| 1 | The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, | Elsõ könyvemet írtam, Theofilus, mindazokról, a miket kezdett Jézus cselekedni és tanítani, |
| 2 | Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles whom he had chosen: | Mind a napig, melyen fölviteték, minekutána parancsolatokat adott a Szent Lélek által az apostoloknak, kiket választott vala magának. |
| 3 | To whom also he showed himself alive after his passion, by many infallible proofs, being seen by them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God: | Kiknek az õ szenvedése után sok jel által meg is mutatta, hogy õ él, negyven napon át megjelenvén nékik, és szólván az Isten országára tartozó dolgokról. |
| 4 | And being assembled with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard from me. | És velök összejövén, meghagyá nékik, hogy el ne menjenek Jeruzsálembõl, hanem várják be az Atyának ígéretét, melyet [úgymond,] hallottatok tõlem: |
| 5 | For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days hence. | Hogy János ugyan vízzel keresztelt, ti azonban Szent Lélekkel fogtok megkereszteltetni nem sok nap mulva. |
| 6 | When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? | Mikor azért azok egybegyûltek, megkérdék õt, mondván: Uram, avagy nem ez idõben állítod-é helyre az országot Izráelnek? |
| 7 | And he said to them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. | Monda pedig nékik: Nem a ti dolgotok tudni az idõket vagy alkalmakat, melyeket az Atya a maga hatalmába helyheztetett. |
| 8 | But ye shall receive power after the Holy Spirit is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses to me, both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and to the uttermost part of the earth. | Hanem vesztek erõt, minekutána a Szent Lélek eljõ reátok: és lesztek nékem tanúim úgy Jeruzsálemben, mint az egész Júdeában és Samariában és a földnek mind végsõ határáig. |
| 9 | And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. | És mikor ezeket mondotta, az õ láttokra felemelteték, és felhõ fogá el õt szemeik elõl. |
| 10 | And while they looked steadfastly towards heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; | És a mint szemeiket az égre függesztették, mikor õ elméne, ímé két férfiú állott meg mellettük fehér ruhában, |
| 11 | Who also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up to heaven? this same Jesus who is taken from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. | Kik szóltak is: Galileabeli férfiak, mit állotok nézve a mennybe? Ez a Jézus, a ki felviteték tõletek a mennybe, akképen jõ el, a miképen láttátok õt felmenni a mennybe. |
| 12 | Then they returned to Jerusalem, from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day's journey. | Akkor megtérének Jeruzsálembe a hegyrõl, mely hívatik Olajfák [hegyének,] mely Jeruzsálem mellett van, egy szombat[napi] járóföldre. |
| 13 | And when they had come in, they went into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alpheus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James. | És mikor bementek, felmenének a felsõházba, a hol szállva valának: Péter és Jakab, János és András, Filep és Tamás, Bertalan és Máté, Jakab, az Alfeus fia, és Simon, a zelóta, és Júdás, a Jakab fia. |
| 14 | These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren. | Ezek mindnyájan egy szívvel-lélekkel foglalatosak valának az imádkozásban és a könyörgésben, az asszonyokkal és Máriával, Jézusnak anyjával, és az õ atyjafiaival együtt. |
| 15 | And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said (the number of the names together were about a hundred and twenty,) | És azokban a napokban felkelvén Péter a tanítványok között, monda (vala pedig ott együtt mintegy százhúsz fõnyi sokaság): |
| 16 | Men, brethren, This scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit by the mouth of David spoke before concerning Judas, who was guide to them that took Jesus. | Atyámfiai, férfiak, szükség volt betelni annak az írásnak, melyet megjövendölt a Szent Lélek Dávid szája által Júdás felõl, ki vezetõjük lõn azoknak, a kik megfogták Jézust. |
| 17 | For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry. | Mert mi közénk számláltatott, és elnyerte ennek a szolgálatnak az osztályrészét. |
| 18 | Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out. | (Ez [hát] mezõt szerze hamisságának bérébõl; és alá zuhanván, elhasadt középen, és minden belsõ része kiomlott. |
| 19 mapa | And it was known to all the dwellers at Jerusalem; so that that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood. | És [ez] tudtokra lõn mindazoknak, kik Jeruzsálemben lakoznak; úgy hogy az a mezõ tulajdon nyelvökön Akeldamának, azaz Vérmezõnek neveztetett el.) |
| 20 | For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell in it: and, His bishopric let another take. | Mert meg van írva a Zsoltárok könyvében: Legyen az õ lakóhelye puszta, és ne legyen lakó abban. És: Az õ püspökségét más vegye el. |
| 21 | Wherefore, of these men who accompanied us, all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, | Szükség azért, hogy azok közül a férfiak közül, a kik velünk együtt jártak minden idõben, míg az Úr Jézus közöttünk járt-kelt, |
| 22 | Beginning from the baptism of John, to that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection. | A János keresztségétõl kezdve mind a napig, melyen fölviteték tõlünk, azok közül egy az õ feltámadásának bizonysága legyen mivelünk egyetemben. |
| 23 | And they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias. | Állatának azért elõ kettõt, Józsefet, ki hivatik Barsabásnak, kinek mellékneve Justus vala, és Mátyást. |
| 24 | And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, who knowest the hearts of all men, show which of these two thou hast chosen, | És imádkozván, mondának: Te, Uram, ki mindeneknek szívét ismered, mutasd meg a kettõ közül egyiket, a kit kiválasztottál, |
| 25 | That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place. | Hogy elnyerje az osztályrészét e szolgálatnak és apostolságnak, melytõl eltévelyedék Júdás, hogy az õ saját helyére jusson. |
| 26 | And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles. | Sorsot vetének azért reájok, és esék a sors Mátyásra, és a tizenegy apostol közé számláltaték. |
