14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.139:14 Or for I am fearfully set apart
See Ps. 72:18Wonderful are your works;
my soul knows it very well.
16 Your eyes saw my unformed substance;
in your Ps. 56:8book were written, every one of them,
the days that were formed for me,
when as yet there was none of them.
13 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb.
14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.139.14 right…: Heb. greatly
16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.139.16 all…: Heb. all of them139.16 which…: or, what days they should be fashioned
13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
16 Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
13 You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body
and knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!
Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.
16 You saw me before I was born.
Every day of my life was recorded in your book.
Every moment was laid out
before a single day had passed.
13 For You formed my inward parts;
You covered me in my mother’s womb.
14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well.
16 Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed.
And in Your book they all were written,
The days fashioned for me,
When asyettherewere none of them.
13 For You created my innermost parts;
You wove me in my mother’s womb.
14 I will give thanks to You, because 139:14 Some ancient versions You are fearfully wonderfulI am awesomely and wonderfully made;
Wonderful are Your works,
And my soul knows it very well.
16 Your eyes have seen my formless substance;
And in Your book were written
All the days that were ordained for me,
When as yet there was not one of them.
13 For it was you who created my inward parts; 139:13 Lit my kidneys
you knit me together in my mother’s womb. 139:13 Jb 10:11; Ps 119:73
14 I will praise you
because I have been remarkably and wondrously made. 139:14 DSS, some LXX mss, Syr, Jer read because you are remarkable and wonderful, 139:14 Hb obscure
Your works are wondrous,
and I know this very well. 139:14 Ps 40:5
16 Your eyes saw me when I was formless;
all my days were written in your book and planned
before a single one of them began. 139:16 Jb 14:5
13 I know that the Lord will do justice to the needy, and will revenge the poor.
14 But as for the just, they shall give glory to thy name: and the upright shall dwell with thy countenance.
13-16 Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out;
you formed me in my mother’s womb.
I thank you, High God—you’re breathtaking!
Body and soul, I am marvelously made!
I worship in adoration—what a creation!
You know me inside and out,
you know every bone in my body;
You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit,
how I was sculpted from nothing into something.
Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth;
all the stages of my life were spread out before you,
The days of my life all prepared
before I’d even lived one day.
