1 Give ear, ye heavens, and I will speak; And hear, O earth, the words of my mouth! 2 My doctrine shall drop as rain, My speech flow down as dew, As small rain upon the tender herb, And as showers on the grass. 3 For the name of Jehovah will I proclaim: Ascribe greatness unto our God*GodHebrew: Elohim4 He is the Rock, his work is perfect, For all his ways are righteousness; A ·God*GodHebrew: El of faithfulness without deceit, Just and right is he. 5 They have dealt corruptly with him; Not his children’s is their spot: — A crooked and perverted generation! 6 Do ye thus requite Jehovah, Foolish and unwise people? Is not he thy father that hath bought thee? Hath he not made thee and established thee?

7 Remember the days of old, Consider the years of generation to generation; Ask thy father, and he will shew thee; Thine elders, and they will tell thee. 8 When the Most High assigned to the nations their inheritance, When he separated the sons of Adam, He set the bounds of the peoples According to the number of the children of Israel. 9 For Jehovah’s portion is his people; Jacob the lot of his inheritance. 10 He found him in a desert land, And in the waste, howling wilderness; He compassed him about, he watched over him, He preserved him as the apple of his eye. 11 As the eagle stirreth up its nest, Hovereth over its young, Spreadeth out its wings, Taketh them, beareth them on its feathers, 12 So Jehovah alone did lead him, And no strange god*godHebrew: elwas with him. 13 He made him ride on the high places of the earth, And he ate the produce of the field; And he made him suck honey out of the crag, And oil out of the flinty rock; 14 Cream of kine, and milk of sheep, With the fat of lambs, And rams of the breed of Bashan, and he-goats, With the fat of kidneys of wheat; And thou didst drink pure wine, the blood of the grape.

15 Then Jeshurun grew fat, and kicked — Thou art waxen fat, Thou art grown thick, And thou art covered with fatness; — He gave up +God*GodHebrew: Eloah who made him, And lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation. 16 They moved him to jealousy with strange gods, With abominations did they provoke him to anger. 17 They sacrificed unto demons who are not +God*GodHebrew: Eloah To gods whom they knew not, To new ones, who came newly up, Whom your fathers revered not. 18 Of the Rock that begot thee wast thou unmindful, And thou hast forgotten ·God*GodHebrew: El who brought thee forth.

19 And Jehovah saw it, and despised them, Because of the provoking of his sons and of his daughters. 20 And he said, I will hide my face from them, I will see what their end shall be; For they are a perverse generation, Children in whom is no faithfulness. 21 They have moved me to jealousy with that which is no ·God*GodHebrew: El They have exasperated me with their vanities; And I will move them to jealousy with that which is not a people; With a foolish nation will I provoke them to anger. 22 For a fire is kindled in mine anger, And it shall burn into the lowest Sheol, And shall consume the earth and its produce, And set fire to the foundations of the mountains. 23 I will heap mischiefs upon them; Mine arrows will I spend against them. 24 They shall be consumed with hunger, and devoured with burning heat, And with poisonous pestilence; And the teeth of beasts will I send against them, With the poison of what crawleth in the dust. 25 From without shall the sword bereave them, and in the chambers, terror — Both the young man and the virgin, The suckling with the man of gray hairs.

26 I would say, I will scatter, I will make the remembrance of them to cease from among men, 27 If I did not fear provocation from the enemy, Lest their adversaries should misunderstand it, Lest they should say, Our hand is high, and Jehovah has not done all this. 28 For they are a nation void of counsel, And understanding is not in them. 29 Oh that they had been wise! they would have understood this, They would have considered their latter end! 30 How could one chase a thousand, And two put ten thousand to flight, Were it not that their Rock had sold them, And Jehovah had delivered them up? 31 For their rock is not as our Rock: Let our enemies themselves be judges. 32 For their vine is of the vine of Sodom, And of the fields of Gomorrah: Their grapes are grapes of poison, Bitter are their clusters; 33 Their wine is the poison of dragons, And the cruel venom of vipers. 34 Is not this hidden with me, Sealed up among my treasures? 35 Vengeance is mine, and recompense, For the time when their foot shall slip. For the day of their calamity is at hand, And the things that shall come upon them make haste. 36 For Jehovah will judge his people, And shall repent in favour of his servants; When he seeth that power is gone, And there is none shut up or left. 37 And he shall say, Where are their gods, Their rock in whom they trusted, 38 Who ate the fat of their sacrifices, And drank the wine of their drink-offering? Let them rise up and help you, That there may be a protection over you.

