The Refuge of the Righteous

For the choir director: with the flutes. A psalm of David.

1 Listen to my words, Lord;

consider my sighing.  * 5:1 Ps 38:9

2 Pay attention to the sound of my cry,  * 5:2 Ps 28:2

my King and my God,  * 5:2 Ps 84:3

for I pray to you.

3 In the morning,  * 5:3 Ps 88:13Lord, you hear my voice;

in the morning I plead my case to you  * 5:3 Jb 13:18; 23:4; Ps 50:21 and watch expectantly.

4 For you are not a God who delights in wickedness;

evil cannot dwell with you.  * 5:4 Ps 92:15

5 The boastful cannot stand in your sight;  * 5:5 Ps 1:5; 73:3; 75:4

you hate all evildoers.  * 5:5 Jb 8:20; Ps 11:5; 45:7

6 You destroy those who tell lies;  * 5:6 Rv 21:8

the Lord abhors violent and treacherous people.  * 5:6 Ps 55:23

7 But I enter your house

by the abundance of your faithful love;  * 5:7 Ps 69:13; 86:5,15; 106:45; Is 63:7

I bow down toward your holy temple

in reverential awe of you.  * 5:7 Ps 138:2

8 Lord, lead me in your righteousness  * 5:8 Ps 27:11

because of my adversaries;

make your way straight before me.  * 5:8 Pr 4:11

9 For there is nothing reliable in what they say;  * 5:9 Ps 52:2

destruction is within them;

their throat is an open grave;

they flatter with their tongues.  * 5:9 Ps 12:3; Pr 26:28; Rm 3:13

10 Punish them, God;

let them fall by their own schemes.  * 5:10 Ps 9:16; 35:8; 141:10

Drive them out  * 5:10 Mt 13:41–42 because of their many crimes,

for they rebel against you.  * 5:10 Pr 17:11

11 But let all who take refuge in you rejoice;  * 5:11 Ps 2:12; 64:10

let them shout for joy forever.

May you shelter them,  * 5:11 Ps 31:20; 61:4

and may those who love your name boast about you.  * 5:11 Ps 9:2

12 For you, Lord, bless the righteous one;
