1 And Jehovah spake unto Moses, Depart, go up hence, thou and the people that thou hast brought up out of the land of Egypt, unto the land of which I sware unto Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, Unto thy seed will I give it: 2 and I will send an angel before thee; and I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite: 3 unto a land flowing with milk and honey: for I will not go up in the midst of thee, for thou art a stiffnecked people, lest I consume thee in the way. 4 And when the people heard these evil tidings, they mourned: and no man did put on him his ornaments. 5 And Jehovah said unto Moses, Say unto the children of Israel, Ye are a stiffnecked people; if I go up into the midst of thee for one moment, I shall consume thee: therefore now put off thy ornaments from thee, that I may know what to do unto thee. 6 And the children of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments from mount Horeb onward.

7 Now Moses used to take the tent and to pitch it without the camp, afar off from the camp; and he called it, The tent of meeting. And it came to pass, that every one that sought Jehovah went out unto the tent of meeting, which was without the camp. 8 And it came to pass, when Moses went out unto the Tent, that all the people rose up, and stood, every man at his tent door, and looked after Moses, until he was gone into the Tent. 9 And it came to pass, when Moses entered into the Tent, the pillar of cloud descended, and stood at the door of the Tent: and Jehovah spake with Moses. 10 And all the people saw the pillar of cloud stand at the door of the Tent: and all the people rose up and worshipped, every man at his tent door. 11 And Jehovah spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his minister Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the Tent.

12 And Moses said unto Jehovah, See, thou sayest unto me, Bring up this people: and thou hast not let me know whom thou wilt send with me. Yet thou hast said, I know thee by name, and thou hast also found favor in my sight. 13 Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found favor in thy sight, show me now thy ways, that I may know thee, to the end that I may find favor in thy sight: and consider that this nation is thy people. 14 And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest. 15 And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence. 16 For wherein now shall it be known that I have found favor in thy sight, I and thy people? is it not in that thou goest with us, so that we are separated, I and thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth?

17 And Jehovah said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken; for thou hast found favor in my sight, and I know thee by name. 18 And he said, Show me, I pray thee, thy glory. 19 And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and will proclaim the name of Jehovah before thee; and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy. 20 And he said, Thou canst not see my face; for man shall not see me and live. 21 And Jehovah said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon the rock: 22 and it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a cleft of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand until I have passed by: 23 and I will take away my hand, and thou shalt see my back; but my face shall not be seen.

1 Domnul a zis lui Moise: „Du-te și pornește de aici cu*Cap. 32:7. poporul pe care l-ai scos din țara Egiptului; suie-te în țara pe care am jurat că o voi da lui Avraam, lui Isaac și lui Iacov, zicând: ‘Seminței*Gen. 12:7. Cap. 32:13. tale o voi da!’ 2 Voi*Cap. 32:34;34:11. trimite înaintea ta un înger și voi*Deut. 7:22.Ios. 24:11. izgoni pe canaaniți, amoriți, hetiți, fereziți, heviți și iebusiți. 3 Suie-te în*Cap. 3:8. țara aceasta unde curge lapte și miere. Dar*Vers. 15,17. Eu nu Mă voi sui în mijlocul tău, ca să nu te prăpădesc*Cap. 32:9;34:9.Deut. 9:6,13. pe drum, căci ești un popor*Cap. 23:21;32:10.Num. 16:21,45. încăpățânat." 4 Când a auzit poporul aceste triste cuvinte, toți s-au*Num. 14:1,39. întristat și*Lev. 10:6.2 Sam. 19:24.1 Împ. 21:27.2 Împ. 19:1.Ezra 9:3.Est. 4:1,4.Iov 1:20;2:12.Is. 32:11.Ezec. 24:17,23;26:16. nimeni nu și-a pus podoabele pe el. 5 Și Domnul a zis lui Moise: „Spune copiilor lui Israel: ‘Voi*Vers. 3. sunteți un popor încăpățânat; numai o clipă dacă M-aș sui în*Num. 16:45,46. mijlocul tău, te-aș prăpădi. Aruncă-ți acum podoabele de pe tine, și voi*Deut. 8:2.Ps. 139:23. vedea ce-ți voi face.’" 6 Copiii lui Israel și-au scos de pe ei podoabele și au plecat de la muntele Horeb.

