1 O Senhor tem repulsa por tudo o que é fraude, mas tem grande prazer na honestidade.2 A gente soberba acaba sempre por cair na vergonha; a sabedoria está do lado dos mansos.3 As pessoas honestas são conduzidas pela sua própria honestidade; as desonestas serão arruinadas pela sua maldade.4 As riquezas de nada servem no dia do juízo. Só a justiça livra da condenação eterna.5 A justiça das pessoas íntegras torna recta a sua conduta, mas o pecador cairá com o peso dos seus pecados.6 A justiça dos rectos os livrará, mas os maus serão apanhados pela sua própria intrujice.7 Quando o pecador morre, morrem com ele as suas esperanças, porque se baseiam unicamente nas coisas materiais.8 Deus livra os rectos da angústia, enquanto que aos perversos deixa-os passar por ela.9 O hipócrita destrói o seu próximo com a língua, mas Deus o livra dele porque todos conhecem a sua reputação.10 Todo o cidadão se regozija com o sucesso de um homem justo, assim como também com a queda dos que rejeitam Deus.11 Uma população torna-se próspera sob a influência dos rectos; mas arruina-se com gente corrupta.12 Quem despreza o seu próximo carece de bom senso; aquele que tem entendimento sabe dominar-se.13 Quem anda metido em mexericos, não faz outra coisa do que espalhar intrigas; mas a pessoa de confiança sabe quando se deve calar.14 Sem uma condução sábia o povo perturba-se, mas com bons conselheiros então há segurança.15 Quem ficar por fiador de alguém que não conhece, certamente virá a sofrer. Vale mais recusar e ficar seguro.16 A honra é própria de uma mulher graciosa e guarda-a com a mesma firmeza com que os avarentos guardam o dinheiro.17 Uma pessoa bondosa faz bem, até à sua própria alma; mas pelo contrário destrói-a quando se torna cruel.18 Os lucros que obtêm os maus, ao fim e ao cabo, não lhes rendem nada; mas os que semeiam a justiça terão uma recompensa garantida.19 Tal como a justiça conduz à vida, assim também o que segue o mal faz isso para sua própria condenação.20 O Senhor aborrece profundamente os que têm um coração tortuoso; mas tem prazer nos que buscam a perfeição.21 O indivíduo corrupto nunca virá a ficar sem castigo; os filhos dos justos escaparão.22 Como uma jóia de ouro no focinho dum porco, assim é uma mulher bonita a quem falta modéstia.23 Os que vivem com justiça podem contar com a felicidade, enquanto que os que se afastam de Deus só podem esperar pela condenação.24 Alguns há que distribuem o que têm e ainda se tornam ricos, e outros retêm com avareza o que possuem e acabam por tudo perder. Sim, os que são generosos engordarão; os que dão a beber aos outros serão saciados!26 O povo amaldiçoa quem açambarca alimentos para especular. Contudo aqueles que vendem o que faz falta serão abençoados.27 O que procura ansiosamente o bem virá a encontrar o favor de Deus, e aquele que só sabe é seguir o mal, o mal acabará por destruí-lo.28 Confia nas tuas riquezas e cairás! Confia em Deus e serás como uma planta viçosa!29 O louco que provoca a sua família à zanga verá o vento levar-lhe tudo; virá a ser servo de outros que têm mais entendimento do que ele.30 Os que seguem Deus são como uma árvore de vida, e o que ganha almas sábio é!31 Até mesmo os justos terão a sua retribuição nesta terra, quanto mais os maus e os pecadores!

1 A false balance is abomination to the LORD: but a just weight is his delight.2 When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.3 The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.4 Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death.5 The righteousness of the perfect shall direct his way: but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness.6 The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them: but transgressors shall be taken in their own naughtiness.7 When a wicked man dieth, his expectation shall perish: and the hope of unjust men perisheth.8 The righteous is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked cometh in his stead.9 A hypocrite with his mouth destroyeth his neighbor: but through knowledge shall the just be delivered.10 When the righteous prosper, the city rejoiceth: and when the wicked perish, there is shouting.11 By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted: but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.12 He that is void of wisdom despiseth his neighbor: but a man of understanding holdeth his peace.13 A tale-bearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter.14 Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counselors there is safety.15 He that is surety for a stranger shall smart for it: and he that hateth suretiship is sure.16 A gracious woman retaineth honor: and strong men retain riches.17 The merciful man doeth good to his own soul: but he that is cruel troubleth his own flesh.18 The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward.19 As righteousness tendeth to life: so he that pursueth evil pursueth it to his own death.20 They that are of a froward heart are abomination to the LORD: but such as are upright in their way are his delight.21 Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.22 As a jewel of gold in a swine's snout, so is a fair woman who is without discretion.23 The desire of the righteous is only good: but the expectation of the wicked is wrath.24 There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty.25 The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.26 He that withholdeth corn, the people shall curse him: but blessing shall be upon the head of him that selleth it.27 He that diligently seeketh good procureth favor: but he that seeketh mischief, it shall come to him.28 He that trusteth in his riches shall fall: but the righteous shall flourish as a branch.29 He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind: and the fool shall be servant to the wise of heart.30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.31 Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed upon the earth: much more the wicked and the sinner.
