1 These are the words of the covenant that Jehovah commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of Moab, besides the covenant that he made with them in Horeb. 2 And Moses called to all Israel, and said unto them, Ye have seen all that Jehovah did before your eyes in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh, and to all his bondmen, and to all his land: 3 the great trials that thine eyes have seen, those great signs and wonders. 4 But Jehovah hath not given you a heart to perceive, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, to this day. 5 And I have led you forty years in the wilderness; your clothes are not grown old upon you, and thy sandal is not grown old upon thy foot; 6 ye have not eaten bread, neither have ye drunk wine or strong drink, that ye might know that I am Jehovah your God*GodHebrew: Elohim7 And ye came to this place; and Sihon the king of Heshbon and Og the king of Bashan came out against us for battle, and we smote them. 8 And we took their land, and gave it for an inheritance to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to the half tribe of the Manassites. 9 Ye shall keep then the words of this covenant, and do them, that ye may prosper in all that ye do.

10 Ye stand this day all of you before Jehovah your God*GodHebrew: Elohim your chiefs of your tribes, your elders, and your officers, all the men of Israel, 11 your little ones, your wives, and thy stranger that is in thy camp, as well the hewer of thy wood as the drawer of thy water; 12 that thou mayest enter into the covenant of Jehovah thy God*GodHebrew: Elohim and into his oath, which Jehovah thy God*GodHebrew: Elohim maketh with thee this day; 13 that he may establish thee this day for a people unto himself, and that he may be to thee a God*GodHebrew: Elohim as he hath said unto thee, and as he hath sworn unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob. 14 Neither with you only do I make this covenant and this oath, 15 but with him that standeth here with us this day before Jehovah our God*GodHebrew: Elohim and with him that is not here with us this day 16 (for ye know how we dwelt in the land of Egypt, and how we came through the nations which ye passed; 17 and ye have seen their abominations, and their idols, wood and stone, silver and gold, which were among them); 18 lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turneth away this day from Jehovah our God*GodHebrew: Elohim to go and serve the gods of these nations; lest there should be among you a root that beareth gall and wormwood, 19 and it come to pass, when he heareth the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, I shall have peace, though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart, to sweep away the drunken with the thirsty. 20 Jehovah will not pardon him, but the anger of Jehovah and his jealousy will then smoke against that man, and all the curse shall be upon him that is written in this book; and Jehovah will blot out his name from under the heavens; 21 and Jehovah will separate him for mischief out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant that is written in this book of the law. 22 And the generation to come, your children who shall rise up after you, and the foreigner that shall come from a far land, shall say, when they see the plagues of that land, and its sicknesses wherewith Jehovah hath visited it, 23 that the whole ground thereof is brimstone and salt, and burning, that it is not sown, nor beareth, and no grass groweth in it, like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboim, which Jehovah overthrew in his anger and in his fury: 24 even all nations shall say, Why has Jehovah done thus to this land? whence the heat of this great anger? 25 And men shall say, Because they have forsaken the covenant of Jehovah the God*GodHebrew: Elohim of their fathers, which he had made with them when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt; 26 and they went and served other gods, and bowed down to them, gods whom they knew not, and whom he had not assigned to them. 27 And the anger of Jehovah was kindled against this land, to bring upon it all the curse that is written in this book; 28 and Jehovah rooted them out of their land in anger, and in fury, and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as it appears this day. 29 The hidden things belong to Jehovah our God*GodHebrew: Elohim but the revealed ones are ours and our children’s for ever, to do all the words of this law.

