Ascribe to the Lord Glory
A Psalm of David.
1 Ascribe to the Lord, O heavenly beings,29:1 Hebrew sons of God, or sons of might
Ps. 96:7,8;1 Chr. 16:28,29;[Ps. 68:34]ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
2 Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name;
worship the Lord in Ps. 110:3;1 Chr. 16:29;[Ex. 28:2]the splendor of holiness.29:2 Or in holy attire
3 The voice of the Lord is over [Ps. 18:11] the waters;
the God of glory Job 37:4,5thunders,
the Lord, over many waters.
4 The voice of the Lord is Ps. 68:33powerful;
the voice of the Lord is full of majesty.
5 The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars;
the Lord breaks Ps. 104:16;Judg. 9:15the cedars of Lebanon.
6 He makes Lebanon to Ps. 114:4,6skip like a calf,
and Deut. 3:9Sirion like a young Num. 23:22wild ox.
7 The voice of the Lord flashes forth flames of fire.
8 The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness;
the Lord shakes the wilderness of Num. 13:26Kadesh.
9 The voice of the Lord makes [Job 39:1-3]the deer give birth29:9 Revocalization yields makes the oaks to shake
and strips the forests bare,
and in his temple all cry, "Glory!"
10 The Lord sits enthroned over [Gen. 6:17] the flood;
the Lord sits enthroned Ps. 10:16as king forever.
11 May the Lord give Ps. 68:35;[Isa. 40:29] strength to his people!
