1 And Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said, 2 If a word were essayed to thee, wouldest thou be grieved? But who can refrain from speaking? 3 Behold, thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak hands; 4 Thy words have upholden him that was stumbling, and thou hast braced up the bending knees: 5 But now it is come upon thee, and thou grievest; it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled. 6 Hath not thy piety been thy confidence, and the perfection of thy ways thy hope?

7 Remember, I pray thee, who that was innocent has perished? and where were the upright cut off? 8 Even as I have seen, they that plough iniquity and sow mischief, reap the same. 9 By the breath of +God*GodHebrew: Eloah they perish, and by the blast of his nostrils are they consumed. 10 The roar of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, and the teeth of the young lions, are broken; 11 The old lion perisheth for lack of prey, and the whelps of the lioness are scattered.

12 Now to me a word was secretly brought, and mine ear received a whisper thereof. 13 In thoughts from visions of the night, when deep sleep falleth on men: — 14 Fear came on me, and trembling, and made all my bones to shake; 15 And a spirit passed before my face — the hair of my flesh stood up — 16 It stood still; I could not discern the appearance thereof: a form was before mine eyes; I heard a slight murmur and a voice: 17 Shall mortal man be more just than +God*GodHebrew: Eloah Shall a man be purer than his Maker? 18 Lo, he trusteth not his servants, and his angels he chargeth with folly: 19 How much more them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, who are crushed as the moth! 20 From morning to evening are they smitten: without any heeding it, they perish for ever. 21 Is not their tent-cord torn away in them? they die, and without wisdom.

1 Elifaz din Teman a luat cuvântul și a zis:

2 „Dacă vom îndrăzni să-ți vorbim, te vei supăra?

Dar cine ar putea să tacă?

3 De multe ori tu ai învățat pe alții

și ai întărit mâinile*Is. 35:3. slăbite.

4 Cuvintele tale au ridicat pe cei ce se clătinau

și ai întărit genunchii*Is. 35:3. care se îndoiau.

5 Și acum, când este vorba de tine, ești slab!

Acum, când ești atins tu, te tulburi!

Nu este frica*Cap. 1:1. ta de Dumnezeu sprijinul tău?

6 Nădejdea*Prov. 3:26. ta nu-i neprihănirea ta?

7 Adu-ți aminte, te rog! Care nevinovat*Ps. 37:25. a pierit?

Care oameni neprihăniți au fost nimiciți?

8 După câte am văzut eu, numai cei ce ară*Ps. 7:17.Prov. 22:8.Osea 10:13.Gal. 6:7,8. fărădelegea

și seamănă nelegiuirea îi seceră roadele!

9 Aceia pier prin suflarea lui Dumnezeu,

nimiciți de vântul mâniei Lui.

10 Mugetul leilor încetează,

dinții*Ps. 58:6. puilor de lei sunt zdrobiți!

11 Leul*Ps. 34:10. bătrân piere din lipsă de pradă

și puii leoaicei se risipesc.

12 Un cuvânt s-a furișat până la mine,

și urechea mea i-a prins sunetele ușoare.

13 În clipa când*Cap. 33:15. vedeniile de noapte frământă gândul,

când oamenii sunt cufundați într-un somn adânc,

14 m-a apucat groaza*Hab. 3:16. și spaima,

și toate oasele mi-au tremurat.

15 Un duh a trecut pe lângă mine…

Tot părul mi s-a zbârlit ca ariciul…

16 Un chip cu o înfățișare necunoscută era înaintea ochilor mei.

Și am auzit un glas care șoptea încetișor:

17 ‘Fi-va omul*Cap. 9:2. fără vină înaintea lui Dumnezeu?

Fi-va el curat înaintea Celui ce l-a făcut?’

18 Dacă n-are încredere Dumnezeu*Cap. 15:15;25:5.2 Pet. 2:4. nici în slujitorii Săi,

dacă găsește El greșeli chiar la îngerii Săi,

19 cu cât*Cap. 15:16. mai mult la cei ce locuiesc în case*2 Cor. 4:7;5:1. de lut,

care își trag obârșia din țărână

și pot fi zdrobiți ca un vierme!

20 De dimineață până seara sunt*Ps. 90:5,6. zdrobiți,

pier pentru totdeauna și nimeni nu ține seama de ei.

21 Li se*Ps. 39:11;49:14. taie firul vieții,

mor și tot n-au căpătat înțelepciunea!*Cap. 36:12.