1 Iată cuvintele legământului*Cap. 5:2,3. pe care a poruncit lui Moise Domnul să-l încheie cu copiii lui Israel în țara Moabului, afară de legământul pe care-l încheiase cu ei la Horeb. 2 Moise a chemat pe tot Israelul și le-a zis: „Ați*Exod 19:4. văzut tot ce a făcut Domnul sub ochii voștri, în țara Egiptului, lui Faraon, tuturor supușilor lui și întregii lui țări: 3 marile*Cap. 4:34;7:19. încercări pe care ți le-au văzut ochii, minunile și semnele acelea mari. 4 Dar Domnul*Is. 6:9,10;63:17.Ioan 8:43.Fapte 28:26,27.Efes. 4:18.2 Tes. 2:11,12. nu v-a dat minte să pricepeți, nici ochi să vedeți, nici urechi să auziți până în ziua de azi. 5 Totuși El zice: ‘Eu v-am*Cap. 1:3;8:2. călăuzit patruzeci de ani în pustie; hainele*Cap. 8:4. nu vi s-au învechit pe voi și încălțămintea nu vi s-a învechit în picior; 6 pâine n-ați mâncat*Exod 16:12. Cap. 8:3.Ps. 78:24,25. și n-ați băut nici vin, nici băutură tare, ca să cunoașteți că Eu sunt Domnul Dumnezeul vostru.’ 7 Ați*Num. 21:23,24,33. Cap. 2:32;3:1. ajuns în locul acesta; Sihon, împăratul Hesbonului, și Og, împăratul Basanului, ne-au ieșit înainte, ca să ne bată, și i-am bătut. 8 Le-am luat țara și am dat-o în*Num. 32:33. Cap. 3:12,13. stăpânire rubeniților, gadiților și la jumătate din seminția manasiților. 9 Să păziți*Cap. 4:6.Ios. 1:7.1 Împ. 2:3. dar cuvintele legământului acestuia și să le împliniți, ca*Ios. 1:7. să izbutiți în tot ce veți face. 10 Astăzi stați înaintea Domnului Dumnezeului vostru voi toți, căpeteniile semințiilor voastre, bătrânii voștri, mai-marii oștirii voastre, toți bărbații din Israel, 11 copiii voștri, nevestele voastre și străinul care este în mijlocul taberei tale, de la cel*Ios. 9:21,23,27. ce-ți taie lemne până la cel ce-ți scoate apă. 12 Stai ca să intri în legământ cu Domnul Dumnezeul tău, în legământul acesta încheiat cu jurământ*Neem. 10:29. și pe care Domnul Dumnezeul tău îl încheie cu tine în ziua aceasta, 13 ca să te facă azi*Cap. 28:9. poporul Lui și El să fie Dumnezeul tău, cum ți-a*Exod 6:7. spus și cum a jurat*Gen. 17:7. părinților tăi Avraam, Isaac și Iacov. 14 Nu numai cu voi închei*Ier. 31:31-33.Evr. 8:7,8. legământul acesta încheiat cu jurământ, 15 ci atât cu cei ce sunt aici printre noi, de față, în ziua aceasta înaintea Domnului Dumnezeului nostru, cât*Fapte 2:39.1 Cor. 7:14. și cu cei ce nu sunt aici printre noi în ziua aceasta.

16 Știți cum am locuit în țara Egiptului și cum am trecut prin mijlocul neamurilor pe care le-ați străbătut. 17 Ați văzut urâciunile și idolii lor, lemnul și piatra, argintul și aurul, care erau la ele. 18 Să nu fie între voi nici bărbat, nici femeie, nici familie și nici seminție a căror inimă*Cap. 11:16. să se abată azi de la Domnul Dumnezeul nostru, ca să se ducă să slujească dumnezeilor neamurilor acelora. Să*Fapte 8:23.Evr. 12:15. nu fie printre voi nicio rădăcină care să aducă otravă și pelin. 19 Nimeni, după ce a auzit cuvintele legământului acestuia încheiat cu jurământ, să nu se laude în inima lui și să zică: ‘Voi avea pace chiar dacă aș urma după pornirile*Num. 15:39.Ecl. 11:9. inimii mele și chiar dacă aș adăuga*Is. 30:1. beția la sete.’ 20 Pe acela*Ezec. 14:7,8. Domnul nu-l va ierta. Ci atunci mânia*Ps. 74:1. și gelozia*Ps. 79:5.Ezec. 23:25. Domnului se vor aprinde împotriva omului aceluia, toate blestemele scrise în cartea aceasta vor veni peste el, și Domnul îi va șterge*Cap. 9:14. numele de sub ceruri. 21 Domnul îl va*Mat. 24:51. despărți, spre pieirea lui, din toate semințiile lui Israel și-i va face după toate blestemele legământului scris în această carte a legii. 22 Vârsta de oameni care vor veni, copiii voștri care se vor naște după voi și străinul care va veni dintr-o țară depărtată, la vederea urgiilor și bolilor cu care va lovi Domnul țara aceasta – 23 la vederea pucioasei*Ps. 107:34.Ier. 17:6.Ţef. 2:9., a sării și arderii întregului ținut, unde nu va fi nici sămânță, nici rod, nici iarbă care să crească, întocmai ca*Gen. 19:24,25.Ier. 20:16. la surparea Sodomei, Gomorei, Admei și Țeboimului, pe care le-a nimicit Domnul în mânia și urgia Lui –, 24 toate neamurile vor zice: ‘Pentru ce*1 Împ. 9:8,9.Ier. 22:8,9. a făcut Domnul astfel țării acesteia? Pentru ce această mânie aprinsă, această mare urgie?’ 25 Și li se va răspunde: ‘Pentru că au părăsit legământul încheiat cu ei de Domnul Dumnezeul părinților lor, când i-a scos din țara Egiptului; 26 pentru că s-au dus să slujească altor dumnezei și să se închine înaintea lor, dumnezei pe care ei nu-i cunoșteau și pe care nu li-i dăduse Domnul. 27 De aceea S-a aprins Domnul de mânie împotriva acestei țări și a adus*Dan. 9:11,13,14. peste ea toate blestemele scrise în cartea aceasta. 28 Domnul i-a smuls*1 Împ. 14:15.2 Cron. 7:20.Ps. 52:5.Prov. 2:22. din țara lor cu mânie, cu urgie, cu o mare iuțime și i-a aruncat într-o altă țară, cum se vede azi.’ 29 Lucrurile ascunse sunt ale Domnului Dumnezeului nostru, iar lucrurile descoperite sunt ale noastre și ale copiilor noștri, pe vecie, ca să împlinim toate cuvintele legii acesteia.
