1 And he said also to his disciples, There was a certain rich man who had a steward, and he was accused to him as wasting his goods. 2 And having called him, he said to him, What is this that I hear of thee? give the reckoning of thy stewardship, for thou canst be no longer steward. 3 And the steward said within himself, What shall I do; for my lord is taking the stewardship from me? I am not able to dig; I am ashamed to beg. 4 I know what I will do, that when I shall have been removed from the stewardship I may be received into their houses. 5 And having called to him each one of the debtors of his own lord, he said to the first, How much owest thou to my lord? 6 And he said, A hundred baths of oil. And he said to him, Take thy writing and sit down quickly and write fifty. 7 Then he said to another, And thou, how much dost thou owe? And he said, A hundred cors of wheat. And he says to him, Take thy writing and write eighty. 8 And the lord praised the unrighteous steward because he had done prudently. For the sons of this world are, for their own generation, more prudent than the sons of light. 9 And I say to you, Make to yourselves friends with the mammon of unrighteousness, that when it fails ye may be received into the eternal tabernacles. 10 He that is faithful in the least is faithful also in much; and he that is unrighteous in the least is unrighteous also in much. 11 If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who shall entrust to you the true? 12 and if ye have not been faithful in that which is another’s, who shall give to you your own? 13 No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and will love the other, or he will cleave to the one and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. 14 And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things, and mocked him. 15 And he said to them, Ye are they who justify themselves before men, but God knows your hearts; for what amongst men is highly thought of is an abomination before God. 16 The law and the prophets were until John: from that time the glad tidings of the kingdom of God are announced, and every one forces his way into it. 17 But it is easier that the heaven and the earth should pass away than that one tittle of the law should fail. 18 Every one who puts away his wife and marries another commits adultery; and every one that marries one put away from a husband commits adultery.

19 Now there was a rich man and he was clothed in purple and fine linen, making good cheer in splendour every day. 20 And there was a poor man, by name Lazarus, who was laid at his gateway full of sores, 21 and desiring to be filled with the crumbs which fell from the table of the rich man; but the dogs also coming licked his sores. 22 And it came to pass that the poor man died, and that he was carried away by the angels into the bosom of Abraham. And the rich man also died and was buried. 23 And in hades lifting up his eyes, being in torments, he sees Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24 And he crying out said, Father Abraham, have compassion on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am suffering in this flame. 25 But Abraham said, Child, recollect that thou hast fully received thy good things in thy lifetime, and likewise Lazarus evil things. But now he is comforted here, and thou art in suffering. 26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm is fixed, so that those who desire to pass hence to you cannot, nor do they who desire to cross from there pass over unto us. 27 And he said, I beseech thee then, father, that thou wouldest send him to the house of my father, 28 for I have five brothers, so that he may earnestly testify to them, that they also may not come to this place of torment. 29 But Abraham says to him, They have Moses and the prophets: let them hear them. 30 But he said, Nay, father Abraham, but if one from the dead should go to them, they will repent. 31 And he said to him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, not even if one rise from among the dead will they be persuaded.

1 Isus a mai spus ucenicilor Săi: „Un om bogat avea un ispravnic, care a fost pârât la el că-i risipește averea.2 El l-a chemat și i-a zis: ‘Ce aud eu vorbindu-se despre tine? Dă-ți socoteală de isprăvnicia ta, pentru că nu mai poți fi ispravnic.’3 Ispravnicul și-a zis: ‘Ce am să fac dacă îmi ia stăpânul isprăvnicia? Să sap, nu pot; să cerșesc, mi-e rușine.4 Știu ce am să fac, pentru ca, atunci când voi fi scos din isprăvnicie, ei să mă primească în casele lor.’5 A chemat pe fiecare din datornicii stăpânului său și a zis celui dintâi: ‘Cât ești dator stăpânului meu?’6 ‘O sută de măsuri de untdelemn’, a răspuns el. Și i-a zis: ‘Ia-ți zapisul și șezi degrabă de scrie cincizeci.’7 Apoi a zis altuia: ‘Dar tu cât ești dator?’ ‘O sută de măsuri de grâu’, a răspuns el. Și i-a zis: ‘Ia-ți zapisul și scrie optzeci.’8 Stăpânul lui a lăudat pe ispravnicul nedrept, pentru că lucrase înțelepțe ște. Cap. 19:17.este credincios în cele mai mici lucruri este credincios și în cele mari și cine este nedrept în cele mai mici lucruri este nedrept și în cele mari.11 Deci, dacă n-ați fost credincioși în bogățiile*16:11 Grecește: Mamona.nedrepte, cine vă va încredința adevăratele bogății?12 Și dacă n-ați fost credincioși în lucrul altuia, cine vă va da ce este al vostru?13 Nicio*Mat. 6:24.slugă nu poate sluji la doi stăpâni; căci sau va urî pe unul și va iubi pe celălalt, sau va ține numai la unul și va nesocoti pe celălalt. Nu puteți sluji lui Dumnezeu și lui Mamona."

