| 1 | Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made: and he said to the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? | A kígyó pedig ravaszabb vala minden mezei vadnál, melyet az Úr Isten teremtett vala, és monda az asszonynak: Csakugyan azt mondta az Isten, hogy a kertnek egy fájáról se egyetek? |
| 2 | And the woman said to the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: | És monda az asszony a kígyónak: A kert fáinak gyümölcsébõl ehetünk; |
| 3 | But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. | De annak a fának gyümölcsébõl, mely a kertnek közepette van, azt mondá Isten: abból ne egyetek, azt meg se illessétek, hogy meg ne haljatok. |
| 4 | And the serpent said to the woman, Ye shall not surely die: | És monda a kígyó az asszonynak: Bizony nem haltok meg; |
| 5 | For God doth know, that in the day ye eat of it, then your eyes shall be opened: and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. | Hanem tudja az Isten, hogy a mely napon ejéndetek abból, megnyilatkoznak a ti szemeitek, és olyanok lésztek mint az Isten: jónak és gonosznak tudói. |
| 6 | And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise; she took of its fruit, and ate, and gave also to her husband with her, and he ate. | És látá az asszony, hogy jó az a fa eledelre s hogy kedves a szemnek, és kivánatos az a fa a bölcseségért: szakaszta azért annak gyümölcsébõl, és evék, és ada vele levõ férjének is, és az is evék. |
| 7 | And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked: and they sewed fig-leaves together, and made for themselves aprons. | És megnyilatkozának mindkettõjöknek szemei s észrevevék, hogy mezítelenek; figefa levelet aggatának azért össze, és körülkötõket csinálának magoknak. |
| 8 | And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. | És meghallák az Úr Isten szavát, a ki hûvös alkonyatkor a kertben jár vala; és elrejtõzék az ember és az õ felesége az Úr Isten elõl a kert fái között. |
| 9 | And the LORD God called to Adam, and said to him, Where art thou? | Szólítá ugyanis az Úr Isten az embert és monda néki: Hol vagy? |
| 10 | And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden: and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. | És monda: Szavadat hallám a kertben, és megfélemlém, mivelhogy mezítelen vagyok, és elrejtezém. |
| 11 | And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree of which I commanded thee, that thou shouldest not eat? | És monda Õ: Ki mondá néked, hogy mezítelen vagy? Avagy talán ettél a fáról, melytõl tiltottalak, hogy arról ne egyél? |
| 12 | And the man said, The woman, whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate. | És monda az ember: Az asszony, a kit mellém adtál vala, õ ada nékem arról a fáról, úgy evém. |
| 13 | And the LORD God said to the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I ate. | És monda az Úr Isten az asszonynak: Mit cselekedtél? Az asszony pedig monda: A kígyó ámított el engem, úgy evém. |
| 14 | And the LORD God said to the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field: upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: | És monda az Úr Isten a kígyónak: Mivelhogy ezt cselekedted, átkozott légy minden barom és minden mezei vad között; hasadon járj, és port egyél életed minden napjaiban. |
| 15 | And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed: it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. | És ellenségeskedést szerzek közötted és az asszony között, a te magod között, és az õ magva között: az neked fejedre tapos, te pedig annak sarkát mardosod. |
| 16 | To the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children: and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee. | Az asszonynak monda: Felette igen megsokasítom viselõsséged fájdalmait, fájdalommal szûlsz magzatokat; és epekedel a te férjed után, õ pedig uralkodik te rajtad. |
| 17 | And to Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened to the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; | Az embernek pedig monda: Mivelhogy hallgattál a te feleséged szavára, és ettél arról a fáról, a melyrõl azt parancsoltam, hogy ne egyél arról: Átkozott legyen a föld te miattad, fáradságos munkával élj belõle életednek minden napjaiban. |
| 18 | Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; | Töviset és bogácskórót teremjen tenéked; s egyed a mezõnek fûvét. |
| 19 | In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou shalt return to the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and to dust shalt thou return. | Orczád verítékével egyed a te kenyeredet, míglen visszatérsz a földbe, mert abból vétettél: mert por vagy te s ismét porrá leszesz. |
| 20 | And Adam called his wife's name Eve, because she was the mother of all living. | Nevezte vala pedig Ádám az õ feleségét Évának, mivelhogy õ lett anyja minden élõnek. |
| 21 | For Adam also and for his wife the LORD God made coats of skins, and clothed them. | És csinála az Úr Isten Ádámnak és az õ feleségének bõr ruhákat, és felöltözteté õket. |
| 22 | And the LORD God said, Behold, the man hath become as one of us, to know good and evil. And now, lest he should put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: | És monda az Úr Isten: Ímé az ember olyanná lett, mint mi közûlünk egy, jót és gonoszt tudván. Most tehát, hogy ki ne nyújtsa kezét, hogy szakaszszon az élet fájáról is, hogy egyék, s örökké éljen: |
| 23 | Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from which he was taken. | Kiküldé õt az Úr Isten az Éden kertjébõl, hogy mívelje a földet, a melybõl vétetett vala. |
| 24 | So he drove out the man: and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubim, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life. | És kiûzé az embert, és oda helyezteté az Éden kertjének keleti oldala felõl a Kerúbokat és a villogó pallos lángját, hogy õrizzék az élet fájának útját. |
