Te Waiata mō te Māra Wāina Huakore

1 Nā, me waiata e ahau he waiata

nā tāku i aroha nei mō tāku i kaingākau ai,

he mea mō tāna māra wāina:

He māra wāina tā tāku kaingākau

i tētahi pukepuke mōmona.

2 Nā, taiepatia ana e ia, kohikohia ana e ia ngā kōhatu o reira,

whakatōkia ana e ia ki te wāina pai rawa;

hangā ana e ia he pourewa ki waenganui,

keria ana anō e ia he poka wāina ki reira;

ā, ka tatari ia kia whai karepe,

nā, ka hua mai he karepe māori.

3 Nā, e te hunga e noho nei i Hiruhārama,

me ngā tāngata o Hūrā,

whakaritea tā māua whakawā

ko tāku māra wāina.

4 Ko te aha ake anō rā i āhei kia mahia ki tāku māra,

kīhai i mahia e ahau ki reira?

He aha rā, i ahau i tatari ai kia hua mai he karepe,

i puta kē mai ai he karepe māori?

5 Nā ināianei, māku e whakaatu ki a koutou

tāku e mea ai ki tāku māra wāina.

Ka tangohia atu e ahau tōna pā whakaruru hau,

ā, ka pau ia te kai;

ka tukitukia hoki e ahau tōna taiepa,

ā, ka takatakahia.

6 Ā, ka meinga e ahau kia ururua;

e kore e tapatapahia, e kore e ngakia,

engari, ka huaranga ake te tātarāmoa me te tūmatakuru;

ka ako atu hoki ahau ki ngā kapua

kia kaua te ua e uaina ki reira.

7 Ko te māra wāina hoki a Ihowā o ngā mano,

ko te whare o Īharaira,

ā, ko ngā tāngata o Hūrā

tāna mea āhuareka i whakatō ai;

ka tatari ia ki te whakawā, nā, ko te tūkino;

ki te tika, nā, he auē.

8 Auē te mate mō te hunga e hono ana i te whare ki te whare,

e whakapiri nei i te māra ki te māra,

ā, kore noa iho he wāhi,

ā, ka meinga koutou kia noho, ko koutou anake,

i waenganui i te whenua!

9 Ko tā Ihowā o ngā mano tēnei i hamumu ai ki ōku taringa:

"He pono, he tini ngā whare ka mokemoke,

tōna nunui, tōna ātaahua, ka noho tahanga kau.

10 Nō te mea kotahi tekau ngā eka o te māra wāina,

ka maea ake kotahi tonu te pāti;

i kī te homa i te purapura, ka maea ake kotahi te epa."

11 Auē te mate mō te hunga e maranga wawe ana i te ata

ki te whai i te wai kaha;

e kawe ana i te roa o te pō,

nāwai ā, ka tahuna e te wāina,

12 ko te hāpa me te hātere,

ko te timipera me te pūtōrino, ko te wāina,

kei ā rātou hākari ēnā, heoi, kāhore ā rātou mahara ki te mahi a Ihowā,

kāhore hoki he whakaaro ki te mahi a ōna ringa!

13 Koia i riro ai tōku iwi i te pārau, he kore mātauranga;

ko ō rātou tāngata ingoa nui hoki kua hemo i te kai,

ā, ko tō rātou mano tini kua pakapaka rawa i te matewai.

14 Nā reira te rēinga i whakanui ai i tōna hiahia,

i whewhera noa atu ai i tōna māngai;

ā, heke atu ana ki reira tō rātou korōria,

ō rātou mano tini, tō rātou whakahī,

me te tangata e whakamanamana ana i roto i a rātou.

15 Ka whakapikoa anō hoki te tangata ware,

ā, ka whakaititia te tangata nui,

ka whakahokia iho hoki ngā kanohi o te hunga whakakake.

16 Otiia ka whakanekehia ake a Ihowā o ngā mano i runga i te whakawā,

ka whakatapua anō te Atua, te Mea Tapu, i runga i te tika.

17 Ko reira ngā reme kai ai, ānō kei tō rātou wāhi,

ā, ka kainga e ngā mea haere noa ngā wāhi kua ururuatia o te hunga tetere.

18 Auē te mate mō te hunga e kūmea ana e rātou te hē ki ngā aho o te horihori,

te hara hoki me te mea ki te taura o te kāta;

19 e mea nei, "Kia hihiko ia,

kia hohoro tāna mahi,

kia kite ai mātou;

kia whakatata mai hoki,

kia tae mai te whakaaro o te Mea Tapu o Īharaira,

kia mōhio ai mātou!"

20 Auē te mate mō te hunga e mea nei ki te kino, he pai,

ki te pai hoki, he kino;

e mea nei i te pōuri hei mārama,

i te mārama hoki hei pōuri;

e mea nei i te kawa hei reka,

i te reka hei kawa!

21 Auē te mate mō te hunga he nui nei ō rātou whakaaro ki tā rātou titiro,

e mahara ana hoki he hunga mōhio rātou!

22 Auē te mate mō te hunga kaha ki te inu wāina,

he hunga uaua anō ki te whakaranu i te wai kaha;

23 e whakatika nei i tā te tangata hē, he whakaaro ki te utu;

e tango atu nei i te tika o te tangata tika.

