Todos os que se deixam dominar por elas, perdendo o controlo de si mesmos, são loucos.2 A zanga dum governante mete tanto respeito como o rugido dum leão. Dar ocasião a que a sua cólera se acenda é arriscar a própria vida.3 Uma pessoa que sabe evitar brigas pode considerar-se digna de todo o respeito. Só os tolos se metem em discussões.4 O preguiçoso não quer lavrar a terra na estação própria. Quando chega a época da colheita, não tem que comer.5 Por mais fundo que se escondam no coração do ser humano os seus pensamentos, um indivíduo com bom entendimento saberá tirá-los para fora.6 Toda a gente diz que sabe ser um amigo leal para os outros. Mas sê-lo-ão mesmo?7 A melhor herança de todas é ter um pai que anda nos caminhos da justiça.8 Um governante, quando tem de tomar decisões, pesa todas as informações que recebe, distinguindo cuidadosamente o que é verdade e o que é falso.9 Quem poderá dizer: O meu coração é puro. Estou sem pecado?10 Ter diversos pesos e medidas, diferentes critérios para aplicar a este ou aquele conforme as conveniências, é coisa que o Senhor abomina.11 Até uma criança se revela pela sua maneira de agir. Através da sua conduta se pode verificar se ela é pura e honesta.12 Saber ouvir e ver - pode considerar-se isso um dom de Deus.13 Se te dás muito ao sono, acabarás por empobrecer. Mantém-te desperto e te fartarás de pão.14 Isto não é grande coisa. Tem pouco valor!, diz o comprador ao discutir o preço. Mas depois do negócio feito, vai-se embora a gabar-se da boa compra que fez.15 Ouro e jóias é coisa de alto preço, mas não se compara com o valor de uma fala repassada de bom senso e de conhecimento.16 Quem fica por fiador de alguém que não conhece é como se estivesse já a dar-lhe até a própria roupa que tem.17 Há muita gente que até se sente feliz a mentir e a enganar os outros. Mas mais tarde isso sabe-lhes a um bolo de pastelaria que comessem todo cheio de areia.18 Os projectos que se fazem devem ser amadurecidos com reflexão. Não se vai à guerra sem se ter reflectido no que se faz.19 Nunca te abras com um linguareiro. Evita a gente que fala demais.20 Para quem amaldiçoa o pai ou a mãe, a sua luz apagar-se-á no meio de densas trevas.21 Uma fortuna rapidamente obtida através da desonestidade não poderá vir a trazer bênção ao que a possue.22 Não digas: Hei-de vingar-me! Espera, e o Senhor se encarregará do assunto.23 O Senhor odeia o uso de balanças falsificadas, assim como diferentes formas de ajuizar, conforme as pessoas.24 O Senhor é quem dirige a nossa vida. Por isso as pessoas não entendem o que lhes acontece?25 É perigoso uma pessoa fazer levianamente promessas a Deus, e só depois pensar no que disse.26 Um governante sábio esmaga o crime com castigos severos.27 A consciência do homem é como que uma lâmpada para o Senhor, que ilumina e desvenda tudo o que há de mais secreto no seu íntimo.28 O chefe duma nação cuja forma de actuar é marcada pela honestidade e pela lealdade está dando ao seu governo uma base bem firme.29 Se por um lado os jovens têm brio na sua força, por outro os velhos sentem-se honrados com os seus cabelos brancos.30 Um castigo que faz mesmo doer é remédio para a maldade; e os açoites tocam no mais íntimo do ser.
