Jó 16

 
1 ¶ Então respondeu Jó, dizendo: Then Job answered and said,
2 Tenho ouvido muitas coisas como estas; todos vós sois consoladores molestos. I have heard many such things: Miserable comforters are ye all.
3 Porventura não terão fim essas palavras de vento? Ou o que te irrita, para assim responderes? Shall vain words have an end? Or what provoketh thee that thou answerest?
4 Falaria eu também como vós falais, se a vossa alma estivesse em lugar da minha alma, ou amontoaria palavras contra vós, e menearia contra vós a minha cabeça? I also could speak as ye do; If your soul were in my soul's stead, I could join words together against you, And shake my head at you.
5 Antes vos fortaleceria com a minha boca, e a consolação dos meus lábios abrandaria a vossa dor. [But] I would strengthen you with my mouth, And the solace of my lips would assuage [your grief].
6 ¶ Se eu falar, a minha dor não cessa, e, calando-me eu, qual é o meu alívio? Though I speak, my grief is not assuaged; And though I forbear, what am I eased?
7 Na verdade, agora tu me tens fatigado; tu assolaste toda a minha companhia, But now he hath made me weary: Thou hast made desolate all my company.
8 Testemunha disto é que já me fizeste enrugado, e a minha magreza já se levanta contra mim, e no meu rosto testifica contra mim. And thou hast laid fast hold on me, [which] is a witness [against me]: And my leanness riseth up against me, It testifieth to my face.
9 Na sua ira me despedaçou, e ele me perseguiu; rangeu os seus dentes contra mim; aguça o meu adversário os seus olhos contra mim. He hath torn me in his wrath, and persecuted me; He hath gnashed upon me with his teeth: Mine adversary sharpeneth his eyes upon me.
10 Abrem a sua boca contra mim; com desprezo me feriram nos queixos, e contra mim se ajuntam todos. They have gaped upon me with their mouth; They have smitten me upon the cheek reproachfully: They gather themselves together against me.
11 Entrega-me Deus ao perverso, e nas mãos dos ímpios me faz cair. God delivereth me to the ungodly, And casteth me into the hands of the wicked.
12 Descansado estava eu, porém ele me quebrantou; e pegou-me pela cerviz, e me despedaçou; também me pôs por seu alvo. I was at ease, and he brake me asunder; Yea, he hath taken me by the neck, and dashed me to pieces: He hath also set me up for his mark.
13 Cercam-me os seus flecheiros; atravessa-me os rins, e não me poupa, e o meu fel derrama sobre a terra, His archers compass me round about; He cleaveth my reins asunder, and doth not spare; He poureth out my gall upon the ground.
14 Fere-me com ferimento sobre ferimento; arremete contra mim como um valente. He breaketh me with breach upon breach; He runneth upon me like a giant.
15 Cosi sobre a minha pele o cilício, e revolvi a minha cabeça no pó. I have sewed sackcloth upon my skin, And have laid my horn in the dust.
16 O meu rosto está todo avermelhado de chorar, e sobre as minhas pálpebras está a sombra da morte: My face is red with weeping, And on my eyelids is the shadow of death;
17 ¶ Apesar de não haver violência nas minhas mãos, e de ser pura a minha oração. Although there is no violence in my hands, And my prayer is pure.
18 Ah! terra, não cubras o meu sangue e não haja lugar para ocultar o meu clamor! O earth, cover not thou my blood, And let my cry have no [resting] -place.
19 Eis que também agora a minha testemunha está no céu, e nas alturas o meu testemunho está. Even now, behold, my witness is in heaven, And he that voucheth for me is on high.
20 Os meus amigos são os que zombam de mim; os meus olhos se desfazem em lágrimas diante de Deus. My friends scoff at me: [But] mine eye poureth out tears unto God,
21 Ah! se alguém pudesse contender com Deus pelo homem, como o homem pelo seu próximo! That he would maintain the right of a man with God, And of a son of man with his neighbor!
22 Porque decorridos poucos anos, eu seguirei o caminho por onde não tornarei. For when a few years are come, I shall go the way whence I shall not return.
