1 And Zophar the Naamathite answered and said, 2 Therefore do my thoughts give me an answer, and for this is my haste within me. 3 I hear a reproof putting me to shame; and my spirit answereth me by mine understanding. 4 Knowest thou not this, that of old, since man was placed upon earth, 5 The exultation of the wicked is short, and the joy of the ungodly man but for a moment? 6 Though his height mount up to the heavens, and his head reach unto the clouds, 7 Like his own dung doth he perish for ever; they which have seen him shall say, Where is he? 8 He flieth away as a dream, and is not found; and is chased away as a vision of the night. 9 The eye which saw him shall see him not again; and his place beholdeth him no more.

10 His children shall seek the favour of the poor, and his hands restore his wealth. 11 His bones were full of his youthful strength; but it shall lie down with him in the dust. 12 Though wickedness be sweet in his mouth and he hide it under his tongue, 13 Though he spare it, and forsake it not, but keep it within his mouth, 14 His food is turned in his bowels; it is the gall of asps within him. 15 He hath swallowed down riches, but he shall vomit them up again: ·God*GodHebrew: El shall cast them out of his belly. 16 He shall suck the poison of asps; the viper’s tongue shall kill him. 17 He shall not see streams, rivers, brooks of honey and butter. 18 That which he laboured for shall he restore, and not swallow down; its restitution shall be according to the value, and he shall not rejoice therein. 19 For he hath oppressed, hath forsaken the poor; he hath violently taken away a house that he did not build. 20 Because he knew no rest in his craving, he shall save nought of what he most desired. 21 Nothing escaped his greediness; therefore his prosperity shall not endure. 22 In the fulness of his sufficiency he shall be in straits; every hand of the wretched shall come upon him.

23 It shall be that, to fill his belly, he will cast his fierce anger upon him, and will rain it upon him into his flesh. 24 If he have fled from the iron weapon, the bow of brass shall strike him through. 25 He draweth it forth; it cometh out of his body, and the glittering point out of his gall: terrors are upon him. 26 All darkness is laid up for his treasures: a fire not blown shall devour him; it shall feed upon what is left in his tent. 27 The heavens shall reveal his iniquity, and the earth shall rise up against him. 28 The increase of his house shall depart, flowing away in the day of his anger. 29 This is the portion of the wicked man from God*GodHebrew: Elohim and the heritage appointed to him by ·God*GodHebrew: El.

2 „Gândurile mele mă silesc să răspund,

și frământarea mea nu-mi dă pace.

3 Am auzit mustrări care mă umplu de rușine,

și, din adâncul minții mele, duhul mă face să răspund.

4 Nu știi tu

că de mult de tot,

de când a fost așezat omul pe pământ,

5 biruința celor răi a fost scurtă*Ps. 37:35,36.

și bucuria nelegiuitului, numai de o clipă?

6 Chiar dacă s-ar înălța*Is. 14:13,14.Obad. 3,4. până la ceruri

și capul i-ar ajunge până la nori,

7 va pieri pentru totdeauna, ca*Ps. 83:10. murdăria lui,

și cei ce-l vedeau vor zice: ‘Unde este?’

8 Va zbura ca*Ps. 73:20;90:5. un vis și nu-l vor mai găsi;

va pieri ca o vedenie de noapte.

9 Ochiul*Cap. 7:8,10;8:18.Ps. 37:36;103:16. care-l privea nu-l va mai privi,

locul în care locuia nu-l va mai zări.

10 Peste fiii lui vor năvăli cei săraci,

și mâinile lui*Vers. 18. vor da înapoi ce a răpit cu sila.

11 Oasele lui, pline de*Cap. 13:26.Ps. 25:7. vlaga tinereții,

își vor avea culcușul*Cap. 21:26. cu el în țărână.

12 Dulce era răul în gura lui.

Îl ascundea sub limbă,

13 îl mesteca întruna și nu-l lăsa;

îl ținea în cerul gurii,

14 dar hrana lui se va preface în măruntaiele lui,

va ajunge în trupul lui o otravă de aspidă.

15 Bogățiile înghițite le va vărsa,

Dumnezeu le va scoate din pântecele lui.

16 Otravă de aspidă a supt,

și de aceea limba năpârcii îl va ucide.

17 Nu-și va mai plimba privirile peste pâraiele*Ps. 36:9.Ier. 17:6.

și râurile de miere și de lapte,

18 va da înapoi*Vers. 10,15. ce a câștigat

și nu va mai trage folos din câștig;

va da înapoi tot ce a luat

și nu se va mai bucura de el,

19 căci a asuprit pe săraci și i-a lăsat să piară,

a dărâmat case și nu le-a zidit la loc.

20 Lăcomia lui n-a cunoscut*Ecl. 5:13,14. margini,

dar nu va scăpa ce are mai scump.

21 Nimic nu scapă de lăcomia lui,

dar bunăstarea lui nu va ține.

22 În mijlocul belșugului va fi în nevoie;

mâna tuturor ticăloșilor se va ridica asupra lui.

23 Și iată, ca să-i umple pântecele,

Dumnezeu va trimite peste el focul mâniei Lui

și-l va sătura*Num. 11:33.Ps. 78:30,31. cu o ploaie de săgeți.

24 Dacă va scăpa*Is. 24:18.Ier. 48:43.Amos 5:19. de armele de fier,

îl va străpunge arcul de aramă.

25 Își smulge din trup săgeata, care scânteiază*Cap. 16:13. la ieșirea din fierea lui,

și îl apucă spaimele*Cap. 18:11. morții.

26 Toate nenorocirile sunt păstrate pentru comorile lui;

va fi mistuit de un foc*Ps. 21:9. pe care nu-l va aprinde omul,

și ce va mai rămâne în cortul lui va fi ars de foc.

27 Cerurile îi vor dezveli fărădelegea,

și pământul se va ridica împotriva lui.

28 Veniturile casei lui se vor pierde,

vor pieri în ziua mâniei lui Dumnezeu.

29 Aceasta*Cap. 27:13;31:2,3. este soarta pe care o păstrează Dumnezeu celui rău,

aceasta este moștenirea pe care i-o hotărăște Dumnezeu."
