1 Hear, Israel! Thou art to pass over the Jordan this day, to enter in to possess nations greater and mightier than thou, cities great and walled up to heaven, 2 a people great and tall, the sons of the Anakim, whom thou knowest, and of whom thou hast heard say, Who can stand before the sons of Anak! 3 Know then this day, that Jehovah thy God*GodHebrew: Elohim is he that goeth over before thee, a consuming fire; he will destroy them, and he will cast them down before thee, and thou shalt dispossess them and cause them to perish quickly, as Jehovah hath said unto thee. 4 Thou shalt not say in thy heart, when Jehovah thy God*GodHebrew: Elohim thrusteth them out from before thee, saying, For my righteousness Jehovah hath brought me in to possess this land; but for the wickedness of these nations doth Jehovah dispossess them from before thee. 5 Not for thy righteousness, or for the uprightness of thy heart, dost thou enter in to possess their land, but for the wickedness of these nations doth Jehovah thy God*GodHebrew: Elohim dispossess them from before thee, and that he may perform the word which Jehovah swore unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob. 6 Know therefore that Jehovah thy God*GodHebrew: Elohim doth not give thee this good land to possess it for thy righteousness; for thou art a stiff-necked people.

7 Remember, forget not, how thou provokedst Jehovah thy God*GodHebrew: Elohim to wrath in the wilderness. From the day that thou didst depart out of the land of Egypt, until ye came to this place, ye have been rebellious against Jehovah. 8 And at Horeb ye provoked Jehovah to wrath, and Jehovah was angry with you, to destroy you, 9 when I went up the mountain to receive the tables of stone, the tables of the covenant which Jehovah made with you, and I abode in the mountain forty days and forty nights, — I ate no bread and drank no water, — 10 — and Jehovah delivered to me the two tables of stone written with the finger of God*GodHebrew: Elohim and on them was written according to all the words which Jehovah spoke with you on the mountain from the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly. 11 And it came to pass at the end of forty days and forty nights, that Jehovah gave me the two tables of stone, the tables of the covenant. 12 And Jehovah said unto me, Arise, go down quickly from hence; for thy people which thou hast brought forth out of Egypt have corrupted themselves; they have quickly turned aside from the way which I commanded them: they have made for themselves a molten image. 13 And Jehovah spoke unto me, saying, I have seen this people, and behold, it is a stiff-necked people. 14 Let me alone, that I may destroy them, and blot out their name from under heaven; and I will make of thee a nation mightier and greater than they. 15 And I turned and came down from the mountain, and the mountain burned with fire; and the two tables of the covenant were in my two hands. 16 And I saw, and behold, ye had sinned against Jehovah your God*GodHebrew: Elohim ye had made for yourselves a molten calf; ye had quickly turned aside from the way which Jehovah had commanded you. 17 And I seized the two tables, and cast them out of my two hands, and broke them before your eyes. 18 And I fell down before Jehovah, as at the first, forty days and forty nights, — I ate no bread and drank no water, — because of all your sin which ye had sinned, in doing what is evil in the eyes of Jehovah, to provoke him to anger. 19 For I was afraid of the anger and fury wherewith Jehovah was wroth against you to destroy you. And Jehovah listened unto me also at that time. 20 And with Aaron Jehovah was very angry to destroy him; and I prayed for Aaron also at the same time. 21 And I took your sin, the calf which ye had made, and burned it with fire, and crushed it, and ground it very small, until it became fine dust; and I cast the dust thereof into the brook that flowed down from the mountain. 22 And at Taberah, and at Massah, and at Kibroth-hattaavah, ye provoked Jehovah to wrath. 23 And when Jehovah sent you from Kadesh-barnea, saying, Go up and take possession of the land which I have given you, ye rebelled against the word of Jehovah your God*GodHebrew: Elohim and ye believed him not, nor hearkened to his voice. 24 Ye have been rebellious against Jehovah from the day that I knew you. 25 So I fell down before Jehovah the forty days and forty nights, as I fell down; for Jehovah had said he would destroy you. 26 I prayed therefore to Jehovah, and said, Lord Jehovah, destroy not thy people and thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed through thy greatness, which thou hast brought forth out of Egypt with a powerful hand. 27 Remember thy servants Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; look not at the stubbornness of this people, nor at their wickedness, nor at their sin; 28 lest the land whence thou broughtest us out say, Because Jehovah was not able to bring them into the land which he had promised them, and because he hated them, he hath brought them out to kill them in the wilderness. 29 They are indeed thy people and thine inheritance, which thou broughtest out with thy great power and with thy stretched-out arm.

