| 2 | And the barbarous people showed us no little kindness: for they kindled a fire, and received us every one, because of the present rain, and because of the cold. | A barbárok pedig nem közönséges emberséget cselekesznek vala mi velünk: mert tüzet gerjesztvén, befogadának mindnyájónkat a rajtunk való záporért és a hidegért. |
| 3 | And when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks, and laid them on the fire, there came a viper out of the heat, and fastened on his hand. | Mikor pedig Pál nagy sok venyigét szedett és a tûzre tette, egy vipera a melegbõl kimászva, az õ kezére ragada. |
| 4 | And when the barbarians saw the animal hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance suffereth not to live. | Mikor pedig látták a barbárok az õ kezérõl függeni a mérges kígyót, mondják vala egymásnak: Nyilván gyilkos ez az ember, kit nem hagya élni a bosszúállás, noha a tengerbõl megszabadult. |
| 5 | And he shook off the animal into the fire, and felt no harm. | De néki, minekutána a kígyót lerázta a tûzbe, semmi baja sem lõn. |
| 6 | Yet they looked when he would have swelled, or fallen down dead suddenly: but after they had looked a great while, and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a god. | Azok pedig azt várják vala, hogy õ meg fog dagadni, vagy nagyhirtelenséggel halva rogyik le. Mikor azonban sok ideig várták, és látták, hogy semmi baja nem lesz, megváltoztatva értelmöket, istennek mondják vala õt. |
| 7 | In the same quarters were possessions of the chief man of the isle, whose name was Publius; who received us, and lodged us three days courteously. | Annak a helynek környékén valának pedig a sziget fõemberének, névszerint Publiusnak mezei jószágai, ki befogadván minket, három napig nagy emberségesen vendégül látott. |
| 8 | And it came to pass that the father of Publius lay sick with a fever, and a bloody-flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him. | Lõn pedig, hogy a Publius atyja hideglelésben és vérhasban betegen feküvék. Kihez Pál beméne, és minekutána könyörgött, kezeit reá vetve meggyógyítá õt. |
| 9 | So when this was done, others also who had diseases in the isle, came, and were healed: | Minekutána azért ez megtörtént, egyebek is, kik betegek valának a szigeten, õ hozzá jövének és meggyógyulának. |
| 10 | Who also honored us with many honors; and when we departed, they laded us with such things as were necessary. | Kik nékünk nagy tisztességet is tõnek, és mikor elindulánk, a szükséges dolgokkal ellátának. |
| 11 mapa | And after three months we departed in a ship of Alexandria, which had wintered in the isle, whose sign was Castor and Pollux. | Három hónap mulva tudniillik egy Alexandriába való hajón elindulánk, mely a szigeten telelt, melynek czímere Kásztor és Pollux vala. |
| 12 mapa | And landing at Syracuse, we tarried there three days. | És Szirakúzába eljutván, ott maradánk három napig. |
| 13 mapa | And from thence we made a circuit, and came to Rhegium: and after one day the south wind blew, and we came the next day to Puteoli: | Onnét körülkerülvén, eljutánk Régiumba, és egy nap mulva déli szél támadván, másnap megérkezénk Puteóliba. |
| 14 mapa | Where we found brethren, and were desired to tarry with them seven days: and so we went towards Rome. | Hol mikor atyafiakat találtunk, kérének minket, hogy nálok maradjunk hét napig; és úgy menénk Rómába. |

És mikor Pál meglátta õket, hálákat adván az Istennek, bátorságot võn. |
| 16 mapa | And when we came to Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard: but Paul was suffered to dwell by himself, with a soldier that kept him. | Mikor pedig Rómába jutottunk, a százados átadá a foglyokat a testõrsereg fõvezérének. Pálnak azonban megengedteték, hogy külön lakjék az õt õrizõ vitézzel. |