7 Moise a luat cortul lui și l-a*Cap. 29:42,43. întins afară din tabără, la o depărtare oarecare; l-a numit cortul întâlnirii. Și toți cei ce*Deut. 4:29.2 Sam. 21:1. întrebau pe Domnul se duceau la cortul întâlnirii, care era afară din tabără. 8 Când se ducea Moise la cort, tot poporul se scula în picioare; fiecare stătea la*Num. 16:27. ușa cortului său și urmărea cu ochii pe Moise, până intra el în cort. 9 Și când intra Moise în cort, stâlpul de nor se cobora și se oprea la ușa cortului, și Domnul*Cap. 25:22;31:18.Ps. 99:7. vorbea cu Moise. 10 Tot poporul vedea stâlpul de nor oprindu-se la ușa cortului; tot poporul se scula și se arunca*Cap. 4:31. cu fața la pământ la ușa cortului lui. 11 Domnul*Gen. 32:30.Num. 12:8.Deut. 34:10. vorbea cu Moise față în față, cum vorbește un om cu prietenul lui. Apoi, Moise se întorcea în tabără, dar tânărul lui slujitor, Iosua, fiul lui Nun, nu ieșea deloc din mijlocul cortului.

12 Moise a zis Domnului: „Iată*Cap. 32:34., Tu îmi zici: ‘Du pe poporul acesta!’ Și nu-mi arăți pe cine vei trimite cu mine. Însă Tu ai zis: ‘Eu*Vers. 17.Gen. 18:19.Ps. 1:6.Ier. 1:5.Ioan 10:14,15.2 Tim. 2:19. te cunosc pe nume și ai căpătat trecere înaintea Mea!’ 13 Acum, dacă*Cap. 34:9. am căpătat trecere înaintea Ta, arată-mi*Ps. 25:4;27:11;86:11;119:33. căile Tale; atunci Te voi cunoaște și voi avea trecere înaintea Ta. Și gândește-Te că neamul acesta este poporul*Deut. 9:26,29.Ioel 2:17. Tău!" 14 Domnul a răspuns: „Voi merge Eu Însumi*Cap. 13:21;40:34-38.Is. 63:9. cu tine și îți voi da*Deut. 3:20.Ios. 21:44;22:4;23:1.Ps. 95:11. odihnă." 15 Moise i-a zis: „Dacă*Vers. 3. Cap. 34:9. nu mergi Tu Însuți cu noi, nu ne lăsa să plecăm de aici. 16 Cum se va ști că am căpătat trecere înaintea Ta, eu și poporul Tău? Oare nu*Num. 14:14. când vei merge Tu cu noi și când prin aceasta vom fi*Cap. 34:10.Deut. 4:7,34.2 Sam. 7:23.1 Împ. 8:53.Ps. 147:20. deosebiți, eu și poporul Tău, de toate popoarele de pe fața pământului?" 17 Domnul a zis lui Moise: „Voi*Gen. 19:21.Iac. 5:16. face și ceea ce-mi ceri acum, căci ai*Vers. 16. căpătat trecere înaintea Mea și te cunosc pe nume!" 18 Moise a zis: „Arată-mi*Vers. 20.1 Tim. 6:16. slava Ta!" 19 Domnul a răspuns: „Voi*Cap. 34:5-7.Ier. 31:14. face să treacă pe dinaintea ta toată frumusețea Mea și voi chema Numele Domnului înaintea ta; Eu Mă*Rom. 9:15,16,18. îndur de cine vreau să Mă îndur și am milă de cine vreau să am milă!" 20 Domnul a zis: „Fața nu vei putea să Mi-o vezi, căci nu poate*Gen. 32:30.Deut. 5:24.Jud. 6:22;13:22.Is. 6:5.Apoc. 1:16,17. Cap. 24:10. omul să Mă vadă și să trăiască!" 21 Domnul a zis: „Iată un loc lângă Mine; vei sta pe stâncă. 22 Și când va trece slava Mea, te voi pune în*Is. 2:21. crăpătura stâncii și te voi acoperi*Ps. 91:1,4. cu mâna Mea până voi trece. 23 Iar când Îmi voi trage mâna la o parte de la tine, Mă vei vedea pe dinapoi; dar Fața Mea nu*Vers. 20.Ioan 1:18. se poate vedea."