Iordanul, ca să te faci stăpân pe niște neamuri*Cap. 4:38;7:1;11:23. mai mari și mai puternice decât tine, pe cetăți mari și întărite*Cap. 1:28. până la cer, 2 pe un popor mare și înalt la statură, pe copiii*Num. 13:22,28,32,33. lui Anac, pe care-i cunoști și despre care ai auzit zicându-se: ‘Cine va putea să stea împotriva copiilor lui Anac!’ 3 Să știi azi că Domnul Dumnezeul tău va merge*Cap. 31:3.Ios. 3:11. El Însuși înaintea ta, ca un foc*Cap. 4:24.Evr. 12:29. mistuitor; El îi va*Cap. 7:23. nimici, El îi va smeri înaintea ta; și tu îi vei izgoni*Exod 23:31. Cap. 7:24., îi vei pierde curând, cum ți-a spus Domnul. 4 Când îi va izgoni Domnul Dumnezeul tău dinaintea ta, să nu*Cap. 8:17.Rom. 11:6,20.1 Cor. 4:4,7. zici în inima ta: ‘Pentru bunătatea mea m-a făcut Domnul să intru în stăpânirea țării acesteia.’ Căci din pricina răutății*Gen. 15:16.Lev. 18:24,25. Cap. 18:12. neamurilor acelora le izgonește Domnul dinaintea ta. 5 Nu, nu pentru*Tit 3:5. bunătatea ta, nici pentru curăția inimii tale intri tu în stăpânirea țării lor, ci din pricina răutății acestor neamuri le izgonește Domnul Dumnezeul tău dinaintea ta și ca să împlinească astfel cuvântul*Gen. 12:7;13:15;15:7;17:8;26:4;28:13. prin care Domnul S-a jurat părinților tăi, lui Avraam, lui Isaac și lui Iacov. 6 Să știi dar că nu din pricina bunătății tale îți dă Domnul Dumnezeul tău acea țară bună ca s-o stăpânești, căci tu ești un popor tare încăpățânat*Vers. 13.Exod 32:9;33:3;34:9.. 7 Adu-ți aminte și nu uita cum ai ațâțat mânia Domnului Dumnezeului tău în pustie. Din ziua*Exod 14:11;16:2;17:2.Num. 11:4;20:2;25:2. Cap. 31:27. când ai ieșit din țara Egiptului până la sosirea voastră în locul acesta, tot răzvrătiți împotriva Domnului ați fost! 8 La Horeb*Exod 32:4.Ps. 106:19., atâta ați ațâțat mânia Domnului încât Domnul S-a mâniat pe voi și voia să vă nimicească. 9 Când m-am*Exod 24:12,15. suit pe munte, ca să iau tablele de piatră, tablele legământului pe care l-a făcut Domnul cu voi, am rămas*Exod 24:18;34:28. pe munte patruzeci de zile și patruzeci de nopți, fără să mănânc pâine și fără să beau apă, 10 și*Exod 31:18. Domnul mi-a dat cele două table de piatră, scrise cu degetul lui Dumnezeu și cuprinzând toate cuvintele pe care vi le spusese Domnul pe munte, din mijlocul focului, în ziua când tot poporul era*Exod 19:17;20:1. Cap. 4:10;10:4;18:16. adunat. 11 După acele patruzeci de zile și patruzeci de nopți, Domnul mi-a dat cele două table de piatră, tablele legământului. 12 Domnul mi-a zis atunci: ‘Scoală-te*Exod 32:7. și coboară-te în grabă de aici, căci poporul tău, pe care l-ai scos din Egipt, s-a stricat. S-au abătut*Cap. 31:29.Jud. 2:17. curând de la calea pe care le-am arătat-o: și-au făcut un chip turnat.’ 13 Domnul mi-a zis: ‘Eu văd*Exod 32:9. că poporul acesta este un popor tare*Vers. 6. Cap. 10:16;31:27.2 Împ. 17:14. încăpățânat. 