1 In the third month after the departure of the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt, the same day came they into the wilderness of Sinai: 2 they departed from Rephidim, and came into the wilderness of Sinai, and encamped in the wilderness; and Israel encamped there before the mountain. 3 And Moses went up to God*GodHebrew: Elohim and Jehovah called to him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel: 4 Ye have seen what I have done to the Egyptians, and how I have borne you on eagles' wings and brought you to myself. 5 And now, if ye will hearken to my voice indeed and keep my covenant, then shall ye be my own possession out of all the peoples — for all the earth is mine — 6 and ye shall be to me a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak to the children of Israel. 7 And Moses came and called the elders of the people, and laid before the mall these words which Jehovah had commanded him. 8 And all the people answered together, and said, All that Jehovah has spoken will we do! And Moses brought the words of the people back to Jehovah.

9 And Jehovah said to Moses, Lo, I will come to thee in the cloud’s thick darkness, that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and believe thee also for ever. And Moses told the words of the people to Jehovah. 10 And Jehovah said to Moses, Go to the people, and hallow them to-day and to-morrow, and let them wash their clothes; 11 and let them be ready for the third day; for on the third day Jehovah will come down before the eyes of all the people on mount Sinai. 12 And set bounds round about the people, saying, Take heed to yourselves, not to go up unto the mountain nor touch the border of it: whatever toucheth the mountain shall certainly be put to death: 13 not a hand shall touch it, but it shall certainly be stoned, or shot through; whether it be a beast or a man, it shall not live. When the long drawn note of the trumpet soundeth, they shall come up to the mountain. 14 And Moses came down from the mountain to the people, and hallowed the people; and they washed their clothes. 15 And he said to the people, Be ready for the third day; do not come near your wives.

16 And it came to pass on the third day, when it was morning, that there were thunders and lightnings and a heavy cloud on the mountain, and the sound of the trumpet exceeding loud; and the whole people that was in the camp trembled. 17 And Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet with God*GodHebrew: Elohim and they stood at the foot of the mountain. 18 And the whole of mount Sinai smoked, because Jehovah descended on it in fire; and its smoke ascended as the smoke of a furnace; and the whole mountain shook greatly. 19 And the sound of the trumpet increased and became exceeding loud; Moses spoke, and God*GodHebrew: Elohim answered him by a voice. 20 And Jehovah came down on mount Sinai, on the top of the mountain; and Jehovah called Moses to the top of the mountain, and Moses went up. 21 And Jehovah said to Moses, Go down, testify to the people that they break not through to Jehovah to gaze, and many of them perish. 22 And the priests also, who come near to Jehovah, shall hallow themselves, lest Jehovah break forth on them. 23 And Moses said to Jehovah, The people cannot come up to mount Sinai; for thou hast testified to us, saying, Set bounds about the mountain, and hallow it. 24 And Jehovah said to him, Go, descend, and thou shalt come up, thou, and Aaron with thee; but the priests and the people shall not break through to go up to Jehovah, lest he break forth on them. 25 So Moses went down to the people, and told them.

Acestea sunt cuvintele pe care le vei spune copiilor lui Israel.’" 7 Moise a venit de a chemat pe bătrânii poporului și le-a pus înainte toate cuvintele acestea, cum îi poruncise Domnul. 8 Tot*Cap. 24:3,7.Deut. 5:27;26:17. poporul a răspuns: „Vom face tot ce a zis Domnul!" Moise a spus Domnului cuvintele poporului. 9 Și Domnul a zis lui Moise: „Iată, voi veni la tine într-un nor*Vers. 16. Cap. 20:21;24:15,16.Deut. 4:11.Ps. 18:11,12;97:2.Mat. 17:5. gros, pentru ca*Deut. 4:12,36.Ioan 12:29,30. să audă poporul când îți voi vorbi și să aibă totdeauna încredere*Cap. 14:31. în tine." Moise a spus Domnului cuvintele poporului.

