință. 10 Acum dar, de ce ispitiți pe Dumnezeu și*Mat. 23:4.Gal. 5:1. puneți pe grumazul ucenicilor un jug pe care nici părinții noștri, nici noi nu l-am putut purta? 11 Ci credem*Rom. 3:24.Efes. 2:8.Tit 2:11;3:4,5. că noi, ca și ei, suntem mântuiți prin harul Domnului Isus." 12 Toată adunarea a tăcut*Cap. 14:27. și a ascultat pe Barnaba și pe Pavel, care au istorisit toate semnele și minunile pe care le făcuse Dumnezeu prin ei în mijlocul neamurilor.

13 Când au încetat ei de vorbit, Iacov a*Cap. 12:17. luat cuvântul și a zis:

„Fraților, ascultați-mă! 14 Simon*Vers. 7. a spus cum mai întâi Dumnezeu Și-a aruncat privirile peste neamuri, ca să aleagă din mijlocul lor un popor care să-I poarte Numele. 15 Și cu faptul acesta se potrivesc cuvintele prorocilor, după cum este scris: 16 ‘«După*Amos 9:11,12. aceea, Mă voi întoarce și voi ridica din nou cortul lui David din prăbușirea lui, îi voi zidi dărâmăturile și-l voi înălța din nou, 17 pentru ca rămășița de oameni să caute pe Domnul, ca și toate neamurile peste care este chemat Numele Meu», 18 zice Domnul, care face aceste lucruri și căruia Îi sunt cunoscute din veșnicie.’ 19 De aceea, eu*Vers. 28. sunt de părere să nu se pună greutăți acelora dintre neamuri care se*1 Tes. 1:9. întorc la Dumnezeu, 20 ci să li se scrie doar să se ferească de*Gen. 35:2.Exod 20:3,23.Ezec. 20:30.1 Cor. 8:1;10:20,28.Apoc. 2:14,20. pângăririle idolilor, de*1 Cor. 6:9,18.Gal. 5:19.Efes. 5:3.Col. 3:5.1 Tes. 4:3.1 Pet. 4:3. curvie, de dobitoace sugrumate și*Gen. 9:4.Lev. 3:17.Deut. 12:16,23. de sânge. 21 Căci încă din vechime, Moise are în fiecare cetate oameni care-l propovăduiesc, fiindcă este citit*Cap. 13:15,27. în sinagogi în toate zilele de Sabat." 22 Atunci, apostolii și prezbiterii*15:22 Sau: bătrânii. și întreaga Biserică au găsit cu cale să aleagă vreo câțiva dintre ei și să-i trimită la Antiohia, împreună cu Pavel și Barnaba. Și au ales pe Iuda, zis și Barsaba*Cap. 1:23., și pe Sila, oameni cu vază între frați. 23 Și au scris astfel prin ei: „Apostolii, prezbiteriiși frații: către frații dintre neamuri, care sunt în Antiohia, în Siria și în Cilicia, plecăciune! 24 Fiindcă am auzit că unii*Vers. 1.Gal. 2:4;5:12.Tit 1:10,11., plecați dintre noi fără vreo însărcinare din partea noastră, v-au tulburat prin vorbirile lor și v-au zdruncinat sufletele, zicând să vă tăiați împrejur și să păziți Legea, 25 noi, după ce ne-am adunat cu toții laolaltă, cu un gând, am găsit cu cale să alegem niște oameni și să-i trimitem la voi, împreună cu preaiubiții noștri Barnaba și Pavel, 26 oamenii*Cap. 13:50;14:19.1 Cor. 15:30.2 Cor. 11:13,26. aceștia care și-au pus în joc viața pentru Numele Domnului nostru Isus Hristos. 27 Am trimis dar pe Iuda și pe Sila, care vă vor spune, prin viu grai, aceleași lucruri. 28 Căci s-a părut nimerit Duhului Sfânt și nouă să nu mai punem peste voi nicio altă greutate decât ceea ce trebuie, 29 adică să*Vers. 20. Cap. 21:25.Apoc. 2:14,20. vă feriți de lucrurile jertfite idolilor, de sânge*Lev. 17:14., de dobitoace sugrumate și de curvie, lucruri de care, dacă vă veți păzi, va fi bine de voi. Fiți sănătoși."

30 Ei deci și-au luat rămas-bun de la Biserică și s-au dus la Antiohia, unde au dat epistola mulțimii adunate. 31 După ce au citit-o, frații s-au bucurat de îmbărbătarea pe care le-o aducea. 32 Iuda și Sila, care și ei erau proroci, au*Cap. 14:22;18:23. îndemnat pe frați și i-au întărit cu multe cuvinte. 33 După câtăva vreme, frații i-au*1 Cor. 16:11.Evr. 11:31. lăsat să se întoarcă în pace la aceia de care fuseseră trimiși. 34 Totuși Sila a găsit cu cale să rămână acolo. 35 Pavel*Cap. 13:1. și Barnaba au rămas în Antiohia și învățau pe norod și propovăduiau, cu mulți alții, Cuvântul Domnului.

36 După câteva zile, Pavel a zis lui Barnaba: „Să ne întoarcem și să mergem pe la frații din*Cap. 13:4,13,14,51;14:1,6,24,25. toate cetățile în care am vestit Cuvântul Domnului, ca să vedem ce mai fac." 37 Barnaba voia să ia cu el și pe Ioan*Cap. 12:12,25;13:5.Col. 4:10.2 Tim. 4:11.Filim. 24., numit Marcu, 38 dar Pavel socotea că nu este bine să ia cu ei pe acela care îi*Cap. 13:13. părăsise din Pamfilia și nu-i însoțise în lucrarea lor. 39 Neînțelegerea aceasta a fost destul de mare, ca să-i facă să se despartă unul de altul. Barnaba a luat cu el pe Marcu și a plecat cu corabia la Cipru. 40 Pavel și-a ales pe Sila și a plecat după ce a fost încredințat*Cap. 14:26. de frați în grija harului Domnului. 41 El a străbătut Siria și Cilicia, întărind*Cap. 16:5. Bisericile.
