Psalm 97

The Lord Reigns

1 *See Ps. 93:1The Lord reigns, *Ps. 96:11let the earth rejoice;

let the many *See Ps. 72:10coastlands be glad!

2 *Ex. 19:9;Deut. 4:11;5:22;1 Kgs. 8:12;See Ps. 18:11Clouds and thick darkness are all around him;

*Ps. 89:14righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.

3 *See Ps. 21:9;50:3Fire goes before him

and burns up his adversaries all around.

4 His *Ps. 77:18lightnings light up the world;

the earth sees and *[Ps. 96:9]trembles.

5 The mountains *Nah. 1:5;[Judg. 5:5] melt like *See Ps. 68:2wax before the Lord,

before *Josh. 3:11the Lord of all the earth.

6 *See Ps. 50:6The heavens proclaim his righteousness,

and all *Isa. 40:5;66:18;[Ps. 96:3]the peoples see his glory.

7 All worshipers of images are *Isa. 42:17;44:9put to shame,

who make their boast in *Ps. 96:5worthless idols;

*Heb. 1:6worship him, all you gods!

8 Zion hears and *Ps. 48:11is glad,

and the daughters of Judah rejoice,

because of your judgments, O Lord.

9 For you, O Lord, are *See Ps. 83:18most high over all the earth;

you are exalted far above *See Ps. 95:3all gods.

10 O you who love the Lord, *Prov. 8:13;Amos 5:15;Rom. 12:9;See Ps. 34:14hate evil!

He *Ps. 31:23;37:28;121:4;145:20;Prov. 2:8preserves the lives of his *See Ps. 30:4saints;

he *Dan. 3:28;6:27;Acts 12:11delivers them from the hand of the wicked.
