1 Då tog Job till orda och sade:

2 Visst är det ni som är folket,

och med er dör visheten ut!

3 *Job 13:2. Men jag har förstånd

likaväl som ni,

jag är inte underlägsen er.

Vem känner inte till detta?

4 *Job 17:6, 30:9, Jer 20:7. Jag har blivit till åtlöje

för min vän,

jag som ropade till Gud

och fick svar.

Den rättfärdige och oskyldige

blir till åtlöje.

5 I den sorglöses tankar

föraktas olyckan,

den står redo för dem

vilkas fötter vacklar.

6 *Job 21:7f, Ps 73:3f, Jer 12:1, Hab 1:11. Rövarna får ha sina tält i fred,

de som trotsar Gud har trygghet,

de som har sin gud i sin hand.

7 Men fråga boskapen,

den ska undervisa dig,

fåglarna under himlen,

de ska ge dig svar.

8 Tala till jorden,

den ska undervisa dig,

fiskarna i havet ska ge dig besked.

9 Vem av dem känner inte till

att det är Herrens hand

som har gjort det?

och varje människas ande.

11 *Job 34:3. Ska inte örat pröva orden

liksom munnen prövar

matens smak?

12 Hos de gamla finns vishet,

långt liv ger förstånd.

hos honom finns råd och förstånd.

14 *Jes 25:2, Upp 3:7. Se, han river ner

och ingen kan bygga upp,

han låser in och ingen kan öppna.

15 *1 Mos 7:11f, 8:1f. Se, han håller vattnen tillbaka

och de torkar ut,

han släpper dem lösa

och de ödelägger landet.

16 Hos honom är kraft och klokhet,

den förvillade och förvillaren

tillhör honom.

17 Rådsherrar för han barfota bort,

och domare gör han till dårar.

18 Han lossar kungars bojor

och binder rep om deras höfter.

19 Präster för han barfota bort

och störtar mäktiga män.

20 Han tystar de betroddas läppar

och tar bort de äldstes insikt.

och lossar bältet på de starka.

och förgör dem,

han vidgar deras gränser

från ledarna för jordens folk

och låter dem irra

i väglös ödemark.

25 De famlar i mörker utan ljus,

han får dem att ragla som druckna.