39 See now that I, I am HE, And there is no god with me; I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal, And there is none that delivereth out of my hand, 40 For I lift up my hand to the heavens, and say, I live for ever! 41 If I have sharpened my gleaming sword, And my hand take hold of judgment, I will render vengeance to mine adversaries, And will recompense them that hate me. 42 Mine arrows will I make drunk with blood, And my sword shall devour flesh; I will make them drunk with the blood of the slain and of the captives, With the head of the princes of the enemy. 43 Shout for joy, ye nations, with his people, For he avengeth the blood of his servants, And rendereth vengeance to his enemies, And maketh atonement for his land, for his people.

44 And Moses came and spoke all the words of this song in the ears of the people, he and Hoshea the son of Nun. 45 And when Moses had ended speaking all these words to all Israel, 46 he said unto them, Set your hearts unto all the words that I testify among you this day, which ye shall command your children to take heed to do, all the words of this law. 47 For it is no vain word for you, but it is your life, and through this word ye shall prolong your days on the land whereunto ye pass over the Jordan to possess it. 48 And Jehovah spoke to Moses that same day, saying, 49 Go up into this mountain Abarim, mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, which is opposite Jericho; and behold the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel for a possession, 50 and die on the mountain whither thou goest up, and be gathered unto thy peoples, as Aaron thy brother died on mount Hor, and was gathered unto his peoples; 51 because ye trespassed against me among the children of Israel at the waters of Meribah-Kadesh, in the wilderness of Zin; because ye hallowed me not in the midst of the children of Israel. 52 For thou shalt see the land before thee; but thou shalt not go thither unto the land which I give the children of Israel.

7 Adu-ți aminte de zilele din vechime,

Socotește anii, vârstă de oameni după vârstă de oameni,

Întreabă pe tatăl*Exod 13:14.Ps. 44:1;78:3,4. tău, și te va învăța,

Pe bătrânii tăi, și îți vor spune.

8 Când Cel Preaînalt a dat*Zah. 9:2.Fapte 17:26. o moștenire neamurilor,

Când a despărțit*Gen. 11:8. pe copiii oamenilor,

A pus hotare popoarelor

După numărul copiilor lui Israel,

9 Căci partea*Exod 15:16;19:5.1 Sam. 10:1.Ps. 78:71. Domnului este poporul Lui,

Iacov este partea Lui de moștenire.

10 El l-a găsit într-un ținut pustiu*Cap. 8:15.Ier. 2:6.Osea 13:5.,

Într-o singurătate plină de urlete înfricoșate;

L-a înconjurat, l-a îngrijit*Cap. 4:36.

A nesocotit Stânca*2 Sam. 22:47.Ps. 89:26;95:1. mântuirii lui,

16 L-au*1 Împ. 14:22.1 Cor. 10:22. întărâtat la gelozie prin dumnezei străini,

L-au mâniat prin urâciuni;

17 Au adus jertfe*Lev. 17:7.Ps. 106:37.1 Cor. 10:20.Apoc. 9:20. dracilor, unor idoli care nu sunt dumnezei,

Unor dumnezei pe care nu-i cunoșteau,

Dumnezei noi, veniți de curând,

De care nu se temuseră părinții voștri.

18 Ai părăsit Stânca*Is. 17:10. cea care te-a născut

Și ai uitat*Ier. 2:32. pe Dumnezeul care te-a întocmit.