| 17 mapa | And it came to pass, that after three days, Paul called together the chief of the Jews. And when they were assembled, he said to them, Men, brethren, though I have committed nothing against the people, or customs of our fathers, yet I was delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans. | Lõn pedig, hogy három nap mulva magához hívatá Pál a zsidók között való fõembereket. Mikor pedig egybegyûltek, monda nékik: Atyámfiai,férfiak, én jóllehet semmit sem vétkeztem a nép ellen, vagy az õsi szokások ellen, mindazáltal foglyul adattam át Jeruzsálembõl a rómaiak kezébe. |
| 18 | Who when they had examined me, would have let me go, because there was no cause of death in me. | Kik miután kihallgattak, el akarának engem bocsátani, mivelhogy én bennem semmi halálra méltó vétek nincsen. |
| 19 | But when the Jews spoke against it, I was constrained to appeal to Cesar; not that I had aught to accuse my nation of. | De mivel a zsidók ellene mondtak, kényszeríttettem a császárra appellálni, nem mintha az én népem ellen volna valami vádam. |
| 20 | For this cause therefore have I called for you, to see you, and to speak with you: because that for the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain. | Ennekokáért hívattalak tehát titeket, hogy lássalak benneteket és szóljak veletek; mert az Izráelnek reménységéért vétettem körül e lánczczal. |
| 21 mapa | And they said to him, We have neither received letters from Judea concerning thee, neither have any of the brethren that came shown or spoken any harm of thee. | Azok pedig mondának néki: Mi te felõled sem levelet nem vettünk Júdeából, sem pedig az atyafiak közül ide jõve valaki, nem jelentett, vagy szólott te felõled valami rosszat. |
| 22 | But we desire to hear from thee, what thou thinkest: for as concerning this sect, we know that every where it is spoken against. | Akarnók azért tõled hallani, micsoda értelemben vagy. Mert e felekezet felõl tudva van elõttünk, hogy mindenütt ellene mondanak. |
| 23 | And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening. | Kitûzvén tehát néki egy napot, eljövének hozzá a szállására többen; kiknek nagy bizonyságtétellel szól vala az Istennek országa felõl, igyekezvén elhitetni õ velök a Jézus felõl való dolgokat, úgy a Mózes törvényébõl, mint a prófétákból, reggeltõl fogva mind estvéig. |
| 24 | And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not. | És némelyek hivének az õ beszédének, mások nem hivének. |
| 25 | And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after Paul had spoken one word, Well spoke the Holy Spirit by Isaiah the prophet to our fathers, | Mivel pedig nem egyezének meg egymással, eloszlának, miután Pál ez egy szót mondá: Jól szólott a Szent Lélek Ésaiás próféta által a mi atyáinknak, mondván: |
| 26 | Saying, Go to this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive. | Eredj el a néphez és mondd: Hallván halljátok, és ne értsetek; és nézvén nézzetek, és ne lássatok! |
| 27 | For the heart of this people is become gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. | Mert megkövéredett e népnek szíve, és füleikkel nehezen hallanak, és szemeiket behunyják; hogy szemeikkel ne lássanak, füleikkel ne halljanak, szívükkel ne értsenek és meg ne térjenek, és meg ne gyógyítsam õket. |
| 28 | Be it known therefore to you, that the salvation of God is sent to the Gentiles, and they will hear it. | Legyen azért néktek tudtotokra, hogy a pogány népeknek küldetett az Istennek ez idvezítése, és õk meg is hallgatják. |
| 29 | And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, and had great reasoning among themselves. | És mikor ezeket mondotta, elmenének a zsidók, magok között sokat vetekedve. |
| 30 | And Paul dwelt two whole years in his own hired house, and received all that came in to him, | Marada pedig Pál két egész esztendeig az õ tulajdon bérelt szállásán, és mindazokat befogadja vala, kik õ hozzá menének. |
| 31 | Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him. | Prédikálván az Istennek országát és tanítván az Úr Jézus Krisztus felõl való dolgokat teljes bátorsággal, minden tiltás nélkül. |
