2 Lyssna noga på mina ord,

låt det vara trösten ni ger mig.

3 *Ords 18:13. Visa mig tålamod så att jag får tala,

och när jag har talat kan du håna.

4 Är det en människa jag grälar på?

Varför skulle jag inte vara otålig?

5 *Job 29:9. Se på mig och häpna,

sätt handen för munnen.

6 När jag tänker på det

blir jag förskräckt,

rysningar griper min kropp.

7 *Ps 73:3f, Jer 12:1f, Hab 1:13, Mal 3:14f. Varför får de gudlösa leva,

bli gamla och växa i kraft?

8 De ser sina barn leva trygga hos dem

och har sina avkomlingar

för ögonen.

9 Deras hus står trygga utan fasor,

Gud drabbar dem inte med sitt ris.

10 Deras boskap lyckas alltid para sig,

deras kor kalvar utan missfall.

11 *Ps 17:14. Sina minsta släpper de ut

som en hjord,

deras barn dansar omkring.

12 De sjunger till tamburin och harpa

och jublar till musik av flöjt.

13 De lever sina dagar i välmåga,

och i frid far de ner till dödsriket.

14 *Job 22:17. De sade till Gud: "Låt oss vara!

Vi har ingen lust

att lära känna dina vägar.

15 *2 Mos 5:2, Job 34:9, Mal 3:14. Vem är den Allsmäktige

att vi skulle tjäna honom?

Vad skulle vi vinna

på att åkalla honom?"

16 *Job 22:18. Se, deras framgång

ligger inte i deras egen hand.

De gudlösas rådslag

är fjärran från mig.

17 Hur ofta slocknar

de gudlösas lampa?

Hur ofta drabbar dem olycka,

plågor som Gud i vrede

tilldelar dem?

18 *Ps 1:4, 35:5, 83:14, Jes 29:5, Hos 13:3. Hur ofta blir de som halm för vinden,

som agnar som stormen för bort?

19 *2 Mos 20:5. Ni säger:

"Gud sparar hans straff

till barnen."

Låt honom straffa honom själv,

så att han får känna det.

20 *Ps 75:9, Jer 25:15f. Låt den gudlöse få se sitt fall

med egna ögon,

låt honom få dricka

den Allsmäktiges vrede.

21 Frågar han efter sin familj

när han är borta,

när hans månaders antal är slut?

22 *Jes 40:13, Rom 11:34, 1 Kor 2:16. Kan någon lära Gud förstånd,

han som dömer över de högsta?

23 Den ene dör i sin krafts dagar,

helt sorglös och trygg.

24 Hans kärl är fulla av mjölk,

och märgen i hans ben

har bevarat sin saft.

25 Den andre dör med bedrövad själ,

utan att ha smakat det goda.

26 *Job 20:11, Pred 9:2f, Jes 14:11. Tillsammans ligger de i stoftet,

med förruttnelsens maskar

över sig.

27 Se, jag känner era tankar

och era lömska planer mot mig.

28 Ni frågar:

"Vad blev det av stormännens hus,

av tälten där de gudlösa bodde?"

29 Har ni inte frågat dem som har rest,

lyssnar ni inte

till deras vittnesbörd?

30 Den onde skonas på olyckans dag,

han räddas undan vredens dag.

31 Vem säger honom rakt i ansiktet

hur han lever,

vem straffar honom

för vad han har gjort?

32 När han har förts till graven

vakar man vid gravkullen.

33 Dalens mylla är ljuvlig för honom,

alla människor följer honom

och otaliga har gått före honom.

34 *Job 16:2. Hur tom är inte trösten ni ger mig.

Era svar är bara bedrägeri.