19 Domnul a văzut lucrul*Jud. 2:14. acesta și S-a mâniat,

S-a supărat*Is. 1:2. pe fiii și fiicele Lui.

20 El a zis: ‘Îmi*Cap. 31:17. voi ascunde Fața de ei

Și voi vedea care le va fi sfârșitul,

Căci sunt un neam stricat,

Sunt niște copii*Is. 30:9.Mat. 17:17. necredincioși.

21 Mi-au*Vers. 16.Ps. 78:58. întărâtat gelozia prin ceea ce nu este Dumnezeu,

M-au mâniat*1 Sam. 12:21.1 Împ. 16:13,26.Ps. 31:6.Ier. 8:19;10:8;14:22.Iona 2:8.Fapte 14:15. prin idolii lor deșerți.

Și Eu îi*Osea 1:10.Rom. 10:19. voi întărâta la gelozie printr-un popor care nu este un popor.

Îi voi mânia printr-un neam fără pricepere.

22 Căci*Ier. 15:14;17:4.Plâng. 4:11. focul mâniei Mele s-a aprins

Și va arde până în fundul Locuinței morților,

Va nimici pământul și roadele lui,

Va arde temeliile munților.

23 Voi*Is. 26:15. îngrămădi toate nenorocirile peste ei,

Îmi voi*Ps. 7:12,13.Ezec. 5:16. arunca toate săgețile împotriva lor.

24 Vor fi topiți de foame, stinși de friguri

Și de boli cumplite;

Voi trimite în ei dinții fiarelor*Lev. 26:22. sălbatice

Și otrava șerpilor.

Și înăuntru vor pieri de groază:

Și tânărul, și fata,

Și copilul de țâță, ca și bătrânul.

26 Voiam să*Ezec. 20:13,14,23. zic: «Îi voi lua cu o suflare»,

Le voi șterge pomenirea dintre oameni!

27 Dar Mă tem de ocările vrăjmașului,

Mă tem ca nu cumva vrăjmașii lor să se amăgească

Și să*Ps. 140:8. zică: «Mâna noastră cea puternică,

Și nu Domnul a făcut toate aceste lucruri.»

28 Ei sunt un neam care și-a pierdut bunul simț

Și nu-i pricepere în ei*Is. 27:11.Ier. 4:22..

29 Dacă ar fi fost*Cap. 5:29.Ps. 81:13;107:43.Luca 19:42. înțelepți, ar înțelege

Și s-ar gândi*Is. 47:7.Plâng. 1:9. la ce li se va întâmpla.

30 Cum ar urmări unul*Lev. 26:8.Ios. 23:10.2 Cron. 24:24.Is. 30:17. singur o mie din ei

Și cum ar pune doi pe fugă zece mii,

Dacă nu i-ar fi vândut*Ps. 44:12.Is. 50:1;52:3. Stânca,

Dacă nu i-ar fi vândut Domnul?

31 Căci*1 Sam. 2:2. stânca lor nu este ca Stânca noastră,

Vrăjmașii noștri înșiși sunt judecători în această privință*1 Sam. 4:8.Ier. 40:3..

32 Ci vița*Is. 1:10. lor este din sadul Sodomei

Și din ținutul Gomorei;

Strugurii lor sunt struguri otrăviți,

Bobițele lor sunt amare;

33 Vinul lor este venin*Ps. 58:4. de șerpi,

Este otravă*Ps. 140:3.Rom. 3:13. cumplită de aspidă.

34 Oare nu este ascuns*Iov 14:17.Ier. 2:22.Osea 13:12.Rom. 2:5. lucrul acesta la Mine,

Pecetluit în comorile Mele?

35 A Mea*Ps. 94:1.Rom. 12:19.Evr. 10:30. este răzbunarea și

Eu voi răsplăti

Când va începe să le alunece piciorul!

Căci ziua nenorocirii lor*2 Pet. 2:3. este aproape

Și ceea ce-i așteaptă nu va zăbovi.’