10 Și Domnul a zis lui Moise: „Du-te la popor, sfințește-i*Lev. 11:44,45.Evr. 10:22. azi și mâine și pune-i să-și spele*Vers. 14.Gen. 35:2.Lev. 15:5. hainele. 11 Să fie gata pentru a treia zi, căci a treia zi Domnul Se*Vers. 16,18. Cap. 34:35.Deut. 33:2. va coborî în fața întregului popor, pe muntele Sinai. 12 Să hotărăști poporului anumite margini de jur împrejur și să spui: ‘Să nu cumva să vă suiți pe munte sau să vă atingeți de poalele lui. Oricine se*Evr. 12:20. va atinge de munte va fi pedepsit cu moartea. 13 Nicio mână să nu se atingă de el, ci pe oricine se va atinge, să-l omoare cu pietre sau să-l străpungă cu săgeți: dobitoc sau om nu va trăi.’ Când va suna trâmbița*Vers. 16,19., ei vor înainta spre munte." 14 Moise s-a coborât de pe munte la popor, a sfințit*Vers. 10. poporul și ei și-au spălat hainele. 15 Și a zis poporului: „Fiți gata*Vers. 11. în trei zile; să nu vă apropiați de vreo*1 Sam. 21:4,5.Zah. 7:3.1 Cor. 7:5. femeie." 16 A treia zi dimineața, au fost*Ps. 77:18.Evr. 12:18,19.Apoc. 4:5;8:5;11:19. tunete, fulgere și un nor*Vers. 9. Cap. 40:34.2 Cron. 5:14. gros pe munte; trâmbița răsuna*Apoc. 1:10;4:1. cu putere și tot poporul din tabără a fost*Evr. 12:21. apucat de spaimă. 17 Moise*Deut. 4:10. a scos poporul din tabără, spre întâmpinarea lui Dumnezeu, și s-au așezat la poalele muntelui. 18 Muntele*Deut. 4:11;33:2.Jud. 5:5.Ps. 68:7,8.Is. 6:4.Hab. 3:3. Sinai era tot numai fum, pentru că Domnul Se coborâse pe el în mijlocul focului*Cap. 3:2;24:17.2 Cron. 7:1-3.. Fumul*Gen. 15:17.Ps. 144:5.Apoc. 15:8. acesta se înălța ca fumul unui cuptor, și tot*Ps. 68:8;77:18;114:7.Ier. 4:24.Evr. 12:26. muntele se cutremura cu putere. 19 Trâmbița răsuna*Vers. 13. tot mai puternic. Moise*Evr. 12:21.Neem. 9:13.Ps. 81:7. vorbea, și Dumnezeu îi răspundea cu glas tare. 20 Domnul S-a coborât pe muntele Sinai, și anume pe vârful muntelui. Domnul a chemat pe Moise pe vârful muntelui. Și Moise s-a suit sus. 21 Domnul a zis lui Moise: „Coboară-te și poruncește poporului cu tot dinadinsul să nu dea buzna spre Domnul, ca*Cap. 3:5.1 Sam. 6:19. să se uite, pentru ca nu cumva să piară un mare număr dintre ei. 22 Preoții care se apropie de Domnul să se sfințească*Lev. 10:3. și ei, ca nu cumva să-i lovească*2 Sam. 6:7,8. Domnul cu moartea." 23 Moise a zis Domnului: „Poporul nu va putea să se suie pe muntele Sinai, căci ne-ai oprit cu tot dinadinsul, zicând: ‘Hotărăște*Vers. 12.Ios. 3:4. anumite margini în jurul muntelui și sfințește-l.’" 24 Domnul i-a zis: „Du-te, coboară-te și suie-te apoi iarăși cu Aaron, dar preoții și poporul să nu dea buzna să se suie la Domnul, ca nu cumva să-i lovească cu moartea." 25 Moise s-a coborât la popor și i-a spus aceste lucruri.