24 Mō reira ka rite ki te kainga a te arero o te ahi i te kakau wīti,

ki te hinganga o te otaota maroke ki roto ki te mura;

mō rātou i whakakāhore ki te Ture a Ihowā o ngā mano,

i whakahāwea anō hoki ki te kupu a te Mea Tapu o Īharaira.

25 Nā reira te riri o Ihowā i mura ai ki tāna iwi,

ā, kua torona e ia tōna ringa ki te whawhai ki a rātou, ā, patua iho rātou e ia;

i ngāueue ngā maunga,

ā, ko ō rātou tinana mate me te mea he paru

i waenganui o ngā huarahi.

Nā, ahakoa tēnei katoa, kāhore tōna riri i te tahuri atu,

mārō tonu tōna ringa.

26 Ka whakaarahia anō hoki e ia he kara ki ngā iwi i tawhiti;

ka whiowhio anō ki a rātou ki te pito o te whenua.

Nanā, ka hohoro, ka tere tonu tā rātou haere mai!

27 E kore tētahi o rātou e ngenge, e kore e tapepa te waewae;

e kore tētahi e parangia, e kore e moe;

e kore te whītiki o ō rātou hope e mawheto,

e kore anō te here o ō rātou hū e motu;

28 ko ā rātou pere, koi tonu,

he piko katoa ā rātou kōpere;

ko ngā pāua o ō rātou hōiho ka kīia he matā,

ā, ko ō rātou wīra he āwhiowhio.

29 Ko tā rātou hāmama, koia anō kei tā te raiona,

ka hāmama rātou ānō he kūao raiona;

āe rā, ka ngengere rātou, ka hopukina tā rātou tūpāpaku,

kāwhakina tonutia atu, kāhore hoki he tangata hei whakaora.

30 Nā, ka hāmama rātou ki a rātou i taua rā,

me te mea ko te moana e haruru ana;

ā, ki te titiro tētahi ki te whenua –

nanā, he pōuri me te tuatea,

ā, kua pōuri te mārama i ōna kapua.

1 Let me sing for my wellbeloved a song of my beloved touching his vineyard. My wellbeloved had a vineyard in a very fruitful hill: 2 and he digged it, and gathered out the stones thereof, and planted it with the choicest vine, and built a tower in the midst of it, and also hewed out a winepress therein: and he looked that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes.

3 And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah, judge, I pray you, betwixt me and my vineyard. 4 What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it? wherefore, when I looked that it should bring forth grapes, brought it forth wild grapes? 5 And now I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will take away the hedge thereof, and it shall be eaten up; I will break down the wall thereof, and it shall be trodden down: 6 and I will lay it waste; it shall not be pruned nor hoed; but there shall come up briers and thorns: I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it. 7 For the vineyard of Jehovah of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant: and he looked for justice, but, behold, oppression; for righteousness, but, behold, a cry.

8 Woe unto them that join house to house, that lay field to field, till there be no room, and ye be made to dwell alone in the midst of the land! 9 In mine ears saith Jehovah of hosts, Of a truth many houses shall be desolate, even great and fair, without inhabitant. 10 For ten acres of vineyard shall yield one bath, and a homer of seed shall yield but an ephah. 11 Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that tarry late into the night, till wine inflame them! 12 And the harp and the lute, the tabret and the pipe, and wine, are in their feasts; but they regard not the work of Jehovah, neither have they considered the operation of his hands.

13 Therefore my people are gone into captivity for lack of knowledge; and their honorable men are famished, and their multitude are parched with thirst. 14 Therefore Sheol hath enlarged its desire, and opened its mouth without measure; and their glory, and their multitude, and their pomp, and he that rejoiceth among them, descend into it. 15 And the mean man is bowed down, and the great man is humbled, and the eyes of the lofty are humbled: 16 but Jehovah of hosts is exalted in justice, and God the Holy One is sanctified in righteousness. 17 Then shall the lambs feed as in their pasture, and the waste places of the fat ones shall wanderers eat.

18 Woe unto them that draw iniquity with cords of falsehood, and sin as it were with a cart rope; 19 that say, Let him make speed, let him hasten his work, that we may see it; and let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel draw nigh and come, that we may know it! 20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! 21 Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight! 22 Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink; 23 that justify the wicked for a bribe, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!

24 Therefore as the tongue of fire devoureth the stubble, and as the dry grass sinketh down in the flame, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust; because they have rejected the law of Jehovah of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel. 25 Therefore is the anger of Jehovah kindled against his people, and he hath stretched forth his hand against them, and hath smitten them; and the mountains tremble, and their dead bodies are as refuse in the midst of the streets. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

26 And he will lift up an ensign to the nations from far, and will hiss for them from the end of the earth; and, behold, they shall come with speed swiftly. 27 None shall be weary nor stumble among them; none shall slumber nor sleep; neither shall the girdle of their loins be loosed, nor the latchet of their shoes be broken: 28 whose arrows are sharp, and all their bows bent; their horses’ hoofs shall be accounted as flint, and their wheels as a whirlwind: 29 their roaring shall be like a lioness, they shall roar like young lions; yea, they shall roar, and lay hold of the prey, and carry it away safe, and there shall be none to deliver. 30 And they shall roar against them in that day like the roaring of the sea: and if one look unto the land, behold, darkness and distress; and the light is darkened in the clouds thereof.