36 Domnul*Ps. 135:14. va judeca pe poporul Său,

Văzând că puterea le este sleită

37 El va zice: ‘Unde sunt dumnezeii*Jud. 10:14.Ier. 2:28. lor,

Stânca aceea care le slujea de adăpost,

38 Dumnezeii aceia care mâncau grăsimea jertfelor lor,

Care beau vinul jertfelor lor de băutură?

Să se scoale să vă ajute

Și să vă ocrotească!

39 Să știți dar că Eu sunt*Ps. 102:27.Is. 41:4;48:12. Dumnezeu

Și că nu*Cap. 4:35.Is. 45:5,18,22. este alt dumnezeu afară de Mine;

Eu rănesc și Eu tămăduiesc,

Și nimeni nu poate scoate pe cineva din mâna Mea.

40 Căci Îmi*Gen. 14:22.Exod 6:8.Num. 14:30. ridic mâna spre cer

Și zic: «Cât este de adevărat că trăiesc în veci,

41 Atât este de adevărat că, atunci când voi*Is. 27:1;34:5;66:16.Ezec. 21:9,10,14,20. ascuți fulgerul sabiei Mele

Și voi pune mâna să fac judecată,

Mă voi răzbuna*Is. 1:24.Naum 1:2. împotriva potrivnicilor Mei

Și voi pedepsi pe cei ce Mă urăsc;

42 Sabia Mea le va înghiți carnea

Și-Mi voi îmbăta*Ier. 46:10. săgețile de sânge,

De sângele celor uciși și prinși,

Din capetele fruntașilor*Iov 13:24.Ier. 30:14.Plâng. 2:5. vrăjmașului.»’

43 Neamuri, cântați*Rom. 15:10. laudele poporului Lui!

Căci Domnul răzbună*Apoc. 6:10;19:2. sângele robilor Săi,

El Se răzbună*Vers. 41. împotriva potrivnicilor Săi

Și face ispășire pentru*Ps. 85:1. țara Lui, pentru poporul Lui."

44 Moise a venit și a rostit toate cuvintele cântării acesteia în fața poporului; Iosua, fiul lui Nun, era cu el. 45 După ce a isprăvit Moise de rostit toate cuvintele acestea înaintea întregului Israel, 46 le-a zis: „Puneți-vă*Cap. 6:6;11:18.Ezec. 40:4. la inimă toate cuvintele pe care vă jur astăzi să le porunciți copiilor voștri, ca să păzească și să împlinească toate cuvintele legii acesteia. 47 Căci nu este un lucru fără însemnătate pentru voi; este viața*Cap. 30:19.Lev. 18:5.Prov. 3:2,22;4:22.Rom. 10:5. voastră și prin aceasta vă veți lungi zilele în țara pe care o veți lua în stăpânire după ce veți trece Iordanul."

48 În aceeași zi, Domnul*Num. 27:12,13. a vorbit lui Moise și a zis: 49 „Suie-te pe muntele*Num. 33:47,48. Cap. 34:1. acesta Abarim, pe muntele Nebo, în țara Moabului, în fața Ierihonului, și privește țara Canaanului pe care o dau în stăpânire copiilor lui Israel. 50 Tu vei muri pe muntele pe care te vei sui și vei fi adăugat la poporul tău, după cum Aaron*Num. 20:25,28;33:38., fratele tău, a murit pe muntele Hor și a fost adăugat la poporul lui, 51 pentru că ați*Num. 20:11-13;27:14. păcătuit împotriva Mea în mijlocul copiilor lui Israel, lângă apele Meriba, la Cades, în pustia Țin, și nu M-ați*Lev. 10:3. sfințit în mijlocul copiilor lui Israel. 52 Tu vei*Num. 27:12. Cap. 34:4. vedea doar de departe țara dinaintea ta, dar nu vei intra în țara pe care o dau copiilor lui Israel."
