2 * 64.2 No texto hebraico, os versículos 64.2-12 são numerados 64.1-11. Assim como o fogo faz a lenha queimar

e a água ferver,

tua vinda faria as nações estremecerem;

então seus inimigos entenderiam a razão de tua fama!

3 Quando desceste muito tempo atrás,

realizaste coisas maravilhosas que não esperávamos;

ah, como os montes tremeram diante de ti!

4 Porque desde o começo do mundo,

nenhum ouvido ouviu

e nenhum olho viu um Deus semelhante a ti,

que trabalha em favor dos que nele esperam.

5 Recebes de braços abertos os que praticam a justiça com alegria,

os que seguem teus caminhos.

Mas ficaste muito irado conosco,

pois pecamos constantemente;

como seremos salvos?

6 Estamos todos impuros por causa de nosso pecado;

quando mostramos nossos atos de justiça,

não passam de trapos imundos.

Como as folhas das árvores, murchamos e caímos,

e nossos pecados nos levam embora como o vento.

7 Ainda assim, ninguém invoca teu nome

nem suplica por tua misericórdia.

Por isso te afastaste de nós

e nos entregaste*64.7 Conforme a Septuaginta e as versões siríaca e aramaica; o hebraico traz nos derreteste. a nossos pecados.

8 Apesar de tudo, ó Senhor, és nosso Pai.

Nós somos o barro, e tu és o oleiro;

somos todos formados por tua mão.

9 Não te ires tanto conosco, Senhor,

não te lembres para sempre de nossos pecados.

Pedimos que olhes para nós

e vejas que somos teu povo.

10 Tuas cidades santas estão destruídas;

Sião é um deserto,

sim, Jerusalém é uma ruína desolada.

11 O santo e belo templo,

onde nossos antepassados te louvavam,

foi queimado;

tudo que era precioso foi destruído.

12 Depois disso tudo, Senhor, ainda te recusarás a nos ajudar?

Permanecerás calado e continuarás a nos castigar?

6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. 7 And there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee: for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us, because of our iniquities.*64.7 consumed: Heb. melted*64.7 because: Heb. by the hand 8 But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.

9 Be not wroth very sore, O LORD, neither remember iniquity for ever: behold, see, we beseech thee, we are all thy people. 10 Thy holy cities are a wilderness, Zion is a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation. 11 Our holy and our beautiful house, where our fathers praised thee, is burned up with fire: and all our pleasant things are laid waste. 12 Wilt thou refrain thyself for these things, O LORD? wilt thou hold thy peace, and afflict us very sore?
