1 Bel e Nebo, os deuses da Babilônia,

se curvam enquanto são postos no chão.

São transportados em carros de boi,

e os pobres animais tropeçam por causa do peso;

2 tanto os ídolos como seus donos se curvam.

Os deuses não podem proteger o povo,

e o povo não pode proteger os deuses;

vão juntos para o cativeiro.

3 "Ouçam-me, descendentes de Jacó,

todos vocês que restam em Israel.

Eu os carreguei desde que nasceram,

cuidei de vocês desde que estavam no ventre.

4 Serei o seu Deus por toda a sua vida,

até que seus cabelos fiquem brancos.

Eu os criei e cuidarei de vocês,

eu os carregarei e os salvarei.

5 "A quem vocês me compararão?

Que imagem usarão para me representar?

6 Alguns gastam seu ouro e sua prata

e contratam um artesão para lhes fazer um deus;

então se curvam diante dele e o adoram!

7 Levam-no consigo sobre os ombros

e, quando o põem no lugar, ali ele fica;

não pode nem mesmo se mexer!

Quando alguém lhe faz uma oração, ele não responde;

não pode livrar as pessoas de suas aflições.

8 "Não se esqueçam disto; tenham-no em mente!

Lembrem-se bem, ó rebeldes!

9 Lembrem-se do que fiz no passado,

pois somente eu sou Deus;

eu sou Deus, e não há outro semelhante a mim.

10 Só eu posso lhes anunciar, desde já,

o que acontecerá no futuro.

Todos os meus planos se cumprirão,

pois faço tudo que desejo.

11 Chamarei do leste uma ave de rapina veloz,

um líder de uma terra distante,

para que cumpra minhas ordens.

O que eu disse,

isso farei.

12 "Ouça-me, povo teimoso

que está longe da justiça.

13 Pois estou pronto para endireitar as coisas,

não no futuro distante, mas agora!

Estou pronto para salvar Sião

e para mostrar minha glória a Israel."

5 To whom will ye liken me, and make me equal, and compare me, that we may be like? 6 They lavish gold out of the bag, and weigh silver in the balance, and hire a goldsmith; and he maketh it a god: they fall down, yea, they worship. 7 They bear him upon the shoulder, they carry him, and set him in his place, and he standeth; from his place shall he not remove: yea, one shall cry unto him, yet can he not answer, nor save him out of his trouble. 8 Remember this, and shew yourselves men: bring it again to mind, O ye transgressors. 9 Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, 10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure: 11 Calling a ravenous bird from the east, the man that executeth my counsel from a far country: yea, I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it.*46.11 that…: Heb. of my counsel

12 Hearken unto me, ye stouthearted, that are far from righteousness: 13 I bring near my righteousness; it shall not be far off, and my salvation shall not tarry: and I will place salvation in Zion for Israel my glory.
