1 Nanā, kīhai i mutua te ringa o Ihowā, tē tau ai te whakaora;

3 Kua poke hoki ō koutou ringa i te toto,

ō koutou maihao i te hē;

ko ō koutou ngutu kua kōrero teka,

ko ō koutou arero kei te whakapuaki i te whanokē.

4 Kāhore he karanga ki te tika,

kāhore he tohe ki te pono;

ko te horihori tō rātou okiokinga, e kōrero teka ana rātou;

ko tō rātou hapū he nanakia, whānau ake he kino.

5 E paoa ana e rātou ngā hua o te neke,

e hangā ana e rātou te whare pūngāwerewere.

Ko te tangata e kai ana i ā rātou hua ka mate,

ā, ki te kōpēngia tētahi, ka puta he waipera.

6 E kore ō rātou whare pūngāwerewere e tau hei kākahu,

e kore anō rātou e whai hīpoki i ā rātou mahi.

Ko ā rātou mahi he mahi nā te kino,

he mahi nanakia kei ō rātou ringa.

7 E rere ana ō rātou waewae i te kino,

hohoro tonu hoki rātou ki te whakaheke i te toto harakore.

Ko ō rātou whakaaro he whakaaro ki te kino,

he whakamōtī, he wāwāhi kei ō rātou ara.

8 Kāhore ō rātou mātauranga ki te ara o te rangimārie,

kāhore hoki he whakawā i ō rātou ara.

Ko ō rātou huarahi, whakakōpikopikoa ake e rātou;

ko te hunga katoa e haere ana nā reira,

e kore e mōhio ki te rangimārie.

9 Nā reira matara noa atu te whakawā i a tātou,

tē mau tātou i te tika.

10 E whāwhā ana tātou ki te taiepa ānō he matapō,

e tūtuki ana ō tātou waewae i te poutūmārōtanga me te mea i te ahiahi;

he rite tātou ki te tūpāpaku i roto i ngā tāngata pakari.

11 Kei te ngengere tātou katoa ānō he pea;

ko tō tātou rite kei te kūkupa e tumutumu tonu ana.

12 Kua nui hoki ō mātou poka kē i tōu aroaro,

13 he poka kē, he whakakāhore ki a Ihowā,

he peka atu i te whai i tō mātou Atua,

he whanokē ngā kōrero, he whakakeke;

kua hapū, kua puaki i te ngākau he kupu teka.

14 Kua tahuri atu nei ki muri te whakawā,

ko te tika tū mai ana i tawhiti;

kua hinga hoki te pono i te waharoa,

ā, kāhore he tomokanga mō te tika.

15 Āe rā, kua kore te pono;

ā, ko te tangata e whakarere ana i te kino

ka waiho hei taonga pārau.

Nā, ka kite a Ihowā, ka kino ki tāna titiro,

nō te mea kāhore he whakawā.

16 Nā, titiro rawa mai ia, kāhore he tangata,

mīharo ana ia nō te mea kāhore he kaiwawao;

nā, kei tōna ringa he whakaora mōna;

ko tōna tika, nā tērā ia i tautoko ake.

17 I kākahuria hoki e ia te tika hei pukupuku,

ko te whakaora hei pōtae ki tōna māhunga;

kākahuria ana e ia ngā kākahu o te rapu utu hei kākahu,

ropia mai ana te hae hei koroka.

18 Ko tāna utu ka rite ki ā rātou mahi,

he riri ki ōna hoa whawhai,

he utu ki ōna hoariri;

ki ngā motu hoki ka hōmai e ia he utu.

19 Nā, ka wehingia te ingoa o Ihowā i te uru,

tōna korōria i te rāwhiti.

Ka haere mai hoki ia ānō he awa e tāheke ana,

e āia ana e te manawa o Ihowā.

20 "Ā, ka haere mai te kaihoko ki Hiona,

ki te hunga o Hākopa e tahuri atu ana i te poka kē,"

e ai tā Ihowā.

21 "Ko ahau nei, ko tāku kawenata tēnei ki a rātou," e ai tā Ihowā. "Ko tōku wairua i a koe nā, me āku kupu i hoatu e ahau ki tōu māngai, e kore e neke atu i tōu māngai, i te māngai o ōu uri, i te māngai anō o ngā uri o ōu uri," e ai tā Ihowā, "āianei ā ake tonu atu."

1 Behold, Jehovah’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: 2 but your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, so that he will not hear. 3 For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue muttereth wickedness. 4 None sueth in righteousness, and none pleadeth in truth: they trust in vanity, and speak lies; they conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity. 5 They hatch adders’ eggs, and weave the spider’s web: he that eateth of their eggs dieth; and that which is crushed breaketh out into a viper. 6 Their webs shall not become garments, neither shall they cover themselves with their works: their works are works of iniquity, and the act of violence is in their hands. 7 Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood: their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; desolation and destruction are in their paths. 8 The way of peace they know not; and there is no justice in their goings: they have made them crooked paths; whosoever goeth therein doth not know peace.

9 Therefore is justice far from us, neither doth righteousness overtake us: we look for light, but, behold, darkness; for brightness, but we walk in obscurity. 10 We grope for the wall like the blind; yea, we grope as they that have no eyes: we stumble at noonday as in the twilight; among them that are lusty we are as dead men. 11 We roar all like bears, and moan sore like doves: we look for justice, but there is none; for salvation, but it is far off from us. 12 For our transgressions are multiplied before thee, and our sins testify against us; for our transgressions are with us, and as for our iniquities, we know them: 13 transgressing and denying Jehovah, and turning away from following our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood. 14 And justice is turned away backward, and righteousness standeth afar off; for truth is fallen in the street, and uprightness cannot enter. 15 Yea, truth is lacking; and he that departeth from evil maketh himself a prey.

And Jehovah saw it, and it displeased him that there was no justice. 16 And he saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor: therefore his own arm brought salvation unto him; and his righteousness, it upheld him. 17 And he put on righteousness as a breastplate, and a helmet of salvation upon his head; and he put on garments of vengeance for clothing, and was clad with zeal as a mantle. 18 According to their deeds, accordingly he will repay, wrath to his adversaries, recompense to his enemies; to the islands he will repay recompense. 19 So shall they fear the name of Jehovah from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun; for he will come as a rushing stream, which the breath of Jehovah driveth. 20 And a Redeemer will come to Zion, and unto them that turn from transgression in Jacob, saith Jehovah. 21 And as for me, this is my covenant with them, saith Jehovah: my Spirit that is upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed’s seed, saith Jehovah, from henceforth and for ever.
