1 If there arise among you a prophet, or one that dreameth dreams, and he give thee a sign or a wonder, 2 and the sign or the wonder come to pass that he told unto thee, when he said, Let us go after other gods, whom thou hast not known, and let us serve them, 3 — thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams; for Jehovah your God*GodHebrew: Elohim proveth you, to know whether ye love Jehovah your God*GodHebrew: Elohim with all your heart and with all your soul. 4 Ye shall walk after Jehovah your God*GodHebrew: Elohim and ye shall fear him, and his commandments shall ye keep, and his voice shall ye hear; and ye shall serve him, and unto him shall ye cleave. 5 And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death; for he hath spoken revolt against Jehovah your God*GodHebrew: Elohim who brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, — to draw thee out of the way that Jehovah thy God*GodHebrew: Elohim commanded thee to walk in; and thou shalt put evil away from thy midst.

6 If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, who is to thee as thy soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods (whom thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers; 7 of the gods of the peoples which are round about you, near unto thee, or far from thee, from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth), 8 thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye spare him, neither shalt thou pity him, neither shalt thou screen him, 9 but thou shalt in any case kill him: thy hand shall be the first against him to put him to death, and afterwards the hands of all the people; 10 and thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die; for he hath sought to draw thee away from Jehovah thy God*GodHebrew: Elohim who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage; 11 and all Israel shall hear, and fear, and shall do no more any such wicked thing as this in thy midst.

12 If in one of thy cities, which Jehovah thy God*GodHebrew: Elohim hath given thee to dwell there, thou hearest, saying, 13 There are men, children of Belial, gone out from among you, and they have drawn away the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, whom ye have not known; 14 then shalt thou inquire, and make search, and ask diligently; and if it be truth, and the thing be certain, that this abomination hath happened in the midst of thee, 15 thou shalt surely smite the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, devoting it to destruction, and all that is therein, and the cattle thereof, with the edge of the sword. 16 And all the spoil of it shalt thou gather into the midst of the open place thereof, and shalt burn the city with fire, and all the spoil thereof, wholly to Jehovah thy God*GodHebrew: Elohim and it shall be a heap for ever; it shall not be built again. 17 And thou shalt not let anything cleave to thy hand of the devoted thing; that Jehovah may turn from the fierceness of his anger, and shew thee mercy, and have compassion upon thee, and multiply thee, as he hath sworn unto thy fathers; 18 when thou hearkenest to the voice of Jehovah thy God*GodHebrew: Elohim to keep all his commandments which I command thee this day, that thou mayest do what is right in the eyes of Jehovah thy God*GodHebrew: Elohim.

Domnul Dumnezeul vostru și de El să vă temeți; poruncile Lui să le păziți; de glasul Lui să ascultați; Lui să-I slujiți și de El să vă*Cap. 10:20;30:20. alipiți. 5 Prorocul*Cap. 18:20.Ier. 14:15.Zah. 13:3. sau visătorul acela de vise să fie pedepsit cu moartea, căci a vorbit de răzvrătire împotriva Domnului Dumnezeului vostru, care v-a scos din țara Egiptului și v-a izbăvit din casa robiei, și a voit să te abată de la calea în care ți-a poruncit Domnul Dumnezeul tău să umbli. Să scoți astfel*Cap. 17:7;22:21,22,24.1 Cor. 5:13. răul din mijlocul tău.

6 Dacă*Cap. 17:2. fratele tău, fiul mamei tale, sau fiul tău, sau fiica ta, sau nevasta*Gen. 16:5. Cap. 28:54.Prov. 5:20.Mica 7:5. care se odihnește la sânul tău, sau prietenul tău pe care-l*1 Sam. 18:1,3;20:17. iubești ca pe tine însuți te ațâță în taină zicând: ‘Haidem și să slujim altor dumnezei!’, dumnezei pe care nici tu, nici părinții tăi nu i-ați cunoscut, 7 dintre dumnezeii popoarelor care vă înconjoară, lângă tine sau departe de tine, de la o margine a pământului până la cealaltă, 8 să nu te*Prov. 1:10. învoiești și să nu-l asculți; să n-arunci spre el o privire de milă, să nu-l cruți și să nu-l ascunzi. 9 Ci să-l omori*Cap. 17:5.; întâi mâna*Cap. 17:7.Fapte 7:58. ta să se ridice asupra lui ca să-l omoare și apoi mâna întregului popor; 10 să-l ucizi cu pietre și să moară, pentru că a căutat să te abată de la Domnul Dumnezeul tău, care te-a scos din țara Egiptului, din casa robiei. 11 Să se facă așa, pentru ca tot*Cap. 17:13;19:20. Israelul să audă și să se teamă și să nu se mai săvârșească o faptă așa de nelegiuită în mijlocul tău.

12 Dacă vei*Ios. 22:11.Jud. 20:1,2. auzi spunându-se despre una din cetățile pe care ți le-a dat ca locuință Domnul Dumnezeul tău: 13 ‘Niște oameni răi*1 Ioan 2:19.Iuda 19. au ieșit din mijlocul tău și au amăgit*2 Împ. 17:21. pe locuitorii din cetatea lor zicând: «Haidem*Vers. 2,6. și să slujim altor dumnezei!»’ – dumnezei pe care tu nu-i cunoști –, 14 să faci cercetări, să cauți și să întrebi cu de-amănuntul. Dacă este adevărat, dacă lucrul este întemeiat, dacă urâciunea aceasta a fost făcută în mijlocul tău, 15 atunci să treci prin ascuțișul sabiei pe locuitorii din cetatea aceea, s-o nimicești cu desăvârșire*Exod 22:20.Ios. 6:17,21. împreună cu tot ce va fi în ea și să-i treci chiar și vitele prin ascuțișul sabiei. 16 Să strângi toată prada în mijlocul pieței și să arzi de*Ios. 6:24. tot cu foc cetatea și toată prada ei înaintea Domnului Dumnezeului tău: să rămână pentru totdeauna un morman*Ios. 8:28.Is. 17:1;25:2.Ier. 49:2. de dărâmături și niciodată să nu fie zidită din nou. 17 Nimic*Cap. 7:26. din ce va fi blestemat ca să fie nimicit cu desăvârșire să nu se lipească de mâna ta, pentru ca Domnul să Se întoarcă*Ios. 6:18;6:26. din iuțimea mâniei Lui, să Se îndure de tine, să te ierte și să te înmulțească, după cum*Gen. 22:17;26:4,24;28:14. a jurat lucrul acesta părinților tăi, 18 dacă vei asculta de glasul Domnului Dumnezeului tău, păzind*Cap. 12:25,28,32. toate poruncile Lui pe care ți le dau astăzi și făcând ce este plăcut înaintea Domnului Dumnezeului tău.
