The Lord Is My Strength and My Shield

1 To you, O Lord, I call;

*See Ps. 18:2my rock, be not deaf to me,

lest, if you *Ps. 35:22;39:12;83:1;109:1be silent to me,

I become like those who *Ps. 88:4;143:7go down to the pit.

2 *Ps. 140:6Hear the voice of my pleas for mercy,

when I cry to you for help,

when I *Ps. 134:2;141:2;Lam. 2:19;1 Tim. 2:8;[Ps. 119:48] lift up my hands

*Ps. 5:7;138:2;[1 Kgs. 8:29]toward your most holy sanctuary.*28:2 Hebrew your innermost sanctuary

3 Do not *[Ps. 26:9;Ezek. 32:20] drag me off with the wicked,

with the workers of evil,

*Jer. 9:8;[Ps. 5:9;12:2;55:21;62:4]who speak peace with their neighbors

while evil is in their hearts.

and according to the evil of their deeds;

give to them according to the work of their hands;

5 Because they *Isa. 5:12;[Job 34:27]do not regard the works of the Lord

or the work of his hands,

he will tear them down and build them up no more.

6 Blessed be the Lord!

in him my heart *See Ps. 11:1trusts, and I am helped;

my heart exults,