14 Fariseii, care*Mat. 23:14. erau iubitori de bani, ascultau și ei toate lucrurile acestea și își băteau joc de El. 15 Isus le-a zis: „Voi căutați să vă arătați*Cap. 10:29.neprihăniți înaintea oamenilor, dar Dumnezeu*Ps. 7:9.vă cunoaște inimile; pentru că ce*1 Sam. 16:7.este înălțat între oameni este o urâciune înaintea lui Dumnezeu.16 Legea*Mat. 4:17;11:12,13. Cap. 7:29.și prorocii au ținut până la Ioan; de atunci încoace, Evanghelia Împărăției lui Dumnezeu se propovăduiește: și fiecare, ca să intre în ea, dă năvală.17 Este*Ps. 102:26,27.Is. 40:8;51:6.Mat. 5:18.1 Pet. 1:25.mai lesne să treacă cerul și pământul decât să cadă o singură frântură de slovă din Lege.18 Oricine*Mat. 5:32;19:9.Marcu 10:11.1 Cor. 7:10,11.își lasă nevasta și ia pe alta de nevastă preacurvește și cine ia de nevastă pe cea lăsată de bărbatul ei preacurvește.

19 Era un om bogat, care se îmbrăca în porfiră și in subțire și în fiecare zi ducea o viață plină de veselie și strălucire.20 La ușa lui, zăcea un sărac numit Lazăr, plin de bube.21 Și dorea mult să se sature cu firimiturile care cădeau de la masa bogatului; până și câinii veneau și-i lingeau bubele.22 Cu vremea, săracul a murit și a fost dus de îngeri în sânul lui Avraam. A murit și bogatul și l-au îngropat.23 Pe când era el în Locuința morților, în chinuri, și-a ridicat ochii în sus, a văzut de departe pe Avraam și pe Lazăr în sânul lui24 și a strigat: ‘Părinte Avraame, fie-ți milă de mine și trimite pe Lazăr să-și înmoaie vârful degetului în apă și să-mi răcorească*Zah. 14:12.limba, căci grozav sunt*Is. 66:24.Marcu 9:44.chinuit în văpaia aceasta.’25 ‘Fiule’, i-a răspuns Avraam, ‘adu-ți*Iov 21:13. Cap. 6:24.aminte că, în viața ta, tu ți-ai luat lucrurile bune, și Lazăr și-a luat pe cele rele; acum, aici, el este mângâiat, iar tu ești chinuit.26 Pe lângă toate acestea, între noi și între voi este o prăpastie mare, așa ca cei ce ar vrea să treacă de aici la voi sau de acolo la noi să nu poată.’27 Bogatul a zis: ‘Rogu-te dar, părinte Avraame, să trimiți pe Lazăr în casa tatălui meu,28 căci am cinci frați, și să le adeverească aceste lucruri, ca să nu vină și ei în acest loc de chin.’29 Avraam a răspuns: ‘Au*Is. 8:20;34:16.Ioan 5:39,45.Fapte 15:21;17:11.pe Moise și pe proroci; să asculte de ei.’30 ‘Nu, părinte Avraame’, a zis el, ‘ci, dacă se va duce la ei cineva din morți, se vor pocăi.’31 Și Avraam i-a răspuns: ‘Dacă nu ascultă pe Moise și pe proroci, nu vor crede nici chiar*Ioan 12:10,11.dacă ar învia cineva din morți.’"