14 Lasă-mă*Exod 32:10. să-i nimicesc și să le șterg numele*Cap. 29:20.Ps. 9:5;109:13. de sub ceruri, iar*Num. 14:12. pe tine te voi face un neam mai puternic și mai mare la număr decât poporul acesta.’ 15 M-am întors*Exod 32:15. și m-am coborât de pe munte, care era*Exod 19:18. Cap. 4:11;5:23. tot numai foc, cu cele două table ale legământului în amândouă mâinile mele. 16 M-am uitat*Exod 32:19., și iată că păcătuiserăți împotriva Domnului Dumnezeului vostru, vă făcuserăți un vițel turnat, vă depărtaserăți curând de la calea pe care v-o arătase Domnul. 17 Am apucat atunci cele două table, le-am aruncat din mâinile mele și le-am sfărâmat sub ochii voștri. 18 M-am aruncat*Exod 34:28.Ps. 106:23. cu fața la pământ înaintea Domnului, ca mai înainte, patruzeci de zile și patruzeci de nopți, fără să mănânc și fără să beau apă, din pricina tuturor păcatelor pe care le săvârșiserăți, făcând ce este rău înaintea Domnului, ca să-L mâniați. 19 Căci mă*Exod 32:10,11. îngrozisem la vederea mâniei și urgiei de care era cuprins Domnul împotriva voastră, până acolo încât voia să vă nimicească. Dar Domnul*Exod 32:14;33:17. Cap. 10:10.Ps. 106:23. m-a ascultat și de data aceasta. 20 Domnul, de asemenea, era foarte mâniat și pe Aaron, așa încât voia să-l piardă, și eu m-am rugat atunci și pentru el. 21 Am luat vițelul pe care-l făcuserăți, isprava*Exod 32:20.Is. 31:7. păcatului vostru, l-am ars în foc, l-am sfărâmat până s-a făcut praf și am aruncat praful acela în pârâul care curgea din munte. 22 Apoi, la*Num. 11:1,3,5. Tabeera, la Masa*Exod 17:7. și la Chibrot-Hataava*Num. 11:4,34., voi iarăși ați ațâțat mânia Domnului. 23 Și când*Num. 13:3;14:1. v-a trimis Domnul de la Cades-Barnea, zicând: ‘Suiți-vă și luați în stăpânire țara pe care v-o dau!’, voi v-ați răzvrătit împotriva poruncii Domnului Dumnezeului vostru, n-ați avut*Ps. 106:24,25. credință în El și n-ați ascultat glasul Lui. 24 V-ați tot*Cap. 31:27. răzvrătit împotriva Domnului de când vă cunosc. 25 M-am aruncat*Vers. 18. cu fața la pământ înaintea Domnului: patruzeci de zile și patruzeci de nopți m-am aruncat cu fața la pământ, pentru că Domnul spusese că vrea să vă nimicească. 26 M-am rugat*Exod 32:11. Domnului și am zis: ‘Stăpâne Doamne, nu nimici pe poporul Tău, moștenirea Ta pe care ai răscumpărat-o în mărimea Ta, pe care ai scos-o din Egipt prin mâna Ta cea puternică. 27 Adu-ți aminte de robii tăi: Avraam, Isaac și Iacov. Nu căuta la îndărătnicia acestui popor, la răutatea lui și la păcatul lui, 28 ca nu cumva țara din care ne-ai scos să zică: «Pentru că*Exod 32:12.Num. 14:16. Domnul n-avea putere să-i ducă în țara pe care le-o făgăduise și pentru că-i ura, de aceea i-a scos ca să-i omoare în pustie.» 29 Totuși ei*Cap. 4:20.1 Împ. 8:51.Neem. 1:10.Ps. 95:7. sunt poporul Tău și moștenirea Ta pe care ai scos-o din Egipt cu mâna Ta cea puternică și cu brațul Tău cel întins.’
