1 And all the tax-gatherers and the sinners were coming near to him to hear him; 2 and the Pharisees and the scribes murmured, saying, This man receives sinners and eats with them. 3 And he spoke to them this parable, saying, 4 What man of you having a hundred sheep, and having lost one of them, does not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness and go after that which is lost, until he find it? 5 and having found it, he lays it upon his own shoulders, rejoicing; 6 and being come to the house, calls together the friends and the neighbours, saying to them, Rejoice with me, for I have found my lost sheep. 7 I say unto you, that thus there shall be joy in heaven for one repenting sinner, more than for ninety and nine righteous who have no need of repentance. 8 Or, what woman having ten drachmas, if she lose one drachma, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and seek carefully till she find it? 9 and having found it she calls together the friends and neighbours, saying, Rejoice with me, for I have found the drachma which I had lost. 10 Thus, I say unto you, there is joy before the angels of God for one repenting sinner.

11 And he said, A certain man had two sons; 12 and the younger of them said to his father, Father, give to me the share of the property that falls to me. And he divided to them what he was possessed of. 13 And after not many days the younger son gathering all together went away into a country a long way off, and there dissipated his property, living in debauchery. 14 But when he had spent all there arose a violent famine throughout that country, and he began to be in want. 15 And he went and joined himself to one of the citizens of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. 16 And he longed to fill his belly with the husks which the swine were eating; and no one gave to him. 17 And coming to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have abundance of bread, and I perish here by famine. 18 I will rise up and go to my father, and I will say to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and before thee; 19 I am no longer worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants. 20 And he rose up and went to his own father. But while he was yet a long way off, his father saw him, and was moved with compassion, and ran, and fell upon his neck, and covered him with kisses. 21 And the son said to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and before thee; I am no longer worthy to be called thy son. 22 But the father said to his bondmen, Bring out the best robe and clothe him in it, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet; 23 and bring the fatted calf and kill it, and let us eat and make merry: 24 for this my son was dead and has come to life, was lost and has been found. And they began to make merry. 25 And his elder son was in the field; and as, coming up, he drew nigh to the house, he heard music and dancing. 26 And having called one of the servants, he inquired what these things might be. 27 And he said to him, Thy brother is come, and thy father has killed the fatted calf because he has received him safe and well. 28 But he became angry and would not go in. And his father went out and besought him. 29 But he answering said to his father, Behold, so many years I serve thee, and never have I transgressed a commandment of thine; and to me hast thou never given a kid that I might make merry with my friends: 30 but when this thy son, who has devoured thy substance with harlots, is come, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf. 31 But he said to him, Child, thou art ever with me, and all that is mine is thine. 32 But it was right to make merry and rejoice, because this thy brother was dead and has come to life again, and was lost and has been found.

1 Toți vameșii și păcătoșii se apropiau*Mat. 9:10. de Isus ca să-L asculte. 2 Și fariseii, și cărturarii cârteau și ziceau: „Omul acesta primește pe păcătoși și*Fapte 11:3.Gal. 2:12. mănâncă cu ei." 3 Dar El le-a spus pilda aceasta: 4 „Care*Mat. 18:12.om dintre voi, dacă are o sută de oi și pierde pe una din ele, nu lasă pe celelalte nouăzeci și nouă pe islaz și se duce după cea*1 Pet. 2:10,25.pierdută, până când o găsește?5 După ce a găsit-o, o pune cu bucurie pe umeri6 și, când se întoarce acasă, cheamă pe prietenii și vecinii săi și le zice: ‘Bucurați-vă împreună cu mine, căci mi-am găsit oaia care era pierdută.’7 Tot așa, vă spun că va fi mai*Cap. 5:32.multă bucurie în cer pentru un singur păcătos care se pocăiește, decât pentru nouăzeci și nouă de oameni neprihăniți, care n-au nevoie de pocăință.8 Sau care femeie, dacă are zece lei*15:8 Grecește: drahme.de argint și pierde unul din ei, nu aprinde o lumină, nu mătură casa și nu caută cu băgare de seamă până când îl găsește?9 După ce l-a găsit, cheamă pe prietenele și vecinele ei și zice: ‘Bucurați-vă împreună cu mine, căci am găsit leul pe care-l pierdusem.’10 Tot așa, vă spun că este bucurie înaintea îngerilor lui Dumnezeu pentru un singur păcătos care se pocăiește."

11 El a mai zis: „Un om avea doi fii.12 Cel mai tânăr din ei a zis tatălui său: ‘Tată, dă-mi partea de avere ce mi se cuvine.’ Și tatăl le-a împărțit averea.13 Nu după multe zile, fiul cel mai tânăr a strâns totul și a plecat într-o țară depărtată, unde și-a risipit averea*Marcu 12:44., ducând o viață destrăbălată.14 După ce a cheltuit totul, a venit o foamete mare în țara aceea, și el a început să ducă lipsă.15 Atunci, s-a dus și s-a lipit de unul din locuitorii țării aceleia, care l-a trimis pe ogoarele lui să-i păzească porcii.16 Mult ar fi dorit el să se sature cu roșcovele pe care le mâncau porcii, dar nu i le dădea nimeni.17 Și-a venit în fire și a zis: ‘Câți argați ai tatălui meu au belșug de pâine, iar eu mor de foame aici!18 Mă voi scula, mă voi duce la tatăl meu și-i voi zice: «Tată, am păcătuit împotriva cerului și împotriva ta19 și nu mai sunt vrednic să mă chem fiul tău; fă-mă ca pe unul din argații tăi.»’20 Și s-a sculat și a plecat la tatăl său. Când era încă*Fapte 2:39.Efes. 2:13,17.departe, tatăl său l-a văzut și i s-a făcut milă de el, a alergat de a căzut pe grumazul lui și l-a sărutat mult.21 Fiul i-a zis: ‘Tată, am păcătuit împotriva cerului și*Ps. 51:4.împotriva ta, nu mai sunt vrednic să mă chem fiul tău.’22 Dar tatăl a zis robilor săi: ‘Aduceți repede haina cea mai bună și îmbrăcați-l cu ea; puneți-i un inel în deget și încălțăminte în picioare.23 Aduceți vițelul cel îngrășat și tăiați-l. Să mâncăm și să ne veselim,24 căci*Vers. 32.Efes. 2:1;5:14.Apoc. 3:1.acest fiu al meu era mort și a înviat; era pierdut și a fost găsit.’ Și au început să se veselească.25 Fiul cel mai mare era la ogor. Când a venit și s-a apropiat de casă, a auzit muzică și jocuri.26 A chemat pe unul din robi și a început să-l întrebe ce este.27 Robul acela i-a răspuns: ‘Fratele tău a venit înapoi și tatăl tău a tăiat vițelul cel îngrășat, pentru că l-a găsit iarăși sănătos și bine.’28 El s-a întărâtat de mânie și nu voia să intre în casă. Tatăl său a ieșit afară și l-a rugat să intre.29 Dar el, drept răspuns, a zis tatălui său: ‘Iată, eu îți slujesc ca un rob de atâția ani și niciodată nu ți-am călcat porunca și mie niciodată nu mi-ai dat măcar un ied să mă veselesc cu prietenii mei;30 iar când a venit acest fiu al tău, care ți-a mâncat averea cu femeile desfrânate, i-ai tăiat vițelul cel îngrășat.’31 ‘Fiule’, i-a zis tatăl, ‘tu întotdeauna ești cu mine și tot ce am eu este al tău.32 Dar trebuia să ne veselim și să ne bucurăm, pentru că*Vers. 24.acest frate al tău era mort și a înviat, era pierdut și a fost găsit.’"
